'Video Game Journalism is something of a frowned upon set of work. People are only too ready to criticize pieces written only for hits, but it doesn't stop thousands of people flocking to your website for said pieces. It's an odd situation to work in, things that you're proud of very rarely get the hits they deserve.
Striking the balance between a level of professionalism and a level of pandering is difficult to do and I would say accounts for the reason thousands of blogs fall into obscurity every single month.
The past fortnight or so has offered an incredibly unique opportunity to examine ourselves as a collective. The PSN downtime has been covered by small blogs, respected sites and major news outlets, making comparison between each group incredibly easy. What we've discovered isn't shocking, more common sense, but it is interesting nonetheless.
Besides, an Expert told us. So, it's all true.'
Over the last 25 years, there has been a fair few South Park games, and here GameSpew has ranked them all from best to worst.
We are going to see a lot of crap South Park products since they sold out to paramount years ago. It's their IP they can sell out, of course; it just means the quality of their show has tanked and other products as well. Nevertheless, they put on excellent musicals, but those haven't been sold to a mega corporation.
Game Rant chats with the creator of No More Heroes about who he would like to see play the role of Travis Touchdown in a live-action adaptation.
Actually Ryan Gosling makes a ton of sense.
Edit: If this can be done in a Scott Pilgrim movie kind of way that would be dope.
The Opening Levels that hooked gamers from the outset.
I've always thought that video game 'journalism' has been terrible but since the PSN went down we've seen the true extent of the desperate clamoring for attention.
As each vulture swooped down for a peck, re-writing the same news in a slightly different fashion, I couldn't help but wonder about the savagery of human nature and why it is that we, as a species, find such pleasure in the suffering of others.
The author makes a good point about 'experts' here. If websites were held accountable for their dubious sources we would see a lot less 'experts' voicing their opinions as fact.
I've never actually said this about anything I found n N4G, but that was... a very well-written article. I'm glad I took the time to read it.
It has been one joke after another with the gaming media. This whole PSN fiasco just bought it to a whole new level. Nothing but flamebait and trolling.
thank you
all the good articles get hardly any attention while all the ones with shockin headlines do. I remember this psn related article with the most hits with less than a 3 sentences.
All these comments pretty much some up the state of gaming journalism, or just journalism in general.
Two things was really apparent to me thru this whole fiasco, when someone is down, everyone is queuing up to kick them. Secondly, one word; "Exaggeration".
