Why SEGA should stick with PlatinumGames

SEGAbits: "The closure of Clover Studio several years back was a sad day for the gaming industry, not only because they had just developed a multiple Game of the Year award winner (the beautiful Okami) but also because it was such a shame to see the developer of some of Capcom’s most interesting and innovative content getting the axe. It was a big dose of reality: a reminder that originality and innovation doesn’t always pay off (and SEGA knows that probably better than anybody) in an industry that’s rapidly becoming more and more hit-driven and sequel-based."

I completely agree. PLatinum are creative geniuses, and Sega really needs them. Go buy it damn it!

disturbing_flame4761d ago

SEGA are doing great moves. It's a win win situation between them and Platinum.

RememberThe3574761d ago

SEGA needs to get better as selling their games. It's not like Platinums games are bad but they sell poorly.

The only great games I can think of that SEGA has put out recently are Platinum games.

Persistantthug4761d ago

I mean, why would they when I'm sure their Capcom situation is still fresh in their minds.

Them leaving Capcom and opening up their own studio instead of staying there shows they have little intention of being under anyone.

Ahasverus4761d ago

I understand your point but I'm sure they will handle the contract setting in diferent way now, they should own their current IPs and give Sega only the new ones and of course make it a long term agreement

ChickeyCantor4761d ago

i want them to make a sonic game...

showtimefolks4761d ago

they should keep em or try their best to keep this partnership

ZombieAssassin4761d ago

It would be wise for SEGA to try and purchase PG or keep getting them to sign deals to work exclusively with SEGA. They are prolly the most talented studio working for SEGA right now and GIVE ME BAYONETTA 2!!!

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake7d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

OtterX6d ago

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils7d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken22d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake22d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing22d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol
