IGN: Mass Effect 2: Arrival Review

In a nutshell, Arrival begins as a rescue mission that you perform as a favor for your old friend Admiral Hackett. The woman you need to find, Dr. Amanda Kenson, has located a Reaper artifact with proof of their imminent invasion...

After the great Lair of the Shadow Broker I was hoping for a higher score for The Arrival, but every little bit of this franchise is amazing. So definite buy.

Bioware seem to be getting worse, not better. I thought the original Mass Effect was better than ME2, and Dragon Age was also better than the sequel Now they release poor dlc.

I have no real hope in Mass Effect 3, I think EA have sucked the life out of the company.

I don't think Arrival is an example of Bioware getting worse. I think it is simply a case of DLC not being the proper medium for a game such as Mass Effect. There are so many limitations to the DLC medium, such as cost, time and filesize.

Unfortunately Arrival just shows these limitations too well. There is no interaction with any of your crew (probably too expensive to get the voice actors in). It is also relatively short and there isn't much in the way of RPG in this DLC.

I still got some enjoyment out of it and I wouldn't like to be in a position where I didn't play it. However you can't help but feel that Arrival should have been a full expansion.

"I wouldn't like to be in a position where I didn't play it. However you can't help but feel that Arrival should have been a full expansion."

Pretty much this. Being a newcomer and addict to ME2 I HAD to have Arrival, but at the same time I would have happily and willingly paid 9.99 for a Shadow Broker quality DLC.

I was actually hoping for an Aria DLC. Anyone else think she should've been a crew member?

Naaa it would have broken her character she is the queen bitch of omega, taking her out of omega and following shepards orders would just ruin the character.

Arrival and Kasumi's Stolen Memory were only two pieces of DLC i hadn't played
so i thought i'd use up some remaining MS points and download one. I chose Arrival because it has more achievements and is the final piece of DLC for the game!
I played up to where you have to protect Object Rho but after killing the 4th (i think) wave a glitch occurred where the next one wouldn't come
therefor not allowing me to gain the achievement for surviving all the waves
now frustrated i died and continued through the game for a bit but kept encountering stupid bugs and glitches!! D:
The whole piece of DLC is very buggy, unpolished (nowhere near the standard/quality of the main game or other DLC) and very disappointing
my complaints not about the length but about the poor quality of the DLC
oh well :(
Guess i'll have to wait a year or so for Mass Effect 3 to get my fix

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
