CryENGINE 3 Key Rendering Features

Crytek's Principal R&D Graphics Engineer, Tiago Sousa, takes us through a highly detailed and informative presentation on CryENGINE 3 and it's key rendering technologies.

Pandamobile4771d ago

Crysis 2 PC Low settings = console settings. Interesting.

NRG4771d ago

I like how you're getting disagrees when a Crytek official says it right there in the link.

Hoje03084771d ago

I think people disagreed with the fact that he felt the need to get out his soapbox to state something that everyone who took the time to read the article already knew. We get it, consoles aren't as impressive as PC hardware. No need to be a smug prick about it.

ultramoot4771d ago

Looks like Crytek is trying too hard to sell their engine to other devs.

Pandamobile4771d ago

Yeah, that's kind of the point of making a middleware engine.

Hazmat134771d ago

i still wish for consoles its came in a 2 disc set 1 game cd and 1 sandbox editor cd. that would be cool.

Pandamobile4771d ago

The sandbox editor is like 20 MB. Why would that need to come on another disk?

Hazmat134771d ago

man you are always a buzz kill, im just sayin.

Pandamobile4771d ago

Forgive me for being realistic.

y0haN4770d ago

Why does it kill your buzz that you'd be wasting a disc instead of getting all the features on a single one?

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

Game is fun but grafx were disappointing. I forgave the sub HD resolution because I thought it would be a sandbox type game. But it is as linear as Killzone, Halo and Resistance with much less going on on screen. Still I guess for a first try it shapes up pretty well. It's not "OMG TEH GRAFX" but it's far from ugly and is the best looking game on at least one console. Once they do more optimizing on the engine it'll be a force to be reckon with on any platform.

Kon4771d ago

Nope, it is not linear as other FPS. It has much, much more open space than Killzone, Halo, etc. Specially when you're out in the open

palaeomerus4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

Umm...sword base, the area around it, and the two areas attached to it seemed pretty $#@#ing big and continuous to me.

a_bro4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

blame it on ram limitations on consoles. just to do crysis 1 alone on consoles, you would need more than just 512mb of ram to pull it off. more like around 1.5gb ram.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4771d ago

Cant really use that excuse when you look at Uncharted. Even MGS4 was fairly open and it ran at full HD and 30-60 fps. But I'm optimistic still. Cant wait to see the engine evolve.

palaeomerus4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

Crysis is a bit beyond Uncharted 2 graphically, much less Uncharted, which is why the game can't run AT ALL on the PS3 or 360 without some serious dumbing down. One of the reasons for this is that Crysis has a memory requirement that neither console can meet.

All your silly reference to Uncharted proves is that you don't know what the hell you are babbling about.

Uncharted was designed to run on the PS3 and is not really even close to doing graphically or performance wise what Crysis does on a PC. Why would you even think the two are somehow equivalent?

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4771d ago

I'm not talking about the PC version of Crysis 2, I'm talking about the ps3 version. I understand that the console version shouldnt run or look as good as the pc version but it should run and look as good as any of ps3's top class games, the way Crytek were hyping it. Please read carefully next time.

a_bro4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

Uncharted, linear game

Crysis 1, open world game

as much as I love uncharted 1 and 2, especially since they are the best games i've ever played, and how balanced the story was to the gunplay and action, you have to face the facts here.

Crysis 1 was such an open world game, that when you returned to a site that you demolished, it stays demolished.

whats funny about crysis 1 was when you start playing the game, and continued playing it, its ram usage would increase as you traverse the island.

its the main reason why crysis 1 is not possible on current gen consoles. Next gen consoles (PS4/720) most likely.

it is the main reason why Crytek decided to make a game that was somewhat linear here with crysis 2. they wanted to bring the franchise to consoles, so they had no choice but to sacrifice one of the things that made crysis unique, its open world gameplay.

and dont compare and say that GTAIV/RDR does it, because it doesnt. as soon as you leave a certain part of those open worlds, they instantly refresh as if nothing has happened.

On a side note though, i do agree for this game being sub-hd and have inconsistent framerates here and there though, theres no excuse for it. i believe that they didnt push the cell processor to it fullest here, although they obviously pushed the RSX, but theres only so much you can do there especially since its based on the geforce 7000 series. the cell processor can also do gpu functions there as well. they could of dumped a bunch of stuff there than just pushing only the rsx.

MGS4 did NOT run in "Full" HD...lol

nightmarex1214771d ago

Well no shit thanks mr.obvious, it was okay back then b/c not many games look that good. But today world their a lot of games that looks good and the standards are up. It's all about timing if crysis 2 came out during the beginning of the console everybody be like holy fuck its amazing and stuff like that but when you see like uncharted 3 water effects and fire your like holy shit with hd and all that jazz then yeah you better hold to those standards.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4771d ago

Well it's native rez was 1024x768 which is still higher than Crysis on ps3 plus it can be upscaled to 1080p.

palaeomerus4771d ago

What the hell does upscaling have to do with anything?

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4771d ago

*sighs*

My point was that Crysis is a bit disappointing on ps3 (grafx wise) considering other games. It's sub HD with poor textures. And there really is no excuse for that seeing as how it's not really open and not alot ever happens on screen, so it shouldnt be all that taxing. And to your point above, Crysis being big is irrelevant if youre still restricted to a small portion of the levels.

Crytek Gives Brief Update on New Crysis Game; Studio Has a "Great Team" Working on It

Crytek gives an update on their new Crysis game, confirming that it's still in development, with more to share down the road.

DefenderOfDoom2136d ago

Actually would love a new Crysis campaign.

P_Bomb136d ago

Ditto. Ran through them again last year. I’ll grab the new one.

Crazyglues135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

Yeah they really messed up by not adding the Multi-player to the Crysis Triogly because while the campaign was fun I really loved the Multi-player and couldn't wait to see what it was going to be like on current gen.

They could have dropped new maps and DLC and fans would have bought it up... -But they dropped the ball and did just the Campaign's with no new content or story, which was just crazy.

Anyway still hoping Crysis 4 is the whole Chicken Sandwhich with all the toppings.... Can't wait.

PrinceOfAnger135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

Yeah It will probably be 5 years development

SimpleSlave135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

That's awesome. So how long till the studio closes and everyone gets fired?

Series S owners: "but can it run crysis doh?"

Crytek Sends Cease and Desist To A Popular Photo Mode Modder Frans Bouma

Immersed Gamer writes: "Frans Bouma just received a Cease and Desist letter from Crytek, developers of Crysis. Did he pirate their game? Or maybe he infringed on their copyright? What horrible thing did Bouma do to deserve this? Well, he modded in a photo mode so that people could take beautiful pictures and share them on social media."

Open source the code and dump it on the internet.

mastershredder825d ago

"from his Patreon page" Uhhhh yeah.......Oh gee and I wonder why that was problem? You know where this goes there Filip or perhaps you are just not quite yet.

Mazgamer825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

It's astounding how quickly someone uniformed will take a side of soulless company just because a modder might be making some pocket change.

For your information: He puts all of his camera mode mods on GitHub, completely free of charge. His Patreon is nothing more than a way to tip him some cash for his work.

He says so himself on his GitHub page:
I do this for fun, not profit, but can't create cameras for games I don't own. I've therefore setup a Patreon page which allows you to safely support my work".

Are you following "mastershredder", or are you not quite there yet?

Giblet_Head825d ago

I did some digging and from what I can see it's probably the "early access" releases of his mods only through Patreon that may have stirred Crytek to send the C&D. Apart from that his mods are indeed available free of charge through his GitHub page.

CobraKai825d ago

It’s a non-profit mod tho. It confuses me cuz modders can do things like completely overhaul the art assets of a game or add licensed cars, but adding a photo mode seems to get the cease.

Orchard825d ago

I guess they want to be the next T2/Rockstar...

Fishy Fingers825d ago

Rarely do you see something with so much potential (Crytek) shoot themselves in the foot so many times.

BlackIceJoe825d ago

Instead of sending a C&D Crytek should thank him, for this, because this will lead to more people buying and playing the game.
