Wii Staying At $249 This Christmas

Nintendo expects to keep its Wii video game console priced at $249 for the time being since it is selling all of the units it makes, a senior U.S. executive said on Thursday.

"We'll stay at $249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make," George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing at Nintendo America, told Reuters in an interview.

Makes sense. I know I was wondering how long the 360 would stay at it's price point but really it just kept selling so why bother. Wii is in the same boat. If it's still selling no need to drop the price just yet.

They make a profit on every Wii sold ($50). Since MS went the bundle pack route instead of another price drop to combat the $399 PS3, the Wii is still a $100 cheaper than the xbox elite. I knew once MS didn't lower the cost, Nintendo would follow suit. The problem for Wii though is different - will they have enough units to sell to their consumers over Xmas or will the shortages allow the other 2 to make ground?

the ps3 is now 399$ , and you get this , that , etc, etc, over the wii for only 150$ more , a true next gen system , not some watered down ps2 with 50 different motion controllers repackaged as tennis rackets, wii lightsabers etc etc, if i could go back in time, i would not have bought the wii, waste of money , just got damn thing for zelda, and that even felt like repackaged zelda game with motion controller, ps3 is gonna serve the so called competition in years to come

Nintendo are some money grubbing theives. Repackaging a gamecube and then putting a remote in it. Real Innovative right? WRONG!

In 1996, Nintendo claimed to have "shortages" of the Nintendo 64 and in 2001 the same with Gamecube. Which is why Playstation kicked their ass every holiday and will repeat this holiday. Not with the PS3, but with the PS2.

While trying to Nintendo tries to extort buyers out of their hard earned cash, consumers will see they can get a true next gen experience on PS3 and Wii's will be left on the shelf.

PS3's only competition is itself because nothing can still outsell the PS2. Which means more revenue for Sony.

well you're right on one point. The PS2 is the main competitor for PS3 seeing that PS3 won't be able to play PS2 games... and no I can't drop that for it's a big issue in my eyes.

So they're really bad money-grubbing thieves? If that's that truth, then they're not greedy, they're incompetent.

So they're going to see that they can get a true next gen experience, pass on it, and get a ps2?
