I'm pretty sure whats ment by the statement is the PS3 is being worked on before the 360. Since porting from PC to PS3 is apprently difficult, i'd be working on the PS3 first aswell.

But anyway, no. The reason PC is better is because of dedicated servers, modding & mouse+kbd.

Graphics are really a non-factor to me, in the end I just want to play the game properly.

Anyway, PC gaming is in fact the cheapest as long as you buy smart (ie. don't buy from a nooby high-street retailer because they sell you an overkill CPU and an incapable graphics card for twice the price it should be).

Since sandy bridge and the latest gpus came out it is possible to play at 1080p with >60fps relatively cheaply.

There are a few key reasons why PC gaming is cheaper:
The games cost less because the publisher/developer doesn't have to pay platform licesnse fees - and you have a massive range of original franchises at really low prices for the same reason.
No xbox live payment (which is how microsoft make money from the xbox, think about it).
A wider and more competitive component market (no overpriced controllers of shoddy quality that need replaced, or proprietary adaptors simply to force people to pay more, like play and charge or the 360 wireless thing).
Think about how much a normal home computer costs, what is the price difference between that and a gaming one? Yes, less than the price of a console (though at the current stage in the console product lifecycle they are not expensive).

Sure, a lot of people spend more on PC gaming than they really need to for no real extra benefit. The real issue is that you have to get a custom built one (yourself or a friend etc.) otherwise you get ripped off.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with console gaming, of course I own consoles too and they certainly have their merits. People just have some annoying misconceptions about PC gaming.

On-topic: I didn't really see any huge difference on either console between Battlefield BC 1 or 2 so I really don't think there will be any significant difference with Battlefield 3.

Rainstorm81 is right on the money. I've come to the conclusion PC fanboys are the worst. If you even say a console game looks good they are quick to come in and say "PC always looks better..." on and on for no reason. They really have a complex. PC will of course have the better graphics compared to consoles but playing with mouse/KB is a real pain except for RTS games and I don't like sitting at my desk more than I have to.

Check the Battlefield forums. The PS3 fanboys are blaming the 360 for "holding the PS3 back again". They seem to think that the 360 is the reason that the PS3 version of BF3 will only go up to 24 players.

Then they name MAG as an example of PS3 being able to do 256 players. They do not understand that MAG and BF3 are two different games, running on two different engines.

You know that BF3 is running on FB2 a complete rewrite of the FB engine (evolutionary). Dice was proud to "compete with the vistas of UC2" in BC2.

Let the devs see what they come up. Dice seems to like a challenge. BC1 & 2 were basically same engines on both PS3 and 360 (PS3 port), looks like they go a little bit more aggressively with BF3. I like that, the SPUs can really be utilized to use FB2's features. I would want to see a difference between PS3 and 360. If it would be just the technical perspective, I would think there will be a difference (dynamic lightning, physics and AI using SPUs can boost the engine a lot! read the postmortem for KZ3..) - look at DAII full MLAA (or sort) in the PS3 version.

Maybe multiplatform developers are getting to push the PS3 now like Sony's devs did in the past. It's about time I'd say.

might not sell as much the 1st month as consoles but i bet it will be closer than ppl think in that 1st month, though over the next 1-2 years bf3 on pc will outsell both consoles, pc games keep selling well over time and usually get better cause hardware gets better and older hardware gets allot cheaper so more and more ppl can play at higher settings and at a better frames and pc gamers get to play against better players of course :-) the pace is so much faster on pc cause everyone can aim better, even magnetism, auto aim, snapping, acceleration and friction scripts for console aiming can't help the controller keep up with the mouse and keyboard in an fps, devs do try there best to make sure you think your aiming with that controller though :-)

er, bfbc2 on pc was an obvious console port. Still far better on PC of course.

I think they were testing the waters to see if they would get incredible console sales, they did ok but not enough to focus entirely on consoles. Most of the annoying bugs were on all platforms anyway.

It is odd though, battlefield 3 will sell the same numbers on pc and the same numbers on consoles no matter how good/bad it is - so they really have no reason to bother. Of course, I hope they do try to make it amazing (they might need to hire more competent programmers though, bc2 was the buggest game I have ever played)

I'll wait until a see a Digital Foundry comparison then i'll shout for joy. I heard comments like these before with the actual product being completely different from what the dev's stated. However, Battlefield Bad Company 2 does look better on the PS3 with the Xbox360 version suffering from a texture dithering effect thats completely absent in the PS3 version. Well, i wouldn't say its better because both versions have its faults. Dice is one of the best developers around but hopefully they focus on getting both versions running good like they did before with BFBC2. However, things are different this time around with PC being the lead but the only draw back with that is that i hope that they give the PS3 version special treatment being that the system's architecture is almost completely different, so a straight port wouldn't be enough.

So, plus and minus points for both versions of the game, but clearly the visual drawbacks in the Xbox 360 version are the more noticeable overall.

Bad Company 2 360 has an ever-so-slightly higher average frame-rate, and a small, but noticeable advantage in terms of screen-tear

Conclusion: PS3 better graphics and as for the Xbox360 version? A slightly better average frame-rate and screen tear.

Personally though Battlefield Bad Company 2 runs great on my PS3 so i'm happy it got the slightly better graphics.

In the clips above, lowest frame-rate was 25FPS on PS3, and 26FPS on 360: the difference essentially unnoticeable when averages are at 29.4FPS and 29.8FPS respectively.

Exactly, MrObjective. we argue over tiny differences picked up by comparison sites. sites who HAVE to find differences and blow them out of all proportion just to justify their own existence-is it right that tearing and FPS drops detected only by programs are used to choose between versions? No, if you couldn't pick it without programs and running the games side by side, if you couldn't tell just playing the damn game it isn't a difference worth noticing, is it?

On consoles multiplats are aiming to be as similar as possible and BF3 will be no different-the differences will be teeny and not easy to spot even WITH the two versions running side by side. after all ths time the only game I really needed to have on 360(I prefer to game on my PS3 and DS3)because there was a game breaking issue with the PS3 port was TOB. Even Bayonetta was preferable-to me-on PS3 with my favourite controller. After the patch the loads were OK and the slowdown was never the issue they made it out to be-and that's meant to have been this awful, mess of a port but had it not been pointed out and blown up few people would have cared and it never spoiled my enjoyment one bit so where's the issue with the other billion games without these supposed problems?

The PC version will look the best and have the usual slew of options and mods we expect along with a good community and cheaper price but even saying that the two console versions will both still look good and have the advantages all console games have for those who prefer console gaming and not having to think about their rig too much. Everyone will get a great gamep-stop worrying and giving LoT and DF a reason to exist when all they do is propel a console war that doesn't really exist. And neither should those sites. Feeble.

There is no way I could play this game anywhere but the PC. For the people that only own consoles I hope it turns out great, but I'm not expecting it to hold a candle to the PC version.

The Bad Company games were really not that impressive on the consoles. They were plagued with screen tearing and lots of jaggies. Hopefully they will understand that performance is more important than graphical features and will dial down the graphics to a point that the consoles can actually handle it.

PC gamers always come back from the dead toward the end of a console generation. It's like death, taxes, and a yearly Call of Duty... inevitable. The next set of consoles will show up and they will get quiet again for awhile because new consoles perform like a fairly high end gaming rig when they launch, and they do it for much less money. You're right about the non-differences between most multiplats. There are a few on both consoles that look appreciably better than the other console, but the vast majority look so close as to make no real difference. Exclusives have been the measuring stick since 2600 vs Intellivision, yet somehow someone convinced a certain group that multiplats are where it's at now. When you compare exclusives it's not tough to see why multiplats have become the focus for them though.

I put over 100 hours into BFBC2's multiplayer on the Xbox before getting rid of the game - then a few months ago, I got a good deal on the PS3 version and have been playing it off and on since. No multiplatform game maxed out the PS3 so far. Heck, not even the best exclusives did. The only game really pushing the envelope is KZ3 (ATM). The most advanced game today on the PS3 is KZ3 (think what you want. Read the dev report about the game. They give a pretty detailed insight how and what they did).

Crysis2 is certainly not there. If Crytek is committed to focus on the platform implementation rather than the tool chain, they might maybe sometimes get to that point.

On the other hand Dice has released quite some high end titles on consoles and with BC2 has released a high class game on both 360 and PS3 - with no drawbacks on either one.

If Dice takes this seriously and really pushes more an more modules to the SPUs like most of Sony studios do, they can improve on that by a factor two compared to BC2. They would be the first multiplatform studio doing that. EA needs to back it up. But it will not look the same on 360 and PS3 if they do. If they want to compete (visually) against KZ3, inFamous2, Resistance3 or UC3...they better step it up. Certainly possible.

I want to see how the 360 can hold up to that. So far I don't believe it will. But Dice might surprise us all. If it will be close it will be the best 360 game anyway.

And BTW: KZ3 runs 32 players - something which most high class MP shooters don't. Maybe it won't do 64, 32 is still great number.

BF2 was a very nice looking game when it arrived and i loved every minute of it. (hate 2142. Bored me shitless. Lost the battlefield feel imo, hope they never make another one).

Everyone is crazy over which version will be better and who's got the better E-dong. Just buy whichever version you'll enjoy the most. If you have a good PC and enjoy K/M then buy it on PC, if you enjoy the PS3 controller over the Xbox controller then get the PS3 version and vice-versa for the Xbox version. Well it's a bit obvious that you're talking out of your arse there if you think that there will be no discernible difference between the PC and the console versions. While DICE may not push the PC hardware to what it's truly capable of, it'll be at least a generation apart from the consoles on a visual level. Not only that, but the physics, size of maps, and player counts will all make a huge difference to gameplay as well.

As for the 360 and PS3 versions, they will look like a poor man's PC version, but still look great. The footage shown of the game was pre-alpha, and I expect the console versions to look similar to that, but with jaggies and less texture detail. The gold build of the PC version will blow that footage out of the water. Now, if you want to talk differences between the two console versions, there won't be any, and you can blabber and bullshit all you like (goes for anyone else too). The reasosn being is that it's multi-plat, and the most important aspect is that the visuals pushed from multi-play games all stem from the capablitlies of the GPU. When the PC is the primary interest for DICE, the consoles won't be pampered this time around. They'll just be happy to get it out there up and running.

If they fail to get more than 24 players on both systems, then forget about it. The game won't work, seeing that jets will be present and it'll be a wankers campfest waiting to take a ride in one, which will leave about 4 people trying to attack flags and objectives with massive maps to cover.

I don't really care that BF3 is being ported to the consoles. That's just more money for DICE to do more great things for PC Gamers and Gamer in general. Unlike Activision who makes money by the tons but haven't given back to the gamers.

GTX>360>PS3 on graphics with very few exceptions (uncharted). If 100 games look better on 360 and five exclusives look better on PS3, 360 wins. Better GPU (both 2005 technology). There have been too many examples of this. Ghostbusters devs keep bragging about how good the PS3 version is, then the final game comes out looking noticeably inferior to the 360 version. Bioware tells us the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 is the definitive version and when it comes out it is described by Digital Foundry as slightly technically inferior, definitely not definitive. Crytek at one point said something about the PS3 version of Crysis 2 leading the 360 version, but it is looking like that probably won't be the case.

Why not do your best on every platform and let the chips fall where they may? Don't make silly comments that only create false expectations that might not be fulfilled.

unfortunately better graphics on the ps3 does not make up for the horrible psn service. This is the reason I only buy ps3 exclusives on the ps3, because PSN is junk.

PS for the people wishing this was an exclusive, you are assholes.... just because you're a fanboy of one console doesn't mean you shouldn't let others enjoy a good game who don't share the same interest as you. when mass effect 2 came to the ps3 I was nothing more than happy, because its a terrific game and people should experience how good it is... Fanboys are stupid idiots who let jealousy and greed overtake their natural senses.....

I really don't feel like buying another standard military FPS game this year but if I do It's going to be Battlefield 3. It's not day 1 though.

How in the world is this news. During developments progress is not made in simultaneous steps per platform. This is to be expected, for whatever platform its currently performing better on.

I own one. But facts are facts. Other than Uncharted, most games look better on 360. ATI developed a better GPU and it shows. Read the comparisons (Head 2 Head). People with brains have made objective reports. So the opinions of PS3 and 360 fans are useless. And yes, the PC rocks. Can your system do 90+ FPS at 1080p? Or even 720? There's the world of fantasy and there's a real world in which only a few games look better on PS3. lead development and actually being a better game are different things. They simply don't want ps3 owners to ignore it. Remember the last E3? Medal of Honor was all PS3; 360 ended up having the better version.
