wha? dude, are you serious? Nintendo is the one playing Catch-up here, if this article is true, that means PSP2's have the ability to stay online at all times, as long as you pay a monthly fee with a service provider. on the other hand, you have to go to a nearby wifi hotspot on the 3DS so you can download content.

I think what you are trying to say is that they are just hurting themselves for making the console expensive, which is what we dont know yet. if its $300, and has a great lineup of games, then its going to sell. if its $300+, then it wont do well in the market.

No, you don't have to. If you want internet and online gaming on the go then you have the choice to sign up to whatever company will offer you 3G. If you don't want to you can just game at home via wifi.

Not really a big selling point for me. I'm not planning on using my PSP for crappy online play or browsing the Internet. If I play online, it will be via wi-fi for best data transfer rates. And I already own an iPhone that does all the other 3G things I need.

Touch screen is nice, though, meaning we can have a good mixture of game controls. This also means we will likely see a ton of indie games ported over to the PSP2, __IF__ Sony doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a dev kit again.

It is nice but not a system seller to me. 4G is moving in and this will work fine on both as well as wifi. The GO supported 3G as well but not many knew that. It did it through tethering where by if your phone is 3G and had that feature, you could use the GO on the go through your existing carrier.

By incorporating it in to the PSP2 (rumor) will add to the cost of ownership while being a nice option. It should support tethering as well for users who dont want to incur a new monthly fee. That just makes better economical sense for sony and the consumer.

Have you tried online gaming over 3G ? its not very good, too much lag and the variable signal strength means an inconsistant connection.

I will stick with Wifi, guessing the 3G Models will be more expensive like on the iPad.

As for the Cell processor being used :O, that is going to own!
They will under clock it so it uses less power and less heat but is still really powerful enough to pump out amazing graphics!

The ONLY thing that concerns me is battery life, I hope it lasts a while and doesn't burn out quick with all the features.

What 3g do you use? Wi-fi is waay better than any network. Untill we can broadcast reliable signals via comm towers that can penetrate bathroom walls so I can game in the toilet Wi-fi is more reliable when within a hotspot.

3g is not what at&t makes it out to be sorry to burst your bubble.

I use 3G and wifi on my android. I say it's better because you have more access to it and don't need a router nearby to use it. So you can either sit on a bus with no signal at all or sit in a bus and be able to play an online game and get access to online features thanks to 3G. Same goes in a multitude of situations.

E-readers consume a very limited amount of bandwidth so a "free" 3G is not a problem for such devices. A handheld game console though could use up a huge amount of bandwidth, especially if they support web browsing and streaming media in addition to the expected online multiplayer support.

OLED touch screen? I'm not sure about how truthful this article is. The PSP2 doesn't' have a touch screen. It has a touch PAD on the back out it. Maybe they just meant OLED screen with a touch pad on the back.

I HIGHLY doubt the PSP2 will have a touch screen. IMO touch screens aren't that great. They force your hand off of the buttons and the user covers up the screen when touching it. Having a touch pad on the back of it is MUCH better. The user doesn't have to remove his/her hand from the buttons and you don't cover up the screen when using it.

Touch pad on the back, touchscreen, 2 sticks, almost as powerful as a ps3, with nvidia handling the graphics.

psn is still free, but if you pay to play online thats due to the carrier supporting your 3G.

What else, no 3D initially but the psp2 is design like a ps3 so expect a trend of meaningful updates which perhaps might even include 3D.

I know what you are saying, but i would think it make sense for them to apply that same concept elsewhere as well, since 3g has become a common thing in the U.S.

The issue is how will they handle the whole 3g service, like i can see them releasing some terms and condition on their handheld as soon as you turn it on, stating what the rules and regulations for such service are.

But i suppose it be nice if somehow they allowed you to use your current 3g connection off your current data plan at no extra cost.

By just being able to disable it in one device and re-establishing it on another as long as your accounts are some how linked.

That whole PlayStation app that was recently released had me thinking of sorts of things, i suppose the possibilities are endless.

I believe it is possible to use your phone's 3G connection via bluetooth. I have seen other portable devices that can link up this way. Sony did include bluetooth on the Go so it seems feasible that it would be in the PSP2.
Yup, I'm calling it right now. PSP2 will connect to your phones bluetooth and access your carriers 3G connection.

Its a big deal because that means you can play online games on the go without having to be tied to a wifi hotspot. since its optional, you have a choice of playing it that way for long trips,or if you dont want to pay that monthly fee, then play it the old school way via wifi. Im pretty sure though that you would be able to tether it with a cell phone that allows it via bluetooth or that can turn into a wifi hotspot. More options for everyone.

The psp2 is going to be online centric. Its going to be interesting to see how much psn integration it has Android what new features it includes

I'm really wondering why they're showing off the PSP2 on the 27th of January and not at E3, only the biggest gaming event in the world. If this ends up happening, that only means one thing. Sony has something BIGGER than the PSP2 to show off at E3, which would go hand in hand with my "Announce PS4 for 2012" theory. But of course I can see some other details about the PSP2 announced aswell.

So it looks like we'll have to wait and see. Only 3 more days.

It doesn't matter whether or not you want the PS4 to come out that soon. Sony has stuck with both previous Playstation Consoles for at least a total lifetime of 10 years, supporting them with new content. So you have nothing to worry about. Not to mention I'm pretty sure they've learned their lesson about making their new console cost way too much money at launch when there are competitors selling the same for less. Just had to get that out of the way.

I highly doubt the whole ps4 in 2012 happening, the ps3 is still at 300, if anything they just started making a decent profit on the thing and will probably announce a price drop to gain some much needed sales boost and announce a slew of hidden exclusives at their show.
Including new move titles announced and more on upcoming games like uncharted 3, resistance 3, twisted metal, last guardian and so on.

And on top of that also I do see them using the show to announce the psp2 line up and invite 3rd developers up on stage to announce their support for the new platform.

With that said, I expect exclusives will get announce for the handheld to get people amped up and excited over their platform and the commitment they are putting behind said platform. In there, there will be some kind of ps3 reference used in terms of support to furter get the message across peoples minds.
Given how much support the home console appears to have as of late, Its safe to assume most people will than, most likely, walk out the show feeling optimistic about the psp2.

In addition to all this they will probably and most likely talk about psn intregration, and the possibility of cross platform communication between the psp2 & ps3 platforms (think cross text messaging between both platforms).

Now what I would like to see?
Them talk about cloud on the ps3 so that psn can expand and become more like an exclusive steam for their platforms. Where you could go and store data and upload psn purchases from any of the two or 3 devices assuming the xperia gets involve in all this.

Imagine being able to upload and download content of reasonable size from the psn store to the ps3 and back to the psp2 on the go?

movies, psn games, psone classics, even ps2 hd remakes of the store and ofcourse minis.

Than you add a better psn integration to the device, add trophy support that links to your psn account and adds those trophies to the ones you already have. (one account two devices)

Now theres more ram and memory, more room for the device to multitask better. Think in-game music in the majority of the games, messaging in game and all that good stuff.
