Metal Gear Solid HD trilogy coming to PS3?

Its the type of game that requires a lot of time investment and once you get it its the best there is.

Just having MGS in HD would be incredible. Hands down my favorite part of MGS4 was the return to Shadow Moses. It's the best game in the series and I would love to go through it again with an updated engine and sound. Hopefully they'll make them all 3rd person instead of being stuck to the overhead camera.

I think MGS3 subsistence had a behind the shoulder view, but it would be nice to have for MGS1 and 2. Or at least have a first person view for MGS1 for all weapons.

MGS3 didn't have the over the shoulder view, but it was the first to have a fully 3D camera (introduced in the expansion, Subsistence). Implementing it would be a bad idea, because they're not designed for it. Just look at The Twin Snakes, a remake of the original using MGS2's new gameplay mechanics. Some boss fights, like The Revolver Ocelot one, became piss easy due to the gameplay not being adjusted to accomodate the new mechanics.

I say this because, as it has been mentioned in earlier comments, the over the shoulder view in Twin Snakes diluted some of the challenge for MGS1 because the original game was designed with over head perspective in mind. Meaning I was only referring to the viewpoint/perspective of Twin Snakes vs MGS1 in my previous comment. The graphics for Twin Snakes, on the other hand, I'm perfectly fine with Konami giving an HD makeover.

Why would that make it easier? The PS3 architecture is about as far from a PC you can get while the PS2 and PS3 actually share slightly similar design in their CPU's.

the PS3's vector processors are very different from PC CPU's but the main proccessing unit is not so special(powerPC architecture, same basic instruction set as the GC,wii,360 and PowerPC based macs). Also the GPU is just the same as one of a PC(based on the nvidia G7900/7800)

It's very likely they won't use the vector processors(aka SPU's) in the MGS collection. The main processor(without SPU's) + GPU is sufficient to run MGS trilogy HD in 1080p@60FPS,4xAA,4xAF with updated textures and better mipmapping. The orange box which had much better graphics than the mgs games also didn't use the SPU's(the framedrops are due to memory leaks, and generally bad and quick coding)

The difficulty of porting is also largely based on the code itself. Games completely written in assembler are VERY difficult to port, this is why some PS2 games will prob. never have a second life on the PS3. Games completely written in C however are much easier to port(cf. GoW collection)

This would be very interesting if it proves to be true. I say this because if you look back about two months or so ago, there was an article posted on a site that was claiming they had an interview with a Sony associate, and in the article where they were discussing backward compatibility and issues pertaining to that (which ultimately lead to the discussion of the HD collections), the Sony rep mentioned something along the lines of "...fans will be really interested in what they're working with for the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy franchises". So provided that this turns true, it may very well give reason to believe that the article was indeed legitimate, and that there should be a Final Fantasy HD Collection in the works as well. That would be quite interesting to see.

Yeah it's like BCR and RisingDragon said, they were only the original games (PS1 version of MGS, the Substance version of MGS2, and the Subsistance version of MGS3) in that Trilogy collection, and none of them were changed for that release. The downside to that pack also is that they didn't include the second disc for the Substance or Subsistance (actually I can't remember if Substance had a second disc or not), which means that you don't get some of the really good extras.

I own two copies of MGS3 (Normal and Subsistence), one beat up copy of MGS2, a disc copy of MGS1 for PSOne and finally a digital copy of MGS1 from the PSOne Classics section on the PSN. And I would GLADLY buy this collection without even a second thought.

Seeing as Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 are by far my favorites in the series, I would LOVE to put time into every one of these and platty them. That's one thing my trophy list is really missing; Metal Gear Solid trophies.

Now we just need to find out if they're redoing the PSOne version or the Gamecube version. I'm hoping for the PSOne version as Twin Snakes had WAY too much slow-mo and acrobatic Dragon Ball Z fights. Even Kojima wasn't a fan of it.

I bought a PS3 because of MGS4, I love MGS!

Then I found Uncharted and Killzone.
Gotta love Playstation.

Anyway, I dont care which engine they use, original hd/non hd, MGS4 engine or what not.
I just want to play MGS 2 and 3 again.

The part in MGS4 when you go to Shadow Moses almost made me cry of joy, the music and the feeling of the wonderful MGS1 can make some strong emotions.

& please can the Trilogy have a facelift (MGS1 specifically), even if it's the GameCube port.

Last time they packaged the 3 on disc, it was a bit disappointing 2 get the original PS1 port with 1st-gen graphics :-/

Not HD, sub-HD. HD would look awful. HD is just marketing to make people think "WOW!". The original games will probably be upscaled.

Still, I hope they do come. Sub-HD or 480i/p.

Tbh, I was would expect this to happen. When I first heard of the GoW 1&2 HD remakes the first thing I thought was MGS collection, Splinter Cell collection, Panzer Dragoon collection, (lol, I wish).

There is a god..... back in 1998 when I first started playing this game. I had no idea at all it would become what it has over the years. I got MGS1 as a Christmas present and started my journey on the very next day. Been super duper die hard ever since.

Hopefully MGS1 would be the MGSTS Gamecube version with all of it's wonderful added coolness. Minus the Nintendo shoutouts of course since that would just seem weird on a Sony console. lol

They shouldn't remake MGS1-3...
They should remake Metal Gear 1 and 2.
Keep it 2D, up the graphics, voiceovers, the works.
