PS3's 2011 Exclusive Games Line-up One of Best in Video Game History, says Analyst

With PlayStation Move being a key focus for Sony during the last quarter of 2010, there weren't that many traditional titles for the hardcore to snatch up, except for Gran Turismo 5. In 2011, however, Sony is gearing up for a number of 'AAA' exclusives for its platform, which should make PS3 owners quite happy.

They got a lot of them, don't they? Too bad all of them seem to be follow ups to existing franchises and nothing new. I'll love Uncharted 3, I'm sure of it, but I'll still have wanted something new this year. Not a huge, huge fan of Killzone and how stiff it feels. Add to this it's a FPS, so I hate it even more. That brings me to Resistance 3, which has everything going against it already. Infamous 2 might be fun for a play thru, liked the 1st even though it was riddled with short comings -- But really what else is there that's new? Nothing.

Yes, people are going to hate me, disagree with me and probably say I'm an xbox fanboy or whatever -- But the truth is the truth, regardless of how you wanna defend your console of choice. I have the benefit of not being a real gamer. I see things much more clearly than a die hard gamer does.

edit for I find it funny

Yes, they do. I won't argue that fact. Sony owns more developers, more quality developers, than any studio does. Too bad they don't make more learning games for you.

I_find_it_funny4852d ago

Sony got so many franchises, you can't help it

redwolf4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

@ bait
you got to admit they got variation to there line -up,
both in high quality and quantity
from journey,Lbp2, , DCLO, Motorstorm, MLB 11: The Show, Twisted Metal, Sorcery, or Trinity: Souls of Zillm, Yahuza 4,Team ICO Collection, WKC 2, Rachet all 4 one, Ape Escape, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Playstation Move heroes,FF veruses13, PixelJunk Shooter 2, Nino Kuni, Disgaea 4, the last guradian...

many more to think of which represents the best of almost all generes in gaming

AAACE54852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

My Ps3 will be getting a lot of use this year... as well as a lot of others I suspect! Either way you look at it... hell of a line up this year and my primary focus will be Uncharted 3!

Persistantthug4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

It's the fact that you find so much fault in the PS3 library of 2011 games, which is like 20 or so exclusives,

But you find nothing to say about XBOX 360's 2011 games, with is practically nonexistent. As if all those Kinect games are totally right up your alley.

You know what that's called Mr. Balt?
That's called extreme bias and hypocrisy.

Enjoy your Bieber box I guess.
*shrug*

UCMEandICU4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

"oh gee look, it's only sequels no new IP" lol

Off the top of my head there are 4 new IPs coming exclusive to the PS3 this year and even more if you include PSN titles.

When the haters were trying to kill off as many new IPs back in 2007, and even still till today, you all didn't care Sony was investing in bringing new stuff to gamers. You just wanted the games to die and praised funding big money for timed exclusive DLC

So now Sony is building off the success of these new IPs with sequels and that's supposed to be "meh" yet, the 360 has been starved for exclusive new IPs with only kinetic gaming carrying the load for next year and the haters turn their blind eye cause it just hurts too much to face the truth.

Crazy how Sony has to totally ellipse the 360 library of games with arguably the best lineup in history for it to be seen as having "a slight edge"

Damn, the crap Sony and the PS fans have to go through this gen is monstrously insane.

rroded4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

sony just keeps upping the ante imo no way is anyone else raising the bar as high.

RageAgainstTheMShine4851d ago

Poor us PS3 gamers we only have exclusive games this year but no millions of sales figures to play with.
boo hoo!

Tommykrem4852d ago

Come on, don't be so negative!
Just because they're sequels doesn't mean they won't be original. The Last Guardian looks like the most original game set for 2011 (possibly 2012) and that's technically a sequel.
Besides, there's always something new out there. Like DC Universe coming this month. Or The Agency, or Sorcery, or Trinity: Souls of Zill, or PSN games like Under Siege and Journey!

And then there's the small possibility that we will see Agent or Exodyssey this year :)

Dragon_Hiko4852d ago

"Yes, people are going to hate me, disagree with me and probably say I'm an xbox fanboy or whatever -- But the truth is the truth, regardless of how you wanna defend your console of choice. I have the benefit of not being a real gamer. I see things much more clearly than a die hard gamer does"

You are not a real gamer, your a real smug idiot from what I can tell. What you should have said, and what is TRUE, is that everything you said is your OPINION. Everything you said is true, for you and yourself alone. My god I can't believe your arrogance with that statement. I also love how your 'not a real gamer' yet your sitting your ass down on NEWS 4 GAMERS .com telling a bunch of gamers that your opinion is more important and accurate than theirs, and they all need to shut up and listen to what you say. Well again I say to you, your wrong.

Would_You_Kindly4852d ago

xD Well said, I couldn't have put it better myself.

I am more then pleased with the line up for this year, both for exclusives and multi-plat games. And I have no problem with sequels; I happen to love seeing my favorite stories continued, often bigger, and better then before. I'm pretty sure all of the Halo/COD fans feel the same, haha. You look throughout time, and follow ups are plenty 'original' and popular enough, on ALL consoles. Examples, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Super Mario, Metal Gear Solid, and COUNTLESS others. Oh, and on PC, I can't wait for Diablo 3.

Case in point, that post was epic fail. Oh, and sorry to say, but being LESS of a gamer doesn't in any way allow you to know MORE. Lawls.

RememberThe3574852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Not according to himself.

From his own profile:
"I'm not a gamer and I don't "game" a lot of games. Games made today [are a] waste of time, energy and money. They are pointless."

I don't really understand why he even comes to this site if he doesn't seem to even like games today. There are a lot of other thing to do with your life then read about stuff you don't like.

CaliGamer4852d ago

@ Balt

For someone who is not a "real gamer" you sure spend a lot of time stating what you don't like about video games. As a matter of fact, looking at your post history, you are one of the most negative people on this site and seem to be extremely interested in what Sony is doing. More than half of your comments today alone are Sony related.

And to the last sentence you wrote, "Too bad they don't make more learning games for you." Sounds like you might be the one that needs a “learning game”. Your grammar is an assault on the English language and good sense.

Good Day! Lol.

gunnerforlife4852d ago

divideby04852d ago

the only comment Balt said which I totally agree with...
" he is not a real gamer"...

learning games.... only one I have is Brain Acad. on my DS..
dont have any for my Wii or 360...

VenomProject4852d ago

What a weak-ass argument, how can anyone that calls himself a gamer not be excited for Sony's 2011 lineup?

Define innovative. What do you consider to be "new?" What are you looking for? The messiah of games?

You don't see anything "more clearly," I'd even go as far to say that you don't see things at all.

Hardcore gamer, or not - this year will be amazing for the REAL gamers.

OllieBoy4852d ago

Oh look, it's butthurt Balt. Still not banned yet I see.

Well...keep on trying.

ufo8mycat4852d ago

At least they are delivering quality games, unlike Microsoft or Nintendo

King-Leonidas4852d ago

of all the names you mentioned- all of them are new IPs, except Killzone

elitesupreme4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

"They got a lot of them, don't they? Too bad all of them seem to be follow ups to existing franchises and nothing new."

REALLY?

"Too bad they don't make more learning games for you."

You must be talking about yourself with your IMAGINARY console of choice there, cuz you sure as hell don't know a damn thing about videogames. New IP's are introduced, garner favorable sales/praise, funds the devs. for sequel, sequel sells same/better, funds another sequel, sequel sells same/better than previous sequel, meanwhile the devs. have already been contemplating new ideas for new IP's already.

RINSE.REPEAT.

Since you hate sequels, guess you hate improvements and good stories/plots that are ultimately better as a whole with all of the sequels.

Developers can't afford to introduce NEW IP's everytime. Besides, if all games WERE just NEW IP's, then I GUARANTEE that you'd have an overflow of shovelware.

Come to think of it, YOU'RE probably a Wii fan since that console is plagued with so many NEW IP's/shovelware, am-i-rite :)

Makes you a proud PS3 owners these days

Dragon_Hiko4852d ago

Actually, I've been proud of the ps3 since I bought it at launch for 600. It was an investment because I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind (and I told all my friends this many times, but they never believed me) that regardless of anything else, Sony is going to bring massive amounts of amazing exclusive content, just like the did with the ps1, just like they did with the ps2. And also just like those two consoles, it takes years before they hit their strides.

MatthewMk24852d ago

I've always been a proud PS3 owner. And 360 and PC. Why stick with just one system?

ufo8mycat4852d ago

MatthewMk24852d ago

Sequels! After this tear I hope Sony gets some new IPs. After the third game a series almost always goes down hill. The only series that I can think of that hasn't started to go stale after 3 games is Battlefield. Other Devs have to look at how EA and DICE reinvent the series every few games while still keeping what makes battlefield awesome there.

Tommykrem4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

I think Sony has introduced the most new IPs the generation, but yeah it's time for a change. Many game series has kept the quality up way longer than three titles though.
Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Halo, Call of Duty, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, WipEout, Twisted Metal, Ratchet and Clank, Elder Scrolls (assuming that 5 will be awesome), Street Fighter, Mario (main series, anyway), Zelda, and the list continues...

But yeah, new IPs are always good.

MatthewMk24852d ago

Yes I guess you're right. What I was thinking with Battlefield was how DICE almost completely changes the series every few sequels but still keeps the core gameplay, large scale vehicular warfare, intact. They're not afraid to experiment with the series, while all those games you mentioned just build upon what came before, were as Battlefield completely builds itself from the ground up every few games. Not to mention BF Heroes, BF1943 and BF F2P. I'd love to see CoD or Halo try stuff like that.

RememberThe3574852d ago

I think your giving Battlefield a little too much credit. I have three Battlefield games and they seem pretty much the same. Thats not a bad thing because I like BF, but I haven't seen the reinventions you talk about.

Why would Sony have their devs put the time and money into new IPs instead of just improving what fans have shown they love. Look at how much Infamous has changed; LBP2 is still pretty much it's own genre; Uncharted 3 is looking like it will be in a class of it's own; From the beta feedback it seems the Killzone 3 is almost a different game from KZ2. IMO Sony's first party is doing a much better job than DICE at improving their games with each installment.

kneon4852d ago

I expect most of the new IPs will start showing up in 2012 with the PS4

OllieBoy4852d ago

They're sequels to IPs that Sony created THIS generation:

Uncharted
Resistance
inFamous
MotorStorm
LittleBigPlanet
The Last Guardian
Heavy Rain
Demon's Souls

Combined with older IPs: God of War, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, WipEout, Warhawk, SOCOM, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly, Hot Shots, MLB...Sony has the best stable of first-party franchises.

By far.

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6414d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long13d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197213d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic13d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

DivineHand12514d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91314d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer14d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91313d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit13d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 13d ago
Christopher14d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6913d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit13d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher14d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken14d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197213d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic13d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2314d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218314d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder14d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
