Anyone who considers themselves a gamer should at least try this game. It's unlike anything currently on the market.

I'm on my 5th playthrough with a melee/archer character, and a 2nd playthrough with a mage. And I don't see myself putting this game down anytime soon.

Focker4204857d ago

At that price this game is an absolute steal. Especially considering its one of the best games this gen.

FrankMcSpank4857d ago

This game kicked my ass. I admit I didn't have the commitment to finish it, but I loved it anyway. At $15 this is a great deal. Demon's Souls is something every hardcore gamer needs to at least try. It'll give you a lesson in humility.

Hoje03084857d ago

@Frank
I agree that everyone should play this game but, I don't think it's that hard. As long as you take your time and play to the strengths of your character, it really isn't too tough. Patience and strategy pay off in this game.

Ducky4857d ago

^ Patience and strategy are difficult for most of the current gaming population.

captain-obvious4857d ago (Edited 4857d ago )

i love this game
but i stopped at the very last arch stone
after the first monster
the damn swamp

too damn hard
:\
i can get to the end
but there is this 2 huge monsters with big noses
they keep killing me
i tried to get around them but its no use too
they are super fast in the swamp and you are slow
you cant dodge
and there is too little dry ground to combat 2 of them

i'll give it another go later on
i have to finish it

FunAndGun4857d ago

"Help, I'm in trouble....Please recommend this message."

Focker4204857d ago

@captain-obvious

The first two of those you encounter don't go near them (until you have really high level). Just use the ring that makes it hard for enemies to detect you, oh and a poison resistance ring. Sneak along the right wall and you can get right past them. Once you're past em go through the fog onto the bridge and stay to the left side. But later up the swap there will be a group of three of them. You can try to sneak past around them, or alert them one by one so you just fight em1 at a time.

If you are a lower level sneaking past the first two is essential or they'll kill you every time.

HolyOrangeCows4857d ago

Buy they game, fools! It's awesome!

Seriously, though. Good stuff. RPG GOTY 2009.

AKS4857d ago

@captain-obvious

5-2 is not actually that bad. Here are some tips to get through it.

First, make sure you are at or below 50% of your max equip limit so you're as quick as possible. You don't want to be any slower than you'll already be in that swamp. Next, get the Adjudicator's Shield and always at least have it on your back. You can also use the HP regen ring, which will stack with the other gear. If you have a faith build and a Blessed weapon, you also get even more HP regeneration to the point that the poison can't even drain any HP from you anymore. Maybe bring some items to cure poison and heal as needed.

All that's left for you to deal with are the diminished speed and a few tough trolls. You can use stealth and arrows to kill the trolls easily. The only major thing to watch out for after you've used my advice is to be careful around the trolls, who will charge and maul you if you get careless. You can actually use stealth to sneak past most of the enemies.

ThanatosDMC4856d ago (Edited 4856d ago )

Thief's Ring or whatever you call it in NA version. It'll save you a lot of times from monsters you dont see since they dont see you. You get it in the first arch as well as the Cling Ring which gives you 65-75% of your hp in soul form dependent on your affinity.

Those giant bastard will kill you when you're soaked in the swamp. Fight them on land and block when you really really have to just to dampen the damage. Kill them one at a time if you're not confident. Bow and run works too unless you have nowhere to run.

Vaud-Villian4857d ago

Agreed, its a game so nice I platinumed it twice

Nathaniel_Drake4857d ago

hehehe you rhymed, anyway this does sound like a good deal

The_Nameless_One4857d ago

@captian-obvious:

Equip your Ring of Poison Resistance and have the Gloom Armor on (if you have it). If you don't got that armor then just equip the armor you have with the biggest poison resistance. Also have Soul Remains and Royal Lotus. Every time you are ganged up by the the monsters just throw Soul Remains and they'll get distracted enough for you to kill them. Divide and Conquer. Every time you get poisoned use the Royal Lotus.

JoySticksFTW4856d ago (Edited 4856d ago )

Yeah, in World 5-2 I go stealth (Thief Ring) and ranged attack all the way.

With the three that gang up on you (two large trolls and a magic user), I kill all the slugs on the mound of land right before reaching the trolls, and I fire from there.

One or two arrows, and then let him wander back to his spot after searching for me for a while. Repeat.

It sounds cheap, but this is a level that even the game's designer admitted to having second thoughts about because he thinks it's too taxing.

Tough enemies, in an environment that limits movement, and punishes you for simply standing in it means you do whatever you need to get by.

If that doesn't work, post again. I'm sure some of us will put our Blue Phantom markers in game to help out.

nix4856d ago (Edited 4856d ago )

i used thief ring, distance n arrows to kill the trolls, and the tree (as a divider) n arrows to finish the big one off. i kept going in circles. lol. and then there's a black phantom.

mike90774857d ago

you will have to dedicate alot of time to beat this game especially in the beginning you will die alot especially from that red eyed dark knight i dont even think you can pass him until all you stats are at level 20. Challenging but a very rewarding game. I strongly suggest this game to any gamer who likes a challenge especially at that great price.

DragonKnight4857d ago

Nah. You can beat him at Soul Level 1. It's all about how you do it. If you're a Royalty Class (which is one of only 2 ways you could be at SL1) spam the hell out of Soul Arrow and he'll go down without touching you. Any other class all you need is a shield and the ability to roll. Let him hit your shield with his spear until he bounces back from the recoil, hit him and bring your shield up right away. Do this repeatedly until he dies. You could also lure him to a cliff where he'll fall to his death.

JoySticksFTW4856d ago (Edited 4856d ago )

Royalty, definitely because you have Soul Arrow, MP regen ring, and two feet run the heck out of there.

But going against him melee at SL1 is pretty suicidal for a new comer. Low starting health, low stamina to hold your defense as he pounds on your shield, parry timing is still a bit too advanced for a newbie... It can be done, but that new player will have to swallow extra portions of death and frustration before he develops the patience and timing to take on a red.

DragonKnight may be right though. These skills do need to be learned, so why not at the very beginning of the game. Later players learn how to farm the three red knights before Penetrator for easy souls. :)

My advice for new comers would be gain a few levels first before taking on a red straight up. Extra vitality may really come in handy if you blow one of your blocks, your defenses get broken, or you fudge a roll.

ThanatosDMC4856d ago

No, he'd heal himself and you wont damage him enough at that level. He'll chase after you too sometimes for a long time till he kills you.

Trying to engage him with at that level with a shield will completely destroy your stamina and will open you to a one hit kill strike. Parrying him will probably hard for newcomers since spears are harder to parry.

I suggest keep on killing the blue eyed knight for souls until you have the balls to take on the red eyed knight. You'll die, btw. My bet's on the knight.

DragonKnight4856d ago

You are forgetting that the Red Eyed Knight has patterns abut 80% of the time. He will always charge first, the first hit with his spear you can get to bounce off your shield with plenty of stamina left over even at SL1 to get in a hit. Then it's all about keeping the shield up and reading him. When he tries to shield bash, jump back and get that shield up. Eventually he will try to attack with his spear and it will bounce off your shield leaving him open. When he's going to heal himself, he always backs away to do it and it's easy to hit him then too.

Also, if you can get to an open area, say by the Mausoleum door, you can lock on to him with your shield up and circle around him. Half the time his attack will completely miss you, giving you a chance to back stab him.

Maybe that's just for me though, considering I do it all the time when I recreate characters.

Also, you can't really be a level 1 melee character at the beginning. The only way to become one is to be a BP and purposely de-level yourself.

DarkBlood4857d ago

i bought the game on boxing day, never started it yet with other gmaes im playing

DarkBlood4857d ago

the hell with the disagrees? i know i spelled wrong if thats your reason then thats pretty stupid or is it i never started it yet :P

Focker4204857d ago

They are disagreeing because you still haven't played it

DarkBlood4857d ago

Nitrowolf24857d ago

It just sux that the server are closing, such an awesome game

Orionsangel4857d ago

Why are they closing the servers? What's the purpose of that?

jaixvx4857d ago

Not True.....well not for awhile anyways.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010...

Focker4204857d ago

Its confirmed they aren't closing for at least another year.

@Orionsaint

Servers cost money to keep up and running.

Orionsangel4857d ago

I finally got 1500 souls to buy an axe. you just gotta know when to fold'em. don't get greedy or the game makes you pay and don't underestimate any enemy even the weakest ones. It's like the game knows when you have a lot of souls and makes enemies stronger.

Orionsangel4857d ago

I don't think anyone actually disagrees with me. They just hate that I'm very opinionated and usually right. So out of spite they click on disagree.

DragonKnight4857d ago

Why would you waste 1500 souls to buy an axe when you can get a Crushing Axe +1 in 2-1? Or get any of the many other better weapons just laying around? For example, no matter what class you're playing as, guaranteed that the Crescent Falchion in 4-1 will be your best weapon for awhile unless you managed to get Demonbrandt beforehand.

The best PS5 exclusives 2024

With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond

PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?

VersusDMC4d ago

They won't complain about Microsoft not releasing games here but put all their effort into saying that only first party counts. Games like Rebirth and Grandblue Relink don't count. Games published by Sony like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin don't count because Sony don't own the studios.

It's some narrative building so for when Hellblade 2 come out they can say, seemingly without shame, that Microsoft is actually releasing first party games this year. And claim victory.🙃

Chevalier4d ago

Weird 1st party games didn't matter when Xbox had so little, but, now they're important again? Guess Ark 3, Stalker 2 don't count any more?

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

ARK 3 doesn't exist and it's just a timed exclusive. It's also a game that a majority of the ARK player base doesn't want as it's a massive deviation from what people like about the original game

Abnor_Mal4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Honestly to me it doesn’t matter what they say, they are just finally getting a chance to say all the things PS fan(boy)s were saying to them for the past few years. Let them get that, they deserve a “win” for a change.

The new narrative is that suddenly first party games matter again when awhile ago they didn’t, but that was because they were struggling with the same three games with the occasional fourth or fifth. That games should be everywhere on all platforms since that’s whats happening to theirs. The consoles don’t matter just the ability to play anywhere. Whatever Xbox is doing Sony will soon follow.

They’re not moving the goalpost anymore, but rather just moving the whole damn stadium.

jwillj2k44d ago

Only a incel would care about who published what and who owns who.

If it’s not on the other consoles it’s an exclusive.

Killing what? Where are the 1st party games??
Stellar Blade and FF7 is what I’m seeing this year.. so shallow!!!!

andy854d ago

Doesn't really matter as long as they're great games. Baffles me why people put an emphasis on 1st party. They're still games you can't play anywhere else this year

Cacabunga3d ago

Andy

PS brand is my favorite because of their stellar first party software.. currently I see absolutely nothing to go crazy for..

CS73d ago

Nonsense.

PS1 and PS2 was built on great third party exclusives like FF, MGS, GTA & Tekken.

RonnySins4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Killing it my a$$! The 1st party is still MIA and no... Remakes and remasters don't count.

andy854d ago

I mean they literally do count. Imagine saying FF7 Rebirth doesn't count 😂

Tody_ZA4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Andy85 Don't forget the remakes for Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the best PlayStation games around!

And beyond PlayStation, what about Resident Evil 2 and 4? RonnySins wins the award for dumbest opinion!

raWfodog4d ago

Of course I love the games I’ve played from PS but I don’t believe we need to limit it to ‘exclusive’ to acknowledge that Xbox will be releasing some good games this year also. In that same vein, I believe that Xbox diehards shouldn’t limit their acknowledgment of good PS games to 1st party. There are plenty of good games to go around for everybody.

Tacoboto4d ago

This is a Playstation article about Playstation games and your comment is about Xbox. Can't you just celebrate what PS has without dragging this into console war BS?

ChasterMies4d ago

I don’t think Microsoft is releasing games exclusively on Xbox anymore. They have some timed exclusives that release on Xbox first.

Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.

GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.

But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.

Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.

SonyStyled4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Sony owns the Helldivers IP. The first was a PS3/Vita/PC game. It was never an Xbox game that they could ‘get’ a decade ago. I’m not sure what the upset is with Xbox here

CS73d ago

Lol, how do you ignore Rebirth one of the best games ever made?

anast4d ago

Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.

I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.

DaniMacYo4d ago

Helldivers 2 is exactly what gaming needed. I’m loving it.

The 7 Best Co-op Games on PS5

There's no better way to enjoy your PS5 than with friends, so here's our picks of the best co-op games on the console.

Cacabunga97d ago

For coop, get a used switch instead

jznrpg97d ago

I own a Switch and have never played co-op on it. I do play Elden Ring , Demons Souls and some other co/op games with my friends on PS5. Baldurs Gate 3 is the next game I’ll play co-op. Can’t do that on a Switch

Cacabunga96d ago

I was thinking for couch casual immediate fun.. not online coop games that require some adaptation.
