GT5 patch 1.05: Hidden changes revealed

Gamersmint: There were a lot of subtle changes when GT5 got its latest update which were not mentioned in the official log. We have the complete list below for you:

I just want people to know that since release of gt5 on the ps3 i have been playing day in and day out, i have lost interest in real life happennings, i have put on a stone in weight, i have started to neglect my loved ones, i have cancelled all the jobs i have had booked and have told all the customers due to snow i am unable to work, i need help. is there anybody out there who is in the same situation? i am 29 years old, what the hell am i doing? this is not me! i keep telling myself its just a game but it keeps calling me, calling me, off i go again............

Yeah, I understand your concerns.. gt5 ruined the end of my first semester.
Not only do I seem completely unable to stop playing at night/ in the early morning, I now find myself constantly figuring out excuses (apart from the snow) to skip lessons and delay work in order to have day-long gaming sessions. Once I get in the zone, that is when I stop 'playing a game' and start to feel G forces, the outside world ceases to exist for me.

I just hope that everything will change once I have beaten every endurance race and completed A-spec. For this reason alone, I stay away from racing online. I have enough addictions to deal with as it is..

This is a great patch. I noticed a diffrence in the online play and loading times. The thing that gets me is "better clutch support for G25/27 " Then why are my friends and I having troubles shifting into third all last night when we never had this problem before. Hopefully it was just the drinking and driving Lol... But three people with the same problem at the same time is whack

Me too, it's good news, now all I want is full G27 support so I can config all buttons, but thst doesn't look like happening if there is any truth in the rumors about PD fighting with Logitech over the G25/27 exploit to quick gear change, which supposedly Logitech denied to fix and the whole situation ended with Thrustmaster holding the right to make a GT licenced high end wheel...

well.. its not much of a real car without a clutch... at least to me.. im not a fan of automatic gbxD

now.. what we need is a way to bind the handbrake in the wheel
i just cant use it... im driving with no handbrake because its just to inconveniently positioned

i honestly didnt know that g27 had so many troubles with Gran turismo.. i bought it thinking it was the best choice

it still is the best steering wheel out there for what ive been told .. so i dont regret it.. i just hope this last problem is fixed

It's amusing you say that because I can mention a couple, actually more then a couple games with continuous good support. Rather then mentioning the game let me mention the devs... Guerrilla Games, Insomniac, Kojima, and of course Naughty Dog. Ironically those are all PS3 exclusive up until recently.

but NOT Kojima, or most likely more importantly...not Konami...

MGS4 shipped and the game was fine...but there were no updates for trophies or other features that became available after the game was released...But the game itself didn't need updating really, it was perfect at release...

MGO is an entirely different story though...and it was never fully fixed...but that was ALL konami, and further evidence of how the Japanese truly don't understand online gaming...

I still want to hear more about the Thrustmaster T500 wheel. But as far as the patch goes thank you Kaz and PD for realizing nowadays a game is never finished and more can always be added. I love the game but these little fix/patches are welcomed with open arms.

before, you had to exit that race and go back to it to be able to hit the green start flag

Yeah that's the best thing about the patch for me, i get around doing certain races lots of times for cash, and having to reload the race each time was a total pain.

Yeah, that's my biggest complaint with the game is the menu system. It's not very streamlined at all.

Forza, for instance, makes it very easy to find a race. If you're current car doesn't qualify, it sends you right to your garage and shows you the ones that do. And if you don't have any qualifying cars - and here's what GT needs to start doing - it will take you to the dealerships and show you just the cars that can compete.

The most annoying thing in GT for me is trying to make note of what cars qualify, then have to hunt through the dealerships. Half the time the car I need isn't even available to me yet.

GT has a button on the right hand corner, click it and it will take you to the garage and show only the eligible cars.

Taking you to the dealership is irrelevent, because the majority of races have no "limits" as such, but are affected by car types and it's up to you to match to that race... like, the classic car races allows any pre-79 car, but that includes things like, say, the Kubbelwagon and Ferrari Race Cars then it's up to you to see what the typical opponents are and see if you can compete, if you don't have the car or the credits, you do something else with a car you do have.

I'd say this is more an issue with Forza's linearity rather than GT's menus.

Yeah, those seasonal events are ridiculously hard. But even if you finish in like 6th place you'll still rake up tons of cash and points. But there is a catch, you can only gain rewards once unless you finish at a better position.

Actually they are very, very easy if you know what to do. You can get 2nd on all of them with stock cars and beat the 2nd car by like 10 seconds. The 1st car is always the real problem, but it just takes the right tuning.

Clutch and flywheel, and close-speed transmission upgrade, but fully customizable transmission for the Dodge Challenger and Nissan Skyline events. The Skyline one is the most about tuning, the rest are about having those basic upgrades, and a little bit of driver skill.

Gawd, the money and EXP given for those is insane though :O

I like the driving in the game. The physics feel great. But as a sim game, there are missing features that should be done WAY before superficial things like fixing light clusters or spelling thrustmaster correct. I'll just repeat what i've been saying since before these patches. This is a sim game. Not having these features are UNACCEPTABLE. I mean, tyre pressure. A simple thing like tyre pressure that can fine tune handling as well as help with tyre wear!! Name ONE sim that does not have this simple adjustment in the game, ONE! Its either they fix these issues or refrain from calling this game a hardcore sim.

1. Saving setups. I still have to use a notepad to write down all my setups for all my cars on all the circuits then enter them manually each time i take a car to a circuit. WHY CANT I JUST SAVE MY SETUPS AND LOAD THEM? Do they really expect the same setup to work for laguna and the ring?? the transmission has to change cause the rng has a much higher top speed. the suspension has to change cause the ring is much more bumpy. And i have to change these settings from track to track. I'm sick and tired of having to enter everything and write everything down. Why is there no save and load button like EVERY OTHER RACING GAME???!!!

2. No tyre pressure adjustment. It doesn't get more basic than that. This is such a crucial parameter for car performance and its not in the game.

3. No Caster adjustment? I can't even think of a reason they would leave this out. Every racing game since maybe 1996 has had caster settings in it. this is a crucial part of suspension tuning, its just stupid not to have it.

4. No asymmetrical tuning!!! This CRIPPLES NASCAR. Any idiot in the street will know you need postive camber on the left and negative camber on the right to get the maximum contact patch, its what they do in REAL LIFE, so why isn't it in the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR

5. No adjustment of individual gear ratios. Why can't i use a longer 4th gear at laguna like i am accustomed to?

6. No race liveries. have a look at real life spec miata racing. have a look at real life Ferrari challenge racing. Do you see any plain red miatas or plain blue ferraris? NO. They all have driver names, numbers, sponsors, etc. If we run a spec miata series in GT5 it will look NOTHING like real life. And it should, after all, this game is about simulating real life for crying out loud.

Why the disagrees? People like having to write down every setup parameter for every car and then putting in every single setup parameter manually for every track every time you go to it cause obviously different tracks require the car to be set up in different ways?

Then again this post is about tuning mainly, so if you don't know anything about tuning i guess you won't care. Not everyone is looking to this game as a race sim, some people just want to pick a car and drive, i can understand that.

But those of us who are car nuts and like to tinker with our cars in the game, this is crazy. Best physics on a console crippled by crappy tuning options.

And i'm not talking about the REALLY hardcore ones like brake cooling either. Although if you have F1 cars in the game PUT SOME BRAKE COOLING ADJUSTMENT IN....but anyways, i just want the full compliment of basics man. basics. The physics are begging for it.

I`m a huge fan of granturismo but i have to agree with you, i was expecting much more from a next gen racing sim. As a game it`s loads of fun but i was expecting a racing sim, that means it supposed to simulate real life racing. So lets see in real life you get random mechanical failures, not in gt5, punctures are very common, especially in open cockpit racing, not in gt5, car tuning and car set-up is very limited, flags!!!! in real life you wont be able to enter a race without knowing by heart all the flags, pace car not a necesity but would add to realism, damage does not resemble real life and i`m yet to find a racing event where some sort decals are not allowed.

And the positives, it looks unbelieveble, the cars handle very convincing and unlike most of the other racing sims i play, it never gets boring!! Is so much fun and so adictive, so i would score it 8.9 out of ten. A must have racing game but falls short of the next gen racing simulator i was expecting just like F3 did.

I believe that both of these are in the game. Get the fully customizable suspension, and you will be able to change these settings.

Asymmetrical tuning is the ability to tune the left side of the car and right side of the car differently. This is highly beneficial for NASCAR where you only turn left so you will want both sides leaning in the same direction. This can only be done by putting positive camber on one side and negative camber on the other. The game only allows you to adjust camber front and rear i.e. both left and right have the same camber, either positive or negative.This is not an option even with the fully adjustable suspension

Also, no caster adjustment is available. This separate to toe, anti-roll bar and camber. Its not in the game yet. Caster would allow a bit more flexibility with camber settings especially in terms of straight line stability.

Hopefully in version 1.06 we will get these features

I agree that GT5 is great...but, just like most racing games this generation, it definitely feels like it was dumbed down a little...I wish it expanded the series in both directions...make it easier for beginners...but make it have MORE depth than it used to for the hardcore...

Its sucks because the earlier GT games didn't have the physics down as well...where as fine tuning a car didn't always seem to work the way it would on paper (I remember literally bouncing a car around corners just from minor suspension adjustments)...yet now GT finally has the physics nailed down to a near flawless degree, but they gut out the more intricate tuning options...doesn't make sense...

Can anyone comment on how good the shadows have been improved and the pixelation. This is a seriously awesome update, this tops Naught Dog and Guerrilla Games for post-care. Sorry guys your games are good but PD takes the cake and rubs it into your faces when it comes to patching.

I just played and they are vastly improved. Maybe it's in my head I dunno. I did a few races but the shadows aren't jaggy nearly at all while racing with the Bugatti and Nissan Z i used. The bugatti had a little big of jaggies in the shadows but not super noticeable. i only did one race that started off the line and with the Bugatti and the shadows their were still awful. Also did night raining race, you can still notice the water a little bit, but it's a big improvement. I also kicked up dust on purpose and it's way improved.

If I could choose something to patch I'd go for being able to change the engine sound for your view. Best sound is the 3rd person view at the exhaust but I use the front bumper view. Would love To be able to get the pipe engine sound with the other view's

Reviewers should re-review or edit there reviews after a game patches something. Like the game Backbreaker, a lot of people didn't like it but they had a huge patch and it turned out to make the game almost 10x better.

So are you some sort of software engineer? I'm dubious because it's commonplace for world-class software companies to update their software post release with patches, bug fixes and improvements. Just saying, you sound a bit naive to make those types of assertions.

yes, i am a software engineer.

we update our software constantly - thats what 90% of our time is spent doing, making updates and improvements. but before we ship our product, we make sure that everything that was promised is there and that it all works as it should. like i said, if we released our product and then had to patch it with over 1gb of patches within 3 weeks, we would lose so many clients it wouldnt be funny. its our job to make sure that we deliver a quality product that works as stated and doesnt require constant large updates to get it to the level where it SHOULD have been before we released it.

GT5 was far from a finished product on release. its STILL far from a finished product. if it was finished, then damn, its a poor game. no mechanical damage, no matchmaking, horrible PS1 style shadows, no ability to remove HUD, no replay controls, no online xp/$ earning, no this, no that......if thats your definition of a finished game in 2010, i wouldve hated to see what you considered finished back in the day before consoles were connected to the internet.

I think our definition of a "finished" product are different. If you consider minor things like the ability to turn the HUD off/on a critical factor in GT5 being a finished product then we're at odds.

Given the scope of what GT5 is, it is a finished product. Adding features now is polish.

Although this mentality of releasing games knowing they can be patched this gen has been annoying it also has it's advantages.

It's nice to know a game I paid £35 for a month ago has given me hours and hours of playtime and it's looking like over time it will improve and get more content for no extra cost.

The thing the fanboys don't get about GT is the reason it isn't released every other year is because the people that play it know theres enough content to last them a few years till the next game.

Also so glad they added in the time/drift trails and leaderboards that will be changed every so often (although i'm miles on a decent place on the ladder :()

When you show me a racing game which has one car which is as good looking and as detailed as ANY of GT5's premium models, I'll agree with you.

But in my personal opinion, I'd rather have the option to drive over 1000 cars which all handle differently gameplay wise than just 200-400 cars which look nicer.
