"So far, our publishers have not elected to fund that work. Not because they hate PC Gamers, but because they don't see enough financial reward."

Translation: Piracy is more rampant on the PC than on consoles and it's not worth the effort.

Let's check out a new release, shall we?
Fallout: New Vegas was released on October 19. In the month of October, it generated 308,000 sales *on Steam alone*.

If you add retail and other download services this is in the ballpark of how many units were sold for the PS3.

So keep up the FUD please.

Never mind the fact, there is more profit on digital sales, since publishers dont need to pay for packaging costs or transport costs. Hence even only 300k sold on Steam it probably would be as profitable as selling 600k on console due to high margin of profits from DD.

tell that to Dice!! & they will laugh!!

DICE has said that so far, more people have been playing the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 than on the console.

"So far, our publishers have not elected to fund that work. Not because they hate PC Gamers, but because they don't see enough financial reward."

Translation:PC gamers expect to much!! The console kiddies will buy just about anything.

They just openly admitted that they don't make games out of passion!! enjoy your product..

They don't want to make pc ports because you need to invest huge time to make the game compatible for different systems at different resoloutions and graphic settings while on console its just one setting. And they can cut gamers throat by asking 10$ more for console versions.Less work, bigger money.Piracy is just an excuse. It never was a problem. Those who pirate would not buy the game anyway. So,they are not potential customers.Witcher, a new ip from a new dev sold 2 million copies.I wonder if the publishers are telling the truth about AAA titles' sale on pc!

imvix4898d ago

10usd extra is pure tax to Sony and Microsoft publisher gets nothing out of it.

PC games sell well. Rather optimizing for Console is a hassle due to limited resources. For PC even midrange hardware of today can pretty much handle anything, hence even if the dev doesnt use too many resouces on optimization the games run well. Notice how most games on console barely struggle to put out 30fps even when running in 720p or below, with PC they just have so much extra leg room.

no no no. Things are looked at on a per title basis. These games most likely wouldnt excite the pc crowd all that much, hence no pc version.

Also note how Half-Life sold 48,000 units (!) This game is 12 years old. Quality sells.

I just started a playthrough of it myself; it's been over 10 years since I played that game. And it supports 1920x1200.

They should publish on PC... those two games are PURE FUN, especially Costume Quest. OH god, I hope they release the expansion before X-mas!

uh oh...looks like the 2nd game flopped sales-wise. what a shame

MadLad294d ago

Psychonauts 2 has been the studios most profitable release, despite being on Gamepass, and a third title is already open and on the table when the time comes.
They wanted to do a big, new IP release coming into the acquisition being they would have funding they wouldn't have otherwise. That was obviously greenlit.

EvertonFC294d ago

He was always gonna make a new ip once MS bought them.
The correct dicision imo, comebk to P3 at a later date.

Muadiib294d ago

Much preferred the first game tbh, so not a huge loss.

I'm about 9 episodes into this and it's great. They've been recording it for long, long time, pre Kickstarter and Rhombus.

Looks like it's 33 episodes. Going to keep this, using All Video Downloader. 😊
