Rumor: Del Toro game will be trilogy, contain RPG-elements

TVGB: "Some more buzz about the THQ-helmed game being developed by film director Guillermo del Toro – a source has confirmed to MMOMFG that it’s not just one game, it’s three, and they will have RPG elements. In fact, the game will contain elements “along the lines of Mass Effect“, it’s said, which could imply branching dialogue options, morality, leveling, etc."

After some of the recent commercial failures (Enslaved/ Castlevania/ Rock Band 3) it may not be wise to look long term for a trilogy, but rather getting the first game to be a success.

Nevertheless, it sounds promising.

Quagmire4905d ago (Edited 4905d ago )

Those games you mentioned might not have sold as much, but they're quality titles, and TBH, i'd rather have a quality title which doesnt sell as much and most likely unable to sustain a franchise, than a crap game which sells like pancakes, and then having several rehashes every week.

CombineElite4905d ago

Announcing a Trilogy? This equals instant Doom.

I remember the last game that was announced as a trilogy, Advent Rising and that didn't work out so great. Just stick to the first game and make it very good.

Mass Effect was announced as a trilogy and is a commercial success.

DigitalRaptor4905d ago

Sounds very promising. But they should concentrate on the first game rather than a trilogy!

Silent Hill Game Awards Tease Was Meant To "Tickle The Ribs Of Konami," Del Toro Says

What makes sense to me is that much of what is Silent Hill is due to Keiichiro Toyama and Masahiro Ito. Not Del Toro, Not Kojima. I think the first crew did a great enough job telling that story/world/hell that you two jackoffs were so inspired and decided you needed to tell /re-tell it (and of course take credit for it).

tronyx12843d ago

Lol, you talk like PT never happened and they just said Silent Hill was always theirs.

How embarrassing .. i think you should edit your comment one more time or delete it.

People might be upset that the "jackoff" line is a bit far, but you make a fair point. This is Toyama's baby more than anyone else's.

If we're really be honest, SH2 was the best of the series for most players. I bet few people could even name the teams that developed all of the games past SH3 once Konami started whoring the series out to others.

Of all of the people and teams associated with SH, a lot of people seem to put Kojima and Del Toro at the top for whatever reason. They've had the least to do with this franchise of anyone before them. They didn't get to make even 1 full game.

I would have loved to see them actually turn the franchise around, but PT was 7+ years ago, and never amounted to anything else.

When the fans mention Silent Hill to Konami all they hear is that trumpet sound you hear in a Peanuts cartoon when the adults talk. I pretty much gave up on a new, remake, remaster SH game from Konami which is sad because the SH franchise is a great franchise. Sure there were some games that were bad but what franchise doesn't have the odd game that is bad. But Slitterhead has my interest now and I can't wait to play it.

pietro1212843d ago

I wished we got Silent Hills, but more preferably I wish Team Silent get back together for more more SH project. In the mean time I look forward to Slitterhead.

annoyedgamer843d ago

Hopefully Del Toro is on his game because his latest film Antlers ended like a massive dumpster fire.

ED-E842d ago

Del Toro didn't direct or wrote Antlers, he was one of three producers on it.

We alll know a new game is coming its just a matter of time, Konami would be idiots by not releasing a new Silent Hill game theres such a high demand for quality horror games these days

"Konami would be idiots by not releasing a new Silent Hill game theres such a high demand for quality horror games these days"

Let me introduce you to Konami... the company sitting on Silent Hill & Metal Gear Solid...

Eidolon843d ago

But we'll still get a silent hill pachinko game right? 🙏

Orchard843d ago

Definitely, and they’ll probably announce it like it’s an AAA remake like the Snake Eater pachinko.

Knightofelemia843d ago (Edited 843d ago )

All Konami does is milk anniversary editions like Contra and Castlevania add SH characters to Dead by Daylight make an SH pachinko machine so they can retain the name and characters. They released a soccer game that was well just shit like I said Konami is happy milking their older franchises and focus on pachinko machines. They managed to squeeze out Kojima and screwed him over. They don't care about the gaming world or SH if they did they wouldn't have gone out of their way to scrap the PT demo, pull the PT demo, and make sure the PT demo does not work on PS5. Konami has walked away from the fans that made them what they were on the NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, OG Xbox, PS3, XB360 days. I use to be a Konami fan but like them I walked away from Konami like they walked away from the gaming fans. And anything new about SH is just speculation or rumors which turn out to be a dead end. Capcom proved remakes can be done and still sell well with the RE2 remake. Fans are, or, were waiting for Konami to follow suit with an SH, remake, reboot, or a new game. But all you get from Konami's side of the fence is crickets chirping. Sitting there waiting for Konami to announce something new with SH is worse then sitting and watching paint dry.

Ok, not to dig up the past, but every-time I see Guillermo Del Toro’s name on a project the damn thing never gets released. Here’s hoping this one breaks the curse.

Godmars2901041d ago

Given he's - hopefully - only endorsing this, it's probably safe.

Death Stranding got released!

An intro to Biomutant

Alex & Mike talk Biomutant, a game from Experiment 101/THQ Nordiq you likely have not heard of. While the AAA side of the industry tends to homogenization and imitative, cinematic presentation, “AA” games remain creative and innovative in 2021. Drawing on inspirations as varied as Dark Souls, third person shooters & kung fu cinema, Biomutant is Ratchet & Clank on acid, developed by a team of 20 people.
