Call of Duty Black Ops PS3 version does NOT have Regional Matchmaking

Thanks to a recent twitt of David Vonderhaar the design director for Call of Duty: Black Ops, it has been confirmed that there wont be any regional matchmaking or regional search on the PS3 even though Treyarch and Activision confirmed this feature, and this feature will be exclusive to XBOX 360. All of this has even caused some raged over at the Call of Duty Boards.

To say "who cares I'll buy a different game" doesn't discount the fact that this is a disappointment for ps3 owners who want lag free games.

If you want the best version of Black Ops, at this point, I'd say pick it up for PC. Dedicated servers + server admins + kick/ban features.

Those COD guys are just MS fanboys that can't help but not ignore the gigantic and still growing install base of the ps3.

But who can realy blame them, lots of pro-XBOX devs have gone multiplat due to the massive PS3 install base.

Anyways, PS3 owners realy shouldn't get all bent up over this, there are way too many great multiplats and kickass exclusives coming to the ps3 for ppl get all riled up for another yearly rehashed COD game.

Yeah it might sound like an excuse but it is nice meeting people faraway just for the experience. I met my best friend because a lack of regional matchmaking. Seriously, my life turned for the better cause R6 Vegas allowed two people from across the country to play with each other.

But still, a lot of the features that were really kinda cool aren't in the PS3 version, the version I'm getting. I can't really find myself to care personally but somewhere out there, someone does. Sucks for them.

I'm happy with this feature cos I live in Asia so there's more chances of me getting into a game quickly. For example, if you live in Asia and you own an Xbox 360, the majority of players which lives in North America and Europe will try to block you from joining their game. I actually feel sorry for the Xbox 360 users in Asia now. Buy a PS3 guys. Faster for you to join a game!

There has to be a reason why this was cut, it could be something to do with the different way the PS3 matchmakes, or something internal at Sony that prevented it from going through.

At this point, who knows, but they are giving literally everything else to PS3 that the 360 gets. It seems odd to exclude such a feature for no reason.

It doesn't matter if regional matchmaking is available or not: the real issue is whether the PS3 will have laggy games or not. IF the PS3 doesn't have laggy games, then all that means is that the PS3 can handle worldwide games without sacrificing quality. If not, THEN you will have to question the dev's reason as to why they did that.

lets be honest here... if your in the USA you are very unlikely to ever come across a foreign hosted game. Europe chances are still slim...since the PS3 has a massive install base there i doubt it will be a problem.

The feature is really only useful if your Aussie or Kiwi. Our internet due to latency issues is at the best dog shit compared to the rest of the world. I personally have a 100mbps down and 2.5mbps upload connection (which i do pull host with 90% of the time) but even with speeds like that i can hardly get a good connection from Japan... it says its in the green but really its more a light yellow.

However i have once gotten a light green connection to a San Fransisco based host... was tolerable until he quit then i got host.

If you have a good internet connection you will most likely get host.
As long as the matchmaking is not the same as MW2 it should be pretty good, When I had MW2 on ps3 I got host most of the time and gave most people in Eurpoe and USA a 3 bar easily. (Im in England UK).
Its not the biggest thing, most people wont even notice about the connection. Many are casuals playing with friends for fun.
If you get into a laggy game theres not much that can be done.

I didn't mind that the split-screen online was nurfed a little. Hell, I put that out of my mind thinking "look at all the other options they have". Well now I'm adequately pissed off if this is true. Most of my friends don't have a Pc capable of gaming and I've been playing online console games on my ps3 since all my friends have a ps3 and online is free. I'm very happy for 360 owners that they get a nice feature that will provide some good lag-free multiplayer match, but PS3 owners are losing some nice feature out there.

activision did MS gave you 1 million dollars to have this "exclusve features" on the xbox 360 alone , you know activision that your going to loose way more money by screwing with ps3 gamers right? it is not only on how much the gamecompany is going to pay you, is the consumers sure you have the xbox 360 gamers happy but why screw the ps3 gamers, why not just make it exclusive to xbox in the first place? if you continue this up you guys are going to loose fans why cause then less are going to buy the xbox version, and those on xbox who camp cause they pass from halo games are going to annoy the run and gun guys, trying to buy the ps3 game but dont have the same features ending up not playing at all, loosing all trust on the consumer, who the hell is your consultant for this crap yo?

Being a kiwi, i pretty much rely on this feature for any chance of a decent connection so activision just lost a sale.
Not that it'll make a difference seeing as microsoft wouldve payed a bucket load for exclusive rights to regional matchmaking so i hope all those money grubbing scum at activision have fun wasting their newfound income on cocaine and $20 hookers

I don't see a reason to be upset by this, you have to figure, the 360 is hindered by LAG on far greater levels than that of the PS3. So in order to combat that, Activision gave the 360 version the ability to narrow down how far away the people are you are playing with. So if anything, PS3 fans, take this as a mild compliment. I don't think this is a 'MS paid for' case, but an attempt for the developers, to ensure an equal playing experience across all platforms. I do agree however, it is funny that they wouldn't include the feature on both systems, but as previously stated, there must be a need for it on the 360 console.

Doesn't matter... Players in the same town, city or regional doesn't all even have the best internet so you're still going to have games with lag. Plus I love getting curse out in another language for doing what I do best...
