We all know that a system needs good games to sell well. But if you want your system to really light up the charts, you need to take the bad with the good.
Toyohashi, Japan is set to host a large-scale Monster Hunter event to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary, complete with themed hotel accommodations.
Clive actor Ben Starr plays kiss, marry, kill with Final Fantasy characters, and decides to off Cid from Final Fantasy 12.
Ew VO actors and their cringe core. Fiverr voice actors could out perform this chump.
Acquire, famous for games like Tenchu and Octopath Traveler, becomes KADOKAWA subsidiary. Can this mean a revival for beloved series?
I would kill to have a Way of the Samurai game with a huge budget and modern tech... The first game was one of my greatest joys on PS2 back in the day. And I really hope From Software will do something with Tenchu... I hate that they're just sitting on the IP like it doesn't even exist.
Tenchu would be superb in this day and age. Ninja and samurai games are hot right now and more is better.
I can't think of one shovelware title I've bought for the PS3. Some fairly crappy games, yes (like Kya: Dark Lineage) but no real shovelware.
"Camers",(or casual gamers if you will) play an important role in the gaming industry.
You can play the "Hardcore" card all you want, but its the not-so-hardcore software that actually sells(Just Dance,Wii Sports,Wii Sports Resort,Wii Play,Mario Kart Wii, Wii Party...).
I don't think that's it. Sony just had most of the developers on their side. I mean with Dreamcast gone and Nintendo lower in the ranks who else were they supposed to develop for? Even when the Xbox came out the fanbase was so huge on the PS2 plus the developers were used to working with the PS2.So I think the secret to the Ps2's longevity I believe is that many new gamers have not experienced the PS2 and the numerous titles that exist. When they hear about them they are curious and want to see games like GOW, FF and MGS 3 the games that came before the modern versions. I think this assumption that PS2 only survives because of shovelware is just wild speculation.
Secret to Playstation 2's longevity?
SUPPORT
nintendo dropped gamecube.microsoft dropped xbox.sony continued SUPPORT for 10 years or more like ps1.
it's called SUPPORT.if it's still SELLING,let it LIVE.it's not like the others saying,"buy our new system or you get no more games."like xbox and gamecube.....
sony said,"upgrade when you're ready.""we'll still be here to SUPPORT you even when PS4 comes out.
The PS2 was the best console ever at it's prime. Period.
It was over 10x times better than the first Playstation. Like Apocalypse said, then it was all about support. Sony has always been one for quality, and they got quality developers and then made...quality games! The PS2 only did the best.
When people saw this cheap, quality console, it sold like hotcakes. Much like the PS3 will sell both now and next year. The n4g article will generate quite a bit of heat the day PS3 sales overtake Xbox.
