SEGA Encouraged By Vanquish Sales

IGN - Vanquish, the new sci-fi shooter from Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami, is off to a pretty good start. Mike Hayes, President and CEO of SEGA West told IGN the company is "reasonably encouraged" by the first-day U.S. sales.

"It's been in the marketplace for two days, we've seen the day one numbers and we're reasonably encouraged, but I think we need to see the rest of week one and probably week two just to see how it's going to play out," he said.

"The challenge is that it's a new franchise and that it's releasing head-to-head with a lot of established franchises in the busiest time of the year."

I'm assuming it sold okay/well in America?

Now THAT'S a surprise! Although I feel many people who wanted it already got it Day 1, and those people who are somewhat interested in it will wait for a price drop or something.

I'm quite sure sales will be lower than Bayonetta in Japan, since those guys don't like Westaboo games, but hell, I hope it sells somewhat good enough.

Ah well, I'm still enjoying the game, so I guess that's all that counts.

Paracelsus4920d ago

They probably had very low expectations. Either that, or the US sales really made up for the bomba in the rest of the world.

tacosRcool4920d ago

Well the scores were pretty good for this game but I doubt that many people will buy it

Baka-akaB4920d ago

The game probably didnt cost as much as we believe also .
I think it's a huge factor .

Anyway i was worried for the prospect of a sequel , but looks like all is good again in this depressing world

Neckbear4920d ago (Edited 4920d ago )

@Paracelsus

Indeed, my guess is that SEGA didn't had SUPER-HIGH-HOLY-GOD-THIS-MUST- SELL-4-MILLION-COPIES expectations.

@tacosRcool

I doubt it, as well, mainly because the game's something we didn't see in a while. Hard-as-hell- arcade-like gameplay in a third person shooter? I don't think kids like getting their ass kicked.

@Baka-akaB

Yes, that is right. The game probably didn't cost ALOT of money to make, since Platinum has their magic engine that god-knows-from-where they took it (Or rather, they developed it themselves), and after that it's just inside work on dialog, coding and polishing, wich makes me believe the game didn't costed that much to make, and thus, they don't need much sales.

Besides, I'm quite sure than when SEGA heard about this project they knew it'd be hard to give them a big as hell budget, so my guess is they got a low/mid budget to work on.

@TreMillz

I've stated that I (personally) dislike Multiplayer games, so I'd rather them do the same again for a sequel (If we have one), wich is polishing the single player and game mechanics, and just simply not making Multiplayer.

That's just me, though. I'm quite sure alot of people would enjoy the game if it had Multiplayer.

TreMillz4920d ago

Sega knows that shooters excell of its multiplayer and this game has none so they probably didnt think it would do wonders, but i hope a sequel comes out with MP and co-op

The game is sick! Action packed, fast paced, Amazing! Gives Gears a run for its money IMO

soundslike4920d ago

honestly its more comparable to geometry wars than gears (I don't mean in a negative way haha).

dredgewalker4920d ago

I gave it a chance but my brother is hogging up the game!! It looks good but the script is really awful and cheesy. The action is intense and has a faster framerate compared to the demo.

NoBias4920d ago

Yeah the game is amazing. I also recommend playing the game they way it was intended - with Japanese Voices.

Epic

mcstorm4920d ago

This game dose look amazing gears on speed. I think it will do ok on the 360 as no gears until the end of next year and I also think it will do well on the ps3 as it has not got much first party action games left before the end of the year. I'm not getting the game until next year though as I have far too many new games to finish off as well as fable on Friday but will defo be getting the game some point in the first 3 months of next year

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake3d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

OtterX3d ago

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

Friendlygamer3d ago

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils3d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

jznrpg3d ago

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything

Titan fall 2 was chefs kiss. For those of you who haven't played it go ahead. Brilliant. With each level being creatively different.

Island, Steins;Gate Elite and Soma.

MadLad316d ago

Soma is an epic experience.

jznrpg316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

Does ISLAND have English subs ? I can’t find a copy that says it has English subs for PS only the Switch version which I rather not buy .

Love Steins Gate and Soma

shinoff2183316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

FRom what i could find. Nothing with English subs.

Yui_Suzumiya315d ago

I own a physical copy on Switch and it does have English subtitles so it's all good on Switch and Playstation.

Yui_Suzumiya315d ago (Edited 315d ago )

My bad. Steam and Switch have English but PS4 and Vita only have Japanese. Sony doesn't mess with many visual novels which is why I only own a Switch OLED and laptop for all my games.

Actually great list TBH I agree with all 10

I hope one day we get some remakes for the following

The saboteur(with a proper remake and quality of life features this game could be great)
Scarface world is yours
Binary domain ( such a great game with great story)
GUN(this needs a remake)
Space marine 40k(such fun time)

Would also like to suggest adding the mercenary series even the 2nd game which is disliked by many is a fun time

cthulhucultist351d ago

I recently finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and found it to be very enjoyable.

The game respected the lore and the gameplay was quite decent.

The color palette was a bit underwhelming (backdrops and setting) and recycled but I think that it deserved better.

Here's hoping for an amazing sequel
