Few examples, however, comprise MGS(1-4), BioShock, Halo 1-3 as a whole.

I'm not sure there's much real "Romance" in Bioshock. The first game had Diane McClintock, but both of those ended rather badly.

Maybe you've not been a member of N4G long, have you? Actual 'news' is almost non-existent on this site.

From time to time, something that actually resembles news will be posted (companies merge, company breaks up, new game announced, beta info, leaked footage, etc).

But odds are if you click any random article, it'll be filed under opinion piece; which, by definition, is not news. Even if it is not filed under opinion piece, it likely is an opinion piece.

There are quite a few that I think that I like more. Off the top of my head I really like Nate and Elena from Uncharted-mostly because they seem natural and have funny banter.

*SPOILERS* (but is from FF7, so you should probably have played it by now)

And I also disagree with Cloud and Aeris. This is the subject of many a debate, but Cloud and Tifa are, in my opinion much better. Aeris annoyed me and I never brought her with me. So I did not really care when she died. Tifa kicked butt and was cool. And saved Cloud and various other things.

And it does not matter anymore because she died so he should just deal with it. He can not really do anything about it now.

after the events of FFVII start to occur and Aries/Zack were a true couple for the FFVII universe, seeing how she comforted zack as he cried. Also she knew exactly when died.......CC ending was very well done

I agree with Nate and Elena,they are one of my favorite power couples.

Totally disagree about Aeris. I hate it when someone says someone is annoying with no possible basis for it. She didn't talk in FFVII so it can't be her voice. She does nothing but help Cloud get over the girl who never gave him the time of day(Tifa), Aeris was way too good for him and almost eerily seemed to be exactly what he needed/wanted. It wasn't until after he had found love in someone else and lost it did Tifa realize her true feelings for Cloud.

Don't get me wrong, Tifa kicks ass! Yet Aeris was just as cool. How awesome is it having a girlfriend who is one with the planet and can save your skinny ass anytime you are in REAL trouble? thats Aeris for you :)

It's a list and he likes a bit of FF and even as a bit of a fan I usually find the romances in FF games a little OTT(I could have killed Snow at any given moment in FF13 for being such a soppy nobhead about his crystallised bird!)for my liking, or belief!

The MC/Cortana thing is a bit of an odd one, though, seeing as she isn't, like, real for him to, erm, interface with.Silent Hill2 I can agree with, mind.

Personally, I like the unfinished sexual tension between Ada Wong and LS Kennedy in the RE series(esp in RE4)for video gaming stories it's really quite subtle and especially for Resi!

More recently I thought the romantic too and fro between Nate Drake, Elena Fisher and Chloe was pretty well done and I liked the way it worked out as well having developed a soft spot for little Elena in the first game!

Anyway, we'll definitely see more, and better, and more well developed romances and relationships in gaming as storytelling matures in the medium. Complex ones(like the MC/Cortana and Ada/Leon ones)will get more fleshed out and we'll start seeing both gay and lesbian and bi-sexual couples making their way into games as they did into literature and films soon enough as the medium grows as a mirror for society too. Should be interesting to see the medium's bravery and depth grow before us.

Kyle Madigan and Aya? :( There was barely any "romance" between them. Sure Aya seems to be really interested but.. but.. IDK.. didn't really shatter the "ice queen" thingy. Why is she an "ice queen" in the first place?

James always loved his wife. The whole point of SH2 was to look for his wife. Mary somehow got sick and had very little time left to live. The illness took its toll on her, in which she lashed out at James (remember the hallway scene).

James, tired of seeing his wife in pain and for selfish reasons, decided to put her out of her misery. Even though he killed her, he still cared for her. James hated himself for what he did so badly that he wanted to be punished. Silent Hill became James' own purgatory, a physical manifestation of all his pain and repressed desires where he will constantly be reminded of his darkest secret... Killing the only person he ever loved. Now tell me that isnt tragic.

The best relationships are a combination of both good and bad, light and dark, sweet and bittersweet.

Final Fantasy X-2

Ok, I know it's sort of a weak side-story but the story of Shuyin and Lenne the songstress was both beautiful and tragic.

Remember that concert in the rain ("1000 Words" theme playing) where we see Lenne's memories and both she and Shuyin get cornered and gunned down by soldiers? That was poignant. :(

While the story as a whole is bit convoluted for my tastes. None the less, it's one of the greatest love stories told in a videogame.

Anyone you has beating the game can tell you that.

Also I'll admit, the first time I beat the game and seeing the ending scene. I was genuinely happy for them that they where finally able to be together and be happy.

The ending theme was also fantastic and tear jerking.
