9 Video Game Easter Eggs That Took Years to Find

Cracked: "Video game Easter eggs are fun extras for the fans and are usually even easier to find than the real thing--they might demand 10,000 coins, but you never need to stand up. But some of these little secrets, cheats or glitches are so well-hidden they stay out of sight for years, even with millions of gamers exploring every nook and cranny of the game world. For instance..."

Pay attention: this is an example of a Top list that doesn't suck like all the garbage produced by Now Gamer and Examiner.

Cracked is a solid website. they contain both humor AND informative articles. not everything is good but there's a lot of selection.

I found the Wave Race one interesting. The golden eye island I had seen before but completely forgot about it! those things always trip me out!

great article, as usually by cracked =)

Cracked is friggin awesome. They're the only site to do top *insert number* lists right, and on just about every subject out there. Seriously, if any of you guys haven't bookmarked them, do it now.

Factor 5 burying an unlockable Naboo Starfighter in the original Rogue Squadron for the N64 still ranks up there as one of the greatest Easter Eggs of all time IMO.

Ive done the RE2 one before, I read it in a magazine back in the day.

Most people dont know about the real ending af RE2 which you have to play 2 times as each characters to see. RE2 is my favorite RE ever. Such a good game with two different characters who view the same situation from a different angle.

Also each have a different 2nd playthough. Mr. X chases you, hes like nemisis without guns. It was way scary as youve already played the game once and never expect this huge guy to burst through the wall.

I remember the GE one but I think you needed a game shark/genie to get there. you could look at it tho.

NewsForMe4946d ago

I wish modern games would take notes on the older. Stuff that the old RE games did added so much to the game. It would even fit in with everyone's achievement whoring personality.

Who actually finds all these glitches btw? It can't be people with too much time on their hands because some of them are so obscure. It must be devs who tell people and then by word of mouth it spreads and more people find it. No way someone could find these without being told.

One I've encountered recently is the stars on braid. I thought I'd done it all after getting all the trophies until someone told me theres also the stars to collect. Some of them are very obscure to find.

Metal Gear Solid (PS1) has an easter egg that I recently found out on youtube.

When you get to the field where you face Sniper Wolf. If you go all the way to the left and go first person view, you can see Liquid Snakes parachute. If you call Campbell you'll have a conversation about the posibility if Liquid survived.

Theonik4946d ago

That one is so obvious. You should be ashamed you didn't find it yourself D:<

"Eidos' marketing team slowly went insane as their incredible viral marketing stunt went undiscovered (the secret room promoted the game's sequel, Arkham City) and eventually just phoned a game site and told them how to do it"

LOL, that's kind of sad. Easter Eggs are meant to be fun surprises.

Very fun article. I always love a see a dev hide a little gem into the game. The fact that these took so long to be found on enhances the satisfaction of knowing they are there.

ForceCSW4946d ago

that a weapons crate in borderlands remains undiscovered. That should definitely make it in the next time someone makes a list like this.

coolbeans4946d ago

You could play as the Duck? I must try this.

despair4946d ago

yea I remember my brother playing the duck and annoying the hell out of me when I try to shoot him. In his defense I was a crappy shot.

dgroundwater4946d ago (Edited 4946d ago )

"sadly, the only three people who play with the audio options screen are the guy who programmed it, the guy testing it, and the guy who doesn't exist."

I am pretty picky about music and sfx balance so I check this menu before every damn game/demo I play. I don't exist :(

EskiJoe4946d ago

I think they meant "play" as in trying out different codes in the sound menu. From my understanding, you had to enter a variation of the konami code while holding the Z button in order to unlock the other speaker.

dgroundwater4946d ago

Oh. Yeah you're probably right.

DaBadGuy4946d ago

Well fuck me running, you can play as the duck in Duck Hunt. You are both the hunter and the hunted. Whooooaaaa.
