Gran Turismo's Visual Evolution (RunDLC)

Like most PlayStation 3 owners, we can’t wait for Gran Turismo 5. Polyphony Digital’s long-awaited masterpiece boasts well over 900 cars, a wealth of tracks, full damage modeling and plenty of other drool worthy features. Of course, this year marks the series’ 12th anniversary, so we went back to see how the franchise has evolved graphically, from the first Gran Turismo in 1998 to this year’s near photo realistic monster. Enjoy.

So have we all. My graphics have changed significantly. Seriously tho...it's a great looking franchise.

I still remember back then when GT1 came out and was going crazy in my living room about the graphics like "OMJIZZAMIGA LOOK AT TEH UBERNESS!!" lol

Hey, back then, it was "teh omjizzamiga" though.

Scary food for thought:
You look at the difference from GT3 to GT4.. then you look at the insanity of GT5 and think "oh hell, GT6 is going to be to GT5 what GT4 was to GT3?"

... yup, insanity. Great times ahead for PS3 gamers.

i never really played gt4 back then but i played it last year at a friends place and i was shocked that gt4 had hd resolution even back then.

to be brutally honest from what i saw and played on his hdtv not only does gt4 have more cars, features and authentic tracks than forza3 but it actually looks better. i was shocked

all this time i see comparisons of forza3 to gt5 and the real truth is forza3 is bearly catching up to gt4. dont take my word for it just go play gt4 on hdtv

madness

gradually making their games play and look better on each installment of the series. I wish there are more developers out there who would do the same thing instead of claiming their game is this type of game just so they can make a low quality game and sell like hot cakes.

used to suffer from a serious lack of sense of speed of which i never noticed up until now. Just gos to show how great the games were. Gt3 a spec is still my faviroute

Chubear, yeah was amazing to look at and play.

GT1, I never had a PS2, but even so those graphics are quite and improvment from GT3-4 etc.

Newer video are looking mighty tasty and i cannot wait for this game.

I'm not a huge racing fan, but I did get GT3 for my PS2. Seeing GT5 now ... it's almost like night and day. I mean, in the forums, folks have GIFs of the game in their signatures, and I struggle to tell if that's real life or the game itself.

Polyphony Digital should be congratulated, they have truly created a masterpiece, and to date, they are one of the only Devs I know who have truly come the closest to Gaming's Holy Grail, Photo-Realism. I know earlier, they took a lot of slack about the delays, but if you look at the finished product, it is WORTH it. I like the Forza Motorsports franchise, and I'd say that it should come in at a close second, but Gran Turismo 5 is the Definitive Racing Simulator this generation, and NO ONE should ever forget that.

Gt4 looked fantastic for a last gen game, but it lost the fun and simplicity that made GT3 great.

DigitalAnalog4954d ago

Same case with GT2. I mean, look at the all the features GT5 has RIGHT NOW. What can GT6 do to top it? Adding Helicopters?

-End statement

they could only improve on the games modes. like more f1 cars and tracks, more rally cars and tracks

no gt has ever been simple, its a complex and rewarding beast.
