Anyone want to work for Activision?

Christopher4950d ago (Edited 4950d ago )

They're both not that great considering they both have a policy for the majority of their annual and movie-based IPs to quickly put something together and shove it out the door. Both also have some company departments, typically managed by those who have partnered with EA or Activision, that are great departments to work for and fight for the best games possible with the most flexible schedules they can get to improve each new game they develop.

I don't think I'd base it on wanting to work for either of them so much as working on specific IPs head by specific persons. BioWare would be an awesome company to work with, but if I was forced to work on Madden or some random IP for a movie release, I'd decline immediately unless I had no other choice.

PSFan1004950d ago

@Kotick
I'd work at EA, therefore you've just lied to everyone. Again.

karl4950d ago

are u kidding?

EA is miles better than Activision

how many cod games are out there? six? maybe seven i dont know but i know they dont improve shit...

EA brought Mirrors edge and dead space...

two new and awesome ips... as far as i know ... EA likes to innovate

sunnygrg4950d ago

after the bod's let go of this sob.

gamingdroid4950d ago (Edited 4950d ago )

I find it funny that the industry (or should I say gamers) just loves to hate. Previously it was EA who was the devil, now it is a new flavor called Activision.

What is the flavor next year guys?

Get over it!

karl4950d ago

@gamingdroid

dont be silly

the only unreasonable hate is beetween sony and MS fanboys

if activision would just do things as they should.. get rid of kotick and bring some new good games we wouldnt hate them so much...

EA learn the lesson and came back better than ever....

Activision needs to fail big time so maybe then they will get it...

sadly they are being kept alive by WOW and COD..

The only good dev left at Activision is Blizzard. EA at least has Bioware, EA Redwood (Dead Space), Valve, Crytek, DICE, etc (yes I know some of these are publishing deals and not in-house devs).

What does Activision have besides Blizz? And don't tell me the Guitar Hero series. And so far, the only good Treyarch developed (from ground up) game I've seen is Ultimate Spiderman. Everything else seems to be ports and mods.

p.s. E4G needs a spell checker or take writing classes. Kotick is on a "roll".. not a "role".

Elven64950d ago

How about,

Bizzare Creations
FreeStyle
HighMoon
Radical
Raven
Demon Ware (they do middleware)

And for EA you can't list developers like Valve or CryTek, they are independent meaning they have no relation to EA or anyone. Both of those companies have their games published by others too.

Treyarch has made some great games in the past, Call of Duty 3 was made in what, 8 months? That means they made an entire engine, storyline (with multiple characters), multiplayer mode, etc in such a short time span on multiple consoles. Show me any other developer who can do that. World at War was good as well and Black Ops seems to be innovating the series.

And before anyone goes on with that reskin bull, with Call of Duty 3 Treyarch made a storyline that actually gave character some emotion and back story, the multiplayer took more skill due to the introduction of classes, and the map packs were really cheap, pretty much $1 per map. Despite this, people hate it, they found any excuse they could to do so. With World at War they stuck with the Call of Duty 4 formula but added their own elements to things like the storyline.

People still hated it, Treyarch simply can't win despite always delivering on a good or great game.

siyrobbo4950d ago

but activision don't seem to care about any of their companies

raven are extremely talented developers, singularity is a great game which activision left to die, they didn't support it at all, yet yearly cod's get a massive marketing spend when the name alone guarantees profit

likedamaster4950d ago (Edited 4950d ago )

"That means they made an entire engine."

-Negative. They used the COD2 engine(by IW), look it up. They did the same with World At War and now MW2's updated engine(with data streaming) for BlackOps. They've never really made their own engine. Not hating on Treyarch, they're quite competent, but just saying...

outrageous4950d ago

Kotick is just stating the facts. The two bone heads running Infinity Ward got greedy and wanted to make there own COD and leave Activision with the franchise for EA...lol...NOT gonna happen.

EA has struggled of late with great games that haven't sold very well. So now they run around and steal all the talent they can and copy the top selling games from other publishers...Buisness as usual in the gaming world. Sledgehammer over at Activision are the original creaters of Deadspace...there making an action/adventure COD game for release in 2011...see how that works...:D

Neither one of these two powerhouses are and better than the other. If your a dev, then invest in a good lawyer to go over the fine print with either of these guys BEFORE signing anything.

Shuklar4950d ago

God forbid that people want to make the majority of the profit for something they created. Wouldn't you?

LastDance4950d ago (Edited 4950d ago )

If we all pool in our money, we can hire a decent assassin. Who's keen?

I am thinking about trying to become a game programmer and I would rather work at EA after hearing about the situation with Infinity Ward. I actually don't know what went down between Activision and IW, none of us do, but I would prefer to stay away from that sort of thing if I could.

Elven64950d ago

The matter hasn't been resolved yet and everything both sides have said in regards to Activision/IW is simply rumor and speculation.

EA isn't a walk in the park either. They have their issues as well, EA Wives comes to mind. Despite these bumps, both companies still take pretty good care of their employees.

I'd work for either to get my foot in the door, both names would look great on a resume regardless.

Hitman07694950d ago

Wow Kotick has a lot of crap to say. What is it next? No one wants to work at Google. No one wants to work at Microsoft. No one wants to work at Sony. No one wants to work at Activision. No one wants to work.

Paying Extra For Early Access Cannot Be The Industry Norm

Charging for early access has started to become a regular practice in several AAA games, and the gaming community should not tolerate this.

CrimsonWing699h ago

Don’t uh… don’t pay for it then? 🤷‍♂️ It’s 3 days early, let people who can’t wait pony up to pay for early access. I’d hope people have more control over themselves if they don’t want to pay extra. I personally, do not see an issue with the option. If I’m hyped for a game and they give you early access, I’ll pay. If it’s something I can wait to play on “actual release” I won’t pay extra. It’s as simple as that.

Crows909h ago

Except your entirely mistaken if you think it's "early access"

Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible.

Obscure_Observer8h ago

"Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible."

Not really.

In some cases, paying for early access will grant you access to play those games at the same time media outlets and reviewers are playing their copies.

Besides, it´s a single player game. It´s not like early access to MP competitive games like Battlefield which EA would grant a full week early access to those willing to pay; which gives a unfair advantage to those gamers and breaks the game´s balance.

CrimsonWing697h ago

are you playing it earlier than retail release?

If that’s the correct answer, how is it not early access?

Crows909h ago

It's not early access...it's playing on release...early access is when the game isn't finished and needs a little more time...you also get it months in advance.

Let's not get confused here..

Andrew3366h ago

You get access to the game before it goes live for people who purchased the standard version of the game... thus you are getting early access.

Crows905h ago

Nope...you get access to the game the day it goes live. Those who didn't pay extra are blocked from accessing it as a punishment for not paying full price

VersusDMC9h ago

Microsoft has been doing premium edition early access for awhile(Forza and Starfield recently) ...so why is it an issue now when Ubisoft does it?

It can't be the gamepass excuse as Ubisoft has day one subscriptions as well.

Obscure_Observer8h ago

I´ve paid for Starfield´s Premium Edition to get early access to the game, plus Shattered Space expansion.

I don´t regret my decision and I mighty pay for it again to get early access to Fable and TESVI.

Andrew3366h ago

@VincentVanBro yea like the kind of idiots who worry about how adults spend their money.

Crows905h ago

@andrew

Just like the kind of idiots who get scammed and don't realize it.

Andrew3362h ago

@crows do you understand what the word scam means? Choosing to pay more money to play a game before other people is not being scammed.

gold_drake7h ago

as long as people are paying for it, it will be a thing unfortunately.

the fear of missing out is ... huge. especially online.

CrimsonWing697h ago

I don’t think it’s about missing out. Think of it like a movie you’re hyped for. You can see it early if you pay extra or just wait until Friday when it officially releases.

It’s nothing more than that.

Crows905h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Nope. You're not seeing it early. Everyone else is seeing it late.

When a product releases to the public...that's the release date. If they company then chooses to block access to the product unless you pay extra...that's not early access...that's day 1 access.

CrimsonWing693h ago(Edited 3h ago)

@Crows90

No, there’s a public release date and an early release date. Just like with movies having early screenings and then public screenings.

They let the public know the release date and then give people an option to play early by paying more.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Reportedly Sold About Half of What FF7 Remake Did in the Same Timeframe

The acclaimed open world action RPG is "underperforming" where its sales are concerned, according to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad.

“Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Reportedly Sold About Half of What FF7 Remake Did in the Same Timeframe”

Makes sense to me since the current PS5 base is about half of what the PS4 base was when FFVII Remake released.

There were about 113 million PS4’s in consumers hands worldwide in 2020 when FFVII Remake was released (towards the beginning of COVID lockdown no less).

PS5 sales currently sits at about half of that (50-something million. We are not in COVID lockdown so many people are not as bored as they were 4 years ago and not in a rush to buy every video game coming out at release. Some PS4 owners may not have upgraded to PS5 yet and therefore can’t buy the sequel yet. And, of course, some who played Remake just might not be interested in Rebirth.

It just seems pretty disingenuous for an analyst to ‘analyze’ a situation when there are so many mitigating and unequal factors involved.

OtterX3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Yes, this and also finishing part 1 of the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy weighs heavily on it too. There's always a huge percentage of gamers who never finish the games they purchase. It's not always due to lack of enjoyment, but also life priorities etc. But factor that into the knowledge that Rebirth is a straight continuation of the story, and enjoyment lies heavily on having finished the first, you can begin to understand why not as many players jumped in. But absolutely too, the lesser install base of the PS5 played a huge role!

jjb19812d ago

I started the game when it came out, played about 2/3 of the way through and finished the rest in the last month before rebirth came out. There are just too many games and too much adulting to do.

Eonjay2d ago

It sold about half... with about half as many PS5s available as PS4 had when it launched in 2020. So... the tie ratio is about the same. As PS5s continue to sale it should eventually match Remake. It's a really good game.

fr0sty2d ago

I think there's going to be another wave of buyers that purchase the game once the third part of the trilogy is released, especially if they release it as a bundle.

@raWfodog You'd think an analyst would catch these facts, but just goes to show what gaming analysts are made of. We've only in the last year moved to PS5 only games, in addition to the install base cross-gen has been around for years. There are a lot of PS4 players still over there. It's amazing when people compare things whilst isolating all the significant facts.

And Rebirth being a direct sequel is also valid: anecdotally, I've just started FF7 Remake a week ago and I'm loving it, on Chapter 8, but I'm obviously not going to buy Rebirth until I complete the story which will take time.

Ironmike2d ago

But it's hasn't sold as much the articles om Google stating bit so what if it hasn't the game is still great better than remake which tailed of in middle-of-the- game

TheEroica2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Apologists always know what to say... 👍
Is it possible to squeeze in one more excuses for FF7 sales? Go for it!

Tody_ZA2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@TheEroica Understand the meaning of the words you use or don't use them. An apologist argues in defense of something controversial or problematic. Pointing out relevant facts that an analysis or article did not take into account is constructive feedback and discussion. There are great movies, games and other forms of art that don't sell as expected, but later gain financial success.

Example? The Godfather Part 2 underperformed financially compared to its predecessor but is widely hailed as one of the greatest films and sequels of all time and is still influential to this day. And no, I'm not comparing Final Fantasy 7 to the Godfather, before you draw that strawman. There is one loose similarity however in that Rebirth is also overwhelmingly acclaimed and considered superior to the first.

Given the decision to split Final Fantasy VII into three separate games, of which Rebirth released exclusively for PS5 leaving the PS4 install base behind, and the final installment due in 2027, the sales performance is a bit more of a conversation than you're trying to make it out to be.

Crows902d ago

Didn't even mention price increases across the board for all games...this causes all people to be more picky and limit game purchases

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 2d ago
GoodGuy093d ago

Unfortunate but it's the reality of sequels. And I simply just don't hear much people talk about rebirth and even remake as these titles just seem too hard to get into with many newcomers and old fans that are upset with the many changes.

Eonjay2d ago

The games are really good and both acclaimed and Rebirth is even better than Remake with a 90+ metascore but if you don't want to 'hear' the praise... you probably wont.

TheProfessional2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It's kind of ridiculous how some people here are just making stuff up to explain the low sales. Just because you bought the game and you like it doesn't mean it sold better than it did. Same with FFXVI.

rpvenom1d 18h ago

For me its cause now that i know it releases on pc.. id rather play it with mods on my pc than my ps5

gold_drake3d ago

well, according to some other reports, it had 2.1 mio. players in the first week.

so, who to believe now.

ZeekQuattro3d ago

It's safe to say if it sold that Square would of made a sales milestone announcement like they did with past FF entries or other IPs in general. They did a FF16 sales update within 2 weeks after it launched for instance.

gold_drake3d ago

there is no way this game hasnt already sold more than remake.

there doesnt need to be an announcement for everything, especially not if they released several updates amd the ultimania.

people are too obsessed with sales

CrimsonWing693d ago

I think there’s a reason we haven’t seen a celebratory tweet from Square on the sales. It came out on Feb. 29th and it’s Apr. 13th right now… that ain’t a good sign. I think this one can reach 3 mill at some point but will be behind Remake, which when it comes to business, that ain’t good.
