PS3 now years best selling home console in Japan

M2G Writes:

This weeks Japanese hardware charts are in and it seems any hope Microsoft had of the new slimmer 360 selling well have already been dashed.

The new console managed to sell just 700 units, accounting for 20% of the overall sales, which totalled 2,915.

Sony faired a lot better, selling 30,761 PSP units and 19,907 PS3′s, which actually sees the system reach over the one million sales for the year to date and even more impressively overtake the Wii.

sony proud to be a ps owner since ps1 and ps2 and ps3

NecrumSlavery4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

Yup I'll be 25 in a month. I cant believe I was 9 or 10 when I got my Playstation. I remember my dad got it right after Oddworld came out and he let me play Abe's Oddysee, N2O: Nitros Oxide, and Crash Bandicoot. Gaming changed for me that generation and I really got into the hardcore series.

I really don't see how being number one in a market as small as japan is that significant? But never the less they are on top there and good for them.

badz1494968d ago

Japan is small market? pretty ignorant to be honest! it's so small, that's why M$ is trying hard paying Japanese devs and get them to make exclusive JRPGs just to appeal to that market? yeah...that makes sense! /s

paintsville4968d ago

Well I should say relatively small. Being a student of business, a market that only yielded 18599 units moved in comparison to the americas market of 56872 units moved and 124621 units moved world wide for ps3, japan is indeed a small market in comparison.

As for you question regarding the marketing dollars spent my microsoft to break into the japan market? From a business point of view I'm really confused about that. I'm not sure why they are spending so much money, time, and effort into a resistant closed economy system like japan's, which is going to only give you small returns?

Oh and I'd practice making my points without the use of words like ignorant. It only takes away from the strenght of your position.

badz1494968d ago

Japan is never a "small" market by any means. US, EU, JPN are the 3 biggest market in the industry and how can you put any of them it as "small"? of course relatively it's smaller than US but that relates directly to the population with the US having 308m to Japan's 127m. so, selling just several thousand less per week is in no way small! the only thing that is small in Japan is the 360's market and PSP Go! as well!

rezzah4968d ago

Lol I was 4 when I got my PS1. Grand Turismo was my first game ever =D

JAPAN is the land of hope for Sony
USA is the land of hope for MS

no big deal

RedDragan4969d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

JAPAN is Sony land
USA is Microsoft land

Europe is just a huge fricking beast that sells sells sells and can make any company huge profits, it just so happens to prefer Nintendo and Sony over Microsoft.

UPDATE:
Lol at the butthurt MS fanboy who disagrees!

huga_muga4968d ago

JAPAN is the land of hope for Sony
Europe is the land of hope for Sony
Meddle east is the land of hope for Sony (PS3 selling like hot cakes in United Arab Emirates

USA is the only land of hope for MS

The world >>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>& gt; USA

You Noob4968d ago

The comparison wasn't with the shittybox360, but with the Wii.

FAIL

gtamike4969d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

Sony's got alot of first party developers and has the most powerful console out, the PS3.

r1sh124968d ago

they were always gonna win the home market.
They are doing very well in Europe, its only some of America left to conquer.

Muletroid4968d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

but they haven't conquered japan though.. or america.. or europe

conquer is a pretty big word to use here
i mean if someone was talking about (inset name here) conquering (insert place here) then i would assume they mean conquer as in completely take over

Looks like the Wii is fading away everywhere in the US and UK the 360 is ahead of it and in Japan the PS3 is ahead of it. The crazy finally seems to be dying out.

CrazyForGames4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

yup because selling 1,581 more consoles so far this whole year really means DOOM for everyone else...

so many doomsayers around here

RedDragan4969d ago

Ehmmm... you do realise that the UK is part of Europe, and in Europe the PS3 is dominating the Xbox 360?

ssj4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

The only thing the PS3 is dominating is the bottom of the worldwide sales chart.

EYEamNUMBER14969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

ok i admit it that made me laugh a little lol
others wont be so lighthearted though

RedDragan4968d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

We'll see who has more agree's in the next 24 hours, ssj....

Hands Up For Games4968d ago

That is one of the most pathetic things ive read on here. And thats saying something!

We'll see who has the most agrees?!?! What will that prove?

I have a PS3 and a 360 and I love playing on both consoles!! They have now both hit the sweetspot of over 40 million units sold so we know we will continue to get great games coming to both consoles.

"We'll see who has more agree's in the next 24 hours" That really did make me laugh, like out loud, are Agrees your comfort blanket? Sad sad, really sad.

timmyrulz4968d ago

Show us some links then that shows Sony dominating MS in Europe? Percentage wise i would say its 51/49 in favour of Sony but with MS catching up FAST

badz1494968d ago

M$ is catching up? you do realized that 360 came out a year and a half earlier than the PS3 in Europe, right? that's catching up?

wicked4968d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

@badz149

But from the PS2 days it was 98% to 2% to Sony, so yes MS has come a long way.

badz1494968d ago

this is the PS3 we're talking about and it has nothing to do with the PS2. sure the PS2's install base is huge but that doesn't warrant all those PS2 owners will buy a PS3. it's just like saying I have an iPhone and I'll definitely buy iPhone3GS and then iPhone4 and then also the next one and so on. it doesn't work like that! there's no guarantee in it at all.

Poor fanboy getting all excited with false info and will be disappointed when Sony is once again dead last world wide.

I cant wait to see the same people falling over themselves here to proclaim a console king based off sales in one country go back to saying sales do not matter when PS3 is shown to still be last.

Oh BTW love the Wii is dead comment when it outsells PS3 by a large margin every month, but keep focused on that one small region...

4969d ago
StitchJones4969d ago

Good work Sony! It's just a shame you had to charge so much for the console at Launch and chose to go with the CELL cpu which developers have had trouble coding on. Maybe with your next console iteration you'll be mindful of this.

MaximusPrime4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

Unlike Xbox 360 and Kinect, Japanese people love near-reliable technologies.

no doubt PS Move will sell like hot cakes over there.

EYEamNUMBER14969d ago

"near-reliable"

i take it that was a compliment? right?

MaximusPrime4969d ago

all technologies can and will fail.

PS3 and Wii no doubt will fail but not high number of them.

Xbox 360 always fail. old and new

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto3h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger882h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
