IGN Playstation 3 Game of the Month: August 2007

With all the videogames released each and every month, it can be a difficult task to decide on which title to spend your hard-earned money. Granted, you could always go by our review scores alone and weed through the long list of names to find something that scored high or low, but what if you had somewhere else to turn?

Rather than wait until the end of the year for our big award blowout, we've created this monthly tribute to the weeks that were. The entire PlayStation Team has come together so that we can tell our readers what we thought was the very best game for each system last month... and why. Though some of us often chime in with our comments at the end of reviews, for the most part, the reviews on IGN are primarily written by one editor. In this feature we had every editor on the channel vote for a single title. What better way to represent a team is there than to speak your collective minds?

that's true. I spend most of my time on warhawk now. I hope there's a black ops rank on warhawk.

DJ6079d ago

as multiplayer games get. The amount of strategy and skill that the fights slowly ratchet up towards is absolutely amazing. Talking trash never felt so good. =]

junk566079d ago

warhawk for multiplayer, bioshock for single player.
great months for gamers.

ADD ME f*ckers so we can play together from time to time..

bought it yesterday and I love it...

whoooop6 <---- PSN ID

PS:

Wanted to add something interesting for PS3 owners..

I bought LAIR today and here's my opinion on it..

First of all lets point out the obvious, LAIR is beautiful.. Like I expected the ocean, the hugh environments, the lighting, the dragon wings.. WOW

The draw distance is hugh and the surroundings are big too with a lot happening at once. The combination is impressive

Now to the other obvious aspect which is the controls...

Surprisingly for me (I was very disappointed with the decision of F5 adding only sensor controls), it felt very comfortable and natural, I'm being very honest here..

It ain't near difficult to control the dragon, it even feels better to move the sixaxis, make it feels more real and it gets you more in the beauty of the game.

Controls aren't 100% accurate, I have trouble doing the 180 most of the time (maybe I suck at it) and it gets confusing (sometimes) when you're side by side with another dragons trying to smack him.

Alright now the to cons:

When the camera face towards the mayhem, that's when you get the frame rates issues, they are not that prolonged, but they are annoying when you're trying to enjoy the view while you swing your beautiful dragon to the side to turn around ( I've never seen something more beautiful to date in a game, like watching the dragon turn around slowly near the surface of the ocean with the sun and the horizon in the background).. sry had to write it..

Also... I like many things happening at once, but sometimes it gets a bit confusing with so many sh*t happening.. Don't get me wrong It's nice to have all that happening, but my first impression is that it gets confusing sometimes and I have to fly a bit away from the mayhem to organized myself..

Now the gameplay.. well yeah it's a bit repetitive, but it's not boring repetitive... it's just that in a dragon game there's not much you can do with it when you're trying to keep a rhythm and a deep story..

IMO the game is good, NOT a classic, not a system seller, but good nonetheless for PS3 owners who are looking for something different and for gamers like me that can let some things slide just for the graphics. (I'm a graphic whore just so ya'll know).

Controls are NOT and I repeat are NOT the reason you should let this game slide. It's just a matter of appeal and interest.

Visuals are undeniably beautiful, story is interesting, gameplay is average to good and controls are NEW, different and surprisingly GOOD. IMO.

So don't let this game slide if you were exited about it, because I was exited about it and I'm enjoying it bit by bit.

F*ck reviews and review the game by yourself if you really want it..

pardon my english

I like your honest input on Lair but you should put that in your N4G blog instead.

Roundtable: Dead Game Franchises We Miss

With every big game now belonging to a big intellectual property, there are those that have become redundant. Here are the series' we miss.

RPGer1087d ago

I miss Dark Cloud I mean damn, Dark Cloud 2 is one of the best Action RPG game ever made. The game have: Rich Worlds, different setting, tons of contents, vareity in gameplay like never before (and even after), best buliding mechanics, crafting system like no one did and finally impressive graphics.

Most underrated game ever. It deserved the popularity and sales of Zelda and Final Fantasy. ut unfortunately, Level-5 and Sony didn't advertise it at all.

My franchises I wish would make a come back, are Battlefront by pandemic studios - galactic conquest was the best, mercenaries 1 and 2, and prototype 1 and 2...great games!

Have there been any reviews for this game?

Akira20201665d ago

Wait till you guys see all the Pay To Win micro-transactions that are in this game!! Yes, everything from buying weapons (NOT just skins), to attachments, to skill unlocks, to "time savers", etc....and this is just naming a few. Check out the videos online for Breakpoint's Store!

I was so jacked for this game, but now it's a pass just like this year's COD.
I'm predicting that these greedy companies will soon be the death of video games as we know it.

Pretty sure you can get this for 50 cents on g2a right now lol.

Free game is a free game though. Mostly busting balls; MS has been offering a fantastic amount of content, and asking little for it.

Parasidious1835d ago

I'm my opinion the AW series was the worst Ghost Recon. Probably why.

annoyedgamer1835d ago

Thats def an opinion. I loved GRAW 1 and 2.

snoopgg1835d ago

Graw 2 was pretty good. I think future soldier was the worst tom clancy game made.

Sophisticated_Chap1835d ago

GRAW2 was fantastic back in the day. I had it on PS3, and for it's time, the graphics were great and the single player campaign was excellent. The multi-player was excellent too, especially since you had clan tools, you could make custom servers with any map with loads of options, like, dawn/dusk/afternoon and evening light settings, custom camo for each team, turn Night Vision on/off for both teams, and a bunch of other small options. There were also a whole bunch of different verses modes to choose from.

The co-op for GRAW2 was great also, with what I remember to be a total of around 10 co-op modes, like a full co-op campaign, helicopter hunt, terrorist hunt, and a bunch of others. 2005-2012ish was when you actually received great value for money. They don't make games packed with content like this anymore, and if they do, you either need to purchase a seasons pass for an extra $60.00, or you can buy each item separately, costing you an arm and a leg.

Back on PS2 Ghost Recon was also ahead of its time, with Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm, offering two (2) separate and full single player campaigns (one was from Island Thunder, and the other took place in Cuba, and was exclusive to the PS2), voice commands to your A.I. teammates in single player (Socom was also doing this at the time), a full multi-player suite with really well designed maps, and 4 player online co-op. This was one of my all time favorites on PS2.

I wouldn't trust G2A even if they were giving away free games and hardware.

MadLad1835d ago

I've used it. I know it's a shady site but, at the end of the day, I'm the consumer. The place usually offers me the best deals.
