Hot on the heels of its longest games ever list and speed run feature, NowGamer looks at the shortest games ever, depending on genre and a host of other factors. Note, this is shortest game in each genre, not the shortest overall.

Well this List is not about glitches.

But I don't really get these top 10's at all, because they don't really place it after the time you spent with the game rather more like a personal preference of whats good and bad in a random order.

Megaman Games are pretty short. You can complete some in under 1 hour.

A Cupcake for Gabe4986d ago

It's true, it's not about glitches but I like this one as well.

Mario N64 : http://www.youtube.com/watc...

darkcharizard4985d ago

for the NES = epitome of shortness!

fastrez4986d ago

Yes and no, it's great for the duration, but if they made it too long it wouldn't be as exciting. It would run out of steam too quickly.

Ocelot5254986d ago

if you count out the extra missions, whuch you shouldn't cuz they were fun

jerethdagryphon4985d ago

add jurrassic the hunted to that list 4.5 hours if your decent

and mirrors edge could be completed by a gaming god in less then 1 hour story wise

k-Lan4985d ago

MW2? Really? Did you play it once on easy or something? Try testing yourself on veteran and get back to me with your amount of play time.

Bloodraid4985d ago

Not only does the time it takes to complete a game vary from person to person - [I can be Resident Evil 2 in about 2 hours, for example] - But it's somewhat bias as well. For example, they say Fable is a short game, yet they put the estimated playtime at 7 hours, and say this is only if you do the main-storyline quests, and nothing else.

Then there's the fact that they don't know about every game that's been made (which is obvious). For example; The game "D" requires you to complete the game in less than 2 hours else you will get a game over and need to start back from the beginning.

pixelsword4985d ago

I think this is about games that are short and kinda suck; so Half-life and Heavenly sword wouldn't be on there.

They also both start with the letter "h".

JohnApocalypse4986d ago (Edited 4986d ago )

I've heard Rouge Warrior is half that length

xtremexx4986d ago

played about 5 mins the dropped it and played Skate 3

poindat4985d ago

Was because it was hilarious constantly hearing that fool swear profusely and talk about how he was going to wrap his testicles around the enemies' necks.

WTF.

fastrez4986d ago

I heard two hours. Still not played it, looks awful. As for Army of Two, that length sounds about right.

morganfell4985d ago (Edited 4985d ago )

Rogue Warrior a good deal longer than two hours. And it is hilarious. The sad thing is I played a different version of the game before it was taken away from Zombie. It used the Unreal 3 engine then, was a 4 man squad and had the best underwater swimming ever seen in a game.

The joke about many of these games supposedly being short is these naysayers play them on easy.

I am in the last level of Kane and Lynch Dog Days and I have gone through on Extreme the entire time. It damn sure isn't a 6 hour game in that mode.

We also have less than perceptive people discussing their speed run times. They fail to comprehend the vast differences between going through a game rather than actually PLAYING a game.

NYC_Gamer4986d ago

mirrors edge really that short?

xtremexx4986d ago

i didnt exspect it to be short

fastrez4986d ago

The point of the game is speed runs. Yeah it's really short, but a great concept.

PopEmUp4985d ago

me 4hr to complete and thank god eb have a 7 day return policy Haha

Ocelot5254986d ago

an average gamer will complete it in +-8hours, 4 hours is for people who have memorized the game

and don't forget there are whole lot of bonus challenges

Jallen4986d ago

Yeah I was about to say I thought it took around 8 hours. Good game though and I managed to cripple my hands by attempting the trials.

Koblec4986d ago

Hopefully there is a sequel in the works. DICE makes awesome games and ME was a good concept.

jerethdagryphon4985d ago

its short 9 chapeters but intense any longer and it risked outstaying its welcome that said the story the campaign is really a tutorial

the real game is the time trials and speed runs

once you know the levels and what moves work its finding shortest paths within that enviroment very good game

OSU_Gamer4986d ago

I played Fable a long time ago, but I don't remember it being that short.

Am I wrong?

xtremexx4986d ago

Fable should be LOOOOOOOOONG shouldnt it?

A Cupcake for Gabe4986d ago

The first fable was about a 5-8 hour run through on your first go, and about a 12-14 hour game to go both ways of good and evil. There was a lot to do, but it flew by fast. I don't know why.

PopEmUp4985d ago

complete in like 2 days

fastrez4986d ago

Depends which version you played I think, wasn't lost chapters much, much bigger? The original key quests were short, but then again it's been years since I played it...

asyouburn4986d ago

turned me off of the whole series

xchris92x4986d ago

No I finished it in about 15 hours.

Feckles4986d ago

Fable was short for an RPG, especially compared to the likes of Kotor and Jade Empire – the two RPGs it was compared to on Xbox.

asyouburn4986d ago (Edited 4986d ago )

Jade Empire was kinda short. great game, dont get me wrong, but i beat it in 20 or so hrs, and was like, WTF

tplarkin74986d ago

You could beat it in a devoted weekend. About 15 hours. However, Fable has a rich world where your character changes appearance with every action.

koh4985d ago

I don't thing the list was about how rich the world was... just the length. A lot of the games were pretty good, just a bit short.

Montoya4985d ago (Edited 4985d ago )

You sound like big Pete himself..

"Fable has a rich world where your character changes appearance with every action."

kneon4986d ago

Was that as short as MW2? it only took me about 5 hours on veteran.

coolbeans4986d ago

It might depend on strategy though. Since CoD4 had respawning enemies, it may have taken longer to get from point A to B on veteran while some may be good at popping-n-shooting on MW2 without worrying about more enemies coming from nowhere. Took me about 30 more mins. to beat MW2 than MW1.

Kazu0 Hirai4986d ago

pretty easy to bullshit when posting on the internet

El_Colombiano4986d ago

Actually, MW2 was the very easy on Veteran. I beat it incredibly fast compared to the hell storm that was World at War.

kneon4985d ago (Edited 4985d ago )

I don't really care if you believe me, but the fact is that MW2 was hardly any more difficult on veteran than it was on normal. Totally unlike WAW which I'm still trying to finish on veteran.

And I have no need to bullshit, that would imply I care what anyone thinks, I'm too old to care what anyone thinks of me.

KingOfOldSkool4985d ago

Actually, a little bit under 5 hours on veteran does sound about right.. just played through it the other day with that time.

10 Worst PS3 Games of All Time

turning point had a really great story / concept... it just was very generic in its game play.

LucasRuinedChildhood90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Haze is a bad game but Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty makes it seem like a captivating work of art. haha. Fuck that game

Shellshock 2: Blood Trails isn't on this list but it might be the worst game I've ever played. I got it as a present from my mam and when I saw the box, my life flashed before my eyes thinking of the Metacritic score: https://www.metacritic.com/...

I also received Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty as a present from another family member. Bless their hearts for trying but ... oh Lord. My uncle gave my Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time and MGS2 though. 😎

DarXyde90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Was it really that bad? I recall trying the demo and not liking it, but that's just me not liking FPS games.

People I know who played it and like FPS games mostly came to the conclusion that it has a lot of room for improvement, but it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be.

Don't know, my opinion on these games should be taken with a grain of salt.

mastershredder90d ago

Oof! yeah, Ride was a huge fumble they tried to market twice.
Haven Fall of the King was dog-shi7-tastic and should be a runner up to some of those.
I'd even nominate Legend of Kay. Heh Haze... there is no excuse for that one (just pretend Haze did not happen).

Baldur's Gate 3 Producer Has Joined Fable Developer Playground Games

Xbox is definitely the house of RPGs and it´s getting bigger and better by the day!

Fable will be fantastic!

Marcus Fenix203d ago

I hope to see the following at Microsoft’s June games showcase:

Contraband (3rd party exclusive)
ID Software
Machine Games
The Coalition
Playground
Ninja Theory
The Initiative
Double Fine
Rare

Im sure we won’t see all these studio’s projects but at least 5 of them would be nice.

Sciurus_vulgaris202d ago

I’m surprised Gears 6 hasn’t been announced by the Coalition as of yet. Gears 5 released 4 years and the Coalitions hasn’t another AAA title since then, excluding the co-developed Gears Tactics.

Lightning77202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

Todd hinted at Indiana Jones being at next year's E3.

I heard Contraband is going through some sorta rework. I don't really have much hope for that game at this point in time.

Btw Gears 6 is in full development they took time away to learn Unreal Engine 5. Yeah... If we're going off of Immortals Of Aveum performance. They have allot of work ahead of them.

GhostScholar202d ago

I’m with you, but you had to know that comment wouldn’t be popular here lol

Sonic1881202d ago

The house of western RPGs. There, I fixed it for you

Crows90202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

Not even accurate though. They haven't made a single RPG yet. Starfield is barely an RPG as it is...there's no role picking unlike in elder scrolls games...especially the older ones. No skills...no attributes...just perks.

Imagine baldurs gate 3 where all you get to pick are feats.

Sonic1881202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

Starfield was probably the worse RPG from Bethesda. Especially when it comes to review scores on Steam

https://www.gamespot.com/ar...

https://youtu.be/NuJumZT7Kt...

darthv72202d ago

All games are RPG if you think about it. You play the role of a character and do the stuff required to win the game.

Technically speaking.

Zeref202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

I couldn't be happier about that. I heard even Infinity Ward is working on an RPG. I am hyped af to see what they can do outside of CoD!

Crows90202d ago

What new RPGs has Xbox made recently?

jjb1981202d ago

I played the Fable Legends closed beta and actually kinda liked it. It sucks that it was canceled. I'm definitely looking forward to the new Fable.

Crows90202d ago

So it could have been really good. They lacked vision for the end product.

Barlos201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

Absolutely. I loved FF7 Remake and I've been playing the hell out of FFXVI and BG3 on my Xbox and I can't wait for FF7 Rebirth next February!

Oh hang on, none of them are on xbox are they?

House of the RPG indeed.

Obscure_Observer201d ago

None of the games you mentioned are first party.

Those aren´t even exclusive.

In case you didn´t notice, Fable is an first party RPG among many others in development at XGS.

CappyBlack201d ago

When's the last time Sony released a JRPG; let alone an actual RPG? Outside of 3rd party payouts. I can say the same for virtually every genre that isn't a linear action game or a racing game that doesn't press their competition.

Barlos201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

"None of the games you mentioned are first party.

Those aren´t even exclusive.

In case you didn´t notice, Fable is an first party RPG among many others in development at XGS."

And where in your original post did you mention first party? Regardless of exclusivity, none of the games I mentioned - some of the biggest RPGs around - are on Xbox but you seem to think Xbox is home of the RPG. You have Starfield and...oh, Fable. Wow.

But that's OK, if you want to move the goalposts to make yourself feel better, go right ahead 👍

Also, if you want to talk first party, some would say that Horizon and God of War are action RPGs. I personally don't, but they could be classed as such since they have RPG elements.

Obscure_Observer201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

"And where in your original post did you mention first party?"

This topic is about Ryan Clark from Larian joining Playground Games.

I said, "Xbox is definitely the house of RPGs and it´s getting bigger and better by the day!"

Not idea how you though I was talking about third party games.

"Regardless of exclusivity, none of the games I mentioned - some of the biggest RPGs around - are on Xbox but you seem to think Xbox is home of the RPG."

Xbox as a brand, doesn´t have to own all of the RPG games available in the market to be considered "the house of RPGs". I made that statement because today, Xbox is the brand with more dedicated RPG studios under its wings.

Besides, Phil has a new partnership with SE in place, we already got FFXIV from Yoshi P´s team, I wouldn´t be surprised if FF7R and FFXVI are the next. BG3 is also coming to Xbox this year, it´s not like we ain´t getting that game.

" You have Starfield and...oh, Fable. Wow."

Pentiment
Project Dragon
Towerborne
TESVI
Fallout 5
Avowed
Clockwork Revolution
The Outer Worlds 2

All first party. So now you know.

Like I said, Xbox is undoubtedly the house of the RPG games. You may not like it, but it´s nothing but a fact. Unless of course, you have some actual facts to counter the facts the brought here regarding first party RPG development.

"Also, if you want to talk first party, some would say that Horizon and God of War are action RPGs. I personally don't, but they could be classed as such since they have RPG elements."

You know as well as everybody that those games are action/adventure games with some RPG elements thrown into the mix.

Unfortunately at the moment, Sony is not investing in first party RPGs or RPG studios. Sorry.

Still waiting to see what kind of game fable will be. Hope it has gargoyles...probably not.

Hope you can pick between male or female and choose something else to distinguish yourself during character creation.

Super excited for this and perfect dark...excited to see what they make that is. Don't have any high hopes but maybe MS can prove me wrong. Playground has been their studio for a long time and the initiative is their only new studio

Lightning77202d ago

"Hope you can pick between male or female and choose something else to distinguish yourself during character creation."

That's a staple in most if not all RPG's.

henbayward202d ago

Not these days, it ain't! 🤣🤣

VersusDMC202d ago

This is a good get as Baldur's Gate 3 is highly regarded.

But this has to be a hire for their next game right? Why would Fable need a producer now?

BrainSyphoned202d ago

Because the current producers at Xbox are helping produce some real bangers.... I'm sure Fable is in a great state right now.

Charlieboy333202d ago

Can't wait to see what their '10 year plan' is for Fable.....just like Halo and now Forza. I'm curious to see just how badly they fuck this up with online focused, drip fed content, design and gameplay. Because I know it's going to be nothing like the previous games and anyone expecting that is in for a nasty surprise.

Popsicle202d ago

I really am hoping against hope that you are wrong, but I think you are probably right. Unfortunately
