Have you ever read an article on a website or a thread on a forum about a console or a game for a console you don’t have? Have you then made a blanket statement slamming said game or console because, basically, you don’t have it? If you answered yes to these questions, then you, my friend, are an idiot.

Brand loyalty has its advantages but also its limitations. You are restricting your level of entertainment by choice. Nothing wrong with looking at it like that so long as you can acknowledge there are others who may not share the same sentiment.

I can respect a persons choice to only play one system so long as they can equally respect mine in playing all of them.

I have my favorites that i play more than others (especially in the sega ages) but it still play the ones that others would shun simply because they want to remain loyal to one side or the other.

I'm not sure it's loyalty though. I would think there is a mixture of things happening. Loyalty would be 120 million gamers buying the PS3 just because they had the PS2.

This is one of the first gens where early adopters got burn really badly by rrod, ylod, over hyped games, dlc pricing, and the dumbing down of the addictive parts of gaming and the rise of visual attraction and online game play band aid treatment.

I feel like gamers are angrier now more than ever. The march that we all wanted was derailed and truthfully it was sony's fault. Yet it was also nintendo fault yet MS was just filling in where these guys where not. I blame nintendo for messing up the n64 project. that had to be the worst console they ever made tech and spec wise simply because it should have giving us the PS2 or dreamcast level graphics had it used a disk format.

It's really weird looking back. Yet people get addicted to certain things I believe. Like I really do feel like Many SONY fans would hate gaming back during the arcade days or the snes.

It's so bad that many studio are not even making games they are simply trying to figure out what is really going on here.

The hype did not work.
The loyalty did not work.
The HD graphics did not work.

Yet will creativity work?
Will addictive game play ever work again?
If so do gamers even want a challenge any more?
Is it only about story now?

I think the vale of loyalty really is just a game preference type.

people like this are usually paranoid they may have made the wrong choice, they want other things to be vastly inferior to the stuff they bought. This console generation is very evenly matched, all consoles including the wii have great strengths as well as weaknesses. I feel fortunate to be able to own all 3 and be able to experience all that gaming has to offer, feel sorry for people that only own 1 console, for whatever reason.

Here in the US, we're all Americans, but once you join a party, its like people of the other party are all of a sudden less American than you. competition has ALWAYS existed in the console market. You've never seen this kind of war between Playstation and Nintendo fans. Sure there were some disgruntled dreamcast fans but even they were tame compared to what's going on now. What you see going on now is a battle for gamers hearts and minds, on one hand you have traditional gaming companies like Nintendo and Sony and on the other you have a software behemoth with a less than stellar history of anti-competitive practices and an even worse history of shafting consumers once they control whatever market they set their sights on.

THIS FOLKS............has been common knowledge for YEARS to anyone that has been paying attention. The only difference now is they have legions of "fanboys" relentlessly doing damage control and spin whenever microsoft's history is brought up. I agree with Psfan999. Sony owners are loyal because of good service throughout the years. Dispite the few hiccups that have occured Sony has done nothing but give us a multitude of varied games. I even understand Wii owners sticking with Nintendo because of their past accomplishments. But I think some of us are slightly confused by the Microsoft 360 loyalty.Besides being the least varied and least innovative when it comes to games, their console hardware skills are subpar. I mean seriously, look how long it took them to get their console right. One faliure and one malfunctioning one that took 3 years to make work properly. And then people have the nerve to come in here with wild claims like Sony are liars, Kinect is better than the Wii, Kinect works perfectly unlike Move, Sony doesn't know what they are doing with no proof or basis for their claims. aren't there more games in every category (check on gamefaqs, ign, metatric, etc...) on x360 than ps3? Do you own an xbox tiamat5, how do you know it doesn't have varied/innovative/fun/lots of games?

Isn't the original xbox is rock solid in compare to PS2 (given they did mess up on x360)? Does PS3 also have lots of problem with early model like YLOD/disc read errors? (the only console that i haven't heard any problem is the wii).

Nintendo and Sony have earn their way in to gaming because of the GAMES, and you know what, MS is doing pretty well on that front this time around as well.

1/5 is actually focusing on wii games in a year where the system is tearing it up. The rest are flamewars, filler, or promotional links probably submitted by a viral marketer. Pathetic. I own all three systems and this site tells me almost nothing about the most popular one (for which I own most of my games).

Sports teams are as big of a brand as anything else. Have you ever seen an American Football forum? What about the original football (soccer)?
I have NEVER, EVER seen a riot in the streets because one metacritic score beats another. However, I have been in the middle of a street brawl between some Barcelona fans and some Real Madrid fans. I've seen two gearheads come to blows over which car has better specs. I've seen kids get shot and killed over what street they are from. No, not brand loyalty per se, but ignorant blind loyalty nonetheless. Point is all of it is petty and useless bickering that means nothing...except that it proves the lengths that some will go to be loyal. Specifically the first question. I read articles about the Wii, 360, DS and PSP, systems I don't have but played all of them, interesting. I have friends that have all these consoles so I take it upon myself to feed them info they might not know (the info that's not a rumor)I care about all the consoles so it's just something I do and if a really interesting sounding game comes out on a system I don't have I will tell them about and try to make them buy it. I don't think that would make me an idiot.

baodeus you should really learn to write not rant. You asked too many questions for me to answer. For one thing the orignal Xbox was clunky and overheated and was avoided by most developers. Even Microsoft obviously knew it was a piece of junk judging by the way they abandoned it before it completed a full console life. Secondly I don't know where you have been but the failure rate of a PS3 was less then 5% while the 360 was over 20% and the PS2's problems were not only minimal but easily fixed. Thirdly not sure what you have been looking at but Microsoft's games consist mostly of shooters, sports and PC like games. No platformers, no action adventure, no action platformers, barely any casual or RPGs.And even when they do have them they are low selling and half @$$ed e.g. Banjo Koozie NB, Blue Dragon. Finally I have played the 360 and the Wii.So I am not just a PS3 owner who knows nothing about other consoles. Calling me names and disagreeing with what I say doesn't make it any less true

Nintendo did analog controls first on N64.

However sony can be credited with introducing dual analog... because they figured if they'd copy it they would double it up.

Atari actually made an analog controls way before Nintendo or Sony.

The form of controls for an atari is incomparable to a modern analog stick. That's like saying the stone caveman wheel was the first rubber tire.

Atari's joystick was kept centered by a stiff rubber around the stick and the controls only really had 8 contacts. The analog Nintendo introduced knows the difference between just moving the stick slightly and moving it all the way and was centered by internal spring and/or rubber band system. By comparison all atari's "analog stick" was, Was essentially a dpad with a stick attached.

Personally I don't know how anyone can be loyal to sony.. maybe i'm just unlucky but I went through two ps2s due to the disc read error... by the time I sold my psp, it would take me 5 hours of charging for one hours worth of gaming. Then I got one of the old sony mds and had the exact same problem, my battery would last 2 hours off a full charge. Seems like a lot of people actually do like sony so maybe i'm unlucky.

As for microballs, well i'm about to buy my fifth 360 as my current one is showing signs of the dreaded disc drive of doom.. stupid halo reach making me want to buy another one of their shitty consoles :(

Nintendo however i've never had problems with their hardware but 90% of their games are pure bullcrap.

I like the 360 better for a lot of reasons: it has the best interface and console functionality, my favorite controller, the largest library of games, the best versions of most cross platform titles, the best online service, and some great exclusives I wouldn't want to live without.

However, that doesn't mean that I don't like the PS3 or that I don't respect other gamers' right to have a different favorite console.

I don't bestow "loyalty" willy nilly - I moved from Saturn to PS2, dipped in Dreamcast and went through to Xbox then PS3 (having a second hand 360 for around 6 months). The latest Sony console has impressed enough for me to conclude I don't need any other system right now.

I buy every console every generation, because I'm a videogame fan, not a console manufacturer fan. I've got every console since the atari 2600, up to and including this generation.

I can play every game that comes out if I want to, so there's no way I can lose, unlike the people who restrict what games they can play out of blind loyalty to a company that doesn't care about them.

If you don't own all the consoles each generation, you're missing out - no if's, but's or maybe's about it.

Loving your console of choice is fine, it's hating the other is where the problem is. No need to bash on something that you don't even own. Anger like that usually goes beyond just gaming and most likely affects every part of that person's life. It's really sad to see.

I owned all 3 console's last gen, and rarely used my PC. This generation the console's were overpriced and in my opinion weren't significantly better graphically than the last gen, unlike the massive jump from PS1 to PS2, or N64 to gamecube.

The games cost $10 on console's and a lot of my favourite franchises weren't there at launch....we have only just got an FF game now... there was no mario game at launch...

People always change how they game, it doesn't really matter what platform. I don't have as much disposable income as I used to so I have to pick and choose too.

I agree with the article. The only peace of hardware I'm loyal to at the moment is my gaming laptop because without it not only would I not be able to play PC games but I also wouldn't be able to do many other things I have to get done in my daily life.

the ps brand has had the best games and most features since it entered gaming. with the ps3 i own multiple goty winning games, the best and more exclusives then the pc and 360 with more variety in exclusives then nintendo, new features that aren't anywhere else like home and folding home plus more, free online with lots of games using dedicated servers meaning far les lag, it is a multi media console so i don't have to do just one thing with it and it does many other things. i'm not going to sit here bs that the 360 is a goood console when it's not. it has the worst failure rate of any electronic, uses laggy p2p servers, it barely has any exclusives(no reason to own the system if most of the games are on other consoles), they don't have many features and the ones they do have are free on the ps3 like twitter and face book, over priced add ons for things that are free on the ps3 like wifi and and hdd, paying to play online when no one else does(why should i pay full price for just acess to the single player then pay more to get access to the other half of the game), they never try anything new they just follow so everything is old when it hits the 360 like 3D will be and many other things. yes the ps3 isn't perfect but it is a far better consolethat gives you far more then the other to combined. i'm not going to pretend these things are ok just to be nice because then they will never be fixed(360 fanboys denied rrod for years and it never got fixed till people treatened to sue then it got lowered in weeks).

There is nothing wrong with being loyal to the console you have. The problem I see is what actually drives players to dislike a product? Take the 360 for example. I know someone who despises it for one simple reason. That reason is, they were burned by M.Soft(in their opinion) with Windows Vista. And from that point on, have decided to utterly hate and despise anything M.soft does. Imo, this sort of reason is complete crap and people with this mind set are what's wrong with console loyalty.

I don't like the 360 for the simple fact of a, failure rate(which I have first hand experience with) b, buying brand new games just to get disc read errors and scratched discs c, having to buy the wireless antenna(come on M.soft even the Wii is wireless) and d, the controller sucks ass. Don't get me wrong I still on occasion play the 360 sitting in my other room. If I'm able to get past disc read errors, I play for all of 10 minutes or so before I get bored and fed up with the visuals.

The original Xbox was pretty bad ass in it's day. First with a HD and had (imo) the best exclusive game to hit a M.soft console... Steal Battalion.

My other consoles are a Wii, PsP and my gaming pc. And I'm quite loyal to the three. Haven't had problems with either of them. Not to mention they're more reliable than my 360.

People can have preference, sure, but the entire fanboy war is just pathetic. I have a PS3, 360 and gaming PC. I play my PS3 the most, then PC, then 360 last, but even though I don't play 360 that much it would be ignorant to say that there still aren't good games on it.

... Well such a thing will never end. I hope more gamers stop being loyal to a brand but it is inevitable. Being loyal to a company that won't hold your hand or give you a hug just for hardware reliability, entertainment value, nostalgia, recognition, etc isn't and will never be a decent excuse for being loyal. Remember this: Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft will not be there to comfort you when you really need it most or at ur end (death).

Would choose Sony,Makita,Guinness,Ford,Cana da,Dr pepper.....brand loyalist or human being with certain preferrence from experience..?
