Never-Before-Seen PS Move Tech Demo is Amazing

DualShockers writes, "Yesterday we were fortunate enough to hang out with our buddy Anton Mikailov from SCEA at Sony’s Holiday media preview event in NYC. We caught up with Anton and the PS Move a while back, and although he had some cool stuff to show us last time around, this time I was absolutely floored. Anton showcased some never before seen PS Move tech demos; the same demos that are being shown to 3rd party developers and publishers in order to showcase what the PS Move is all about. The first demo in the clip, is one you may have seen but just wait until you see the “chameleon” and “Rts” demos. Just think about all of the potential. Amazing is the only way to describe it. Check out the clip below."

Honestly, the more I see the Move in action, the more impressed I am with it. A lot of people tend to actually compare it to the Wii's controls. But, although the Wii IS a motion controller, I have yet to see it apply its tech onto applications the way the Move has been doing. For those of you who will try to compare both controllers, do yourself the favor and read on the difference in techs. The fact that developers have the option to patch code into current and future games that can make use of the controller is an amazing feat on its own.

Joule5017d ago

The physics are just crazy.

HorsePowerr5017d ago

Holy shit this is amazing.

joydestroy5017d ago

i know! i can't wait for it to come out. i'm pretty excited.

Montrealien5017d ago

That was a pretty cool tech demo, hopefully this will catch on, it clearly has motion to take Wii style motion controle to a whole new leve.

sikbeta5017d ago

PS Move is here to Stay pals, you'll love it, it has the potential to replace the DualShock if Sony can find a way to take out the camera...

PlayStation Move FTW!!!

Perjoss5017d ago

its an impressive video, you can see by the reflection of the balls in the TV that there is very little lag. Really looking forward to trying this out for myself.

WhittO5017d ago (Edited 5017d ago )

Next PS3 to have inbuilt HD PS Eye? haha, in 4 years time might not seem so stupid.

Have to say, I was probably going to get Move after seeing E3 conference, but the more I see what it can do, which is not just the crap Casual stuff, makes me excited to see what amazing games Devs like Naughty Dog could produce.

WhittO5017d ago (Edited 5017d ago )

Sorry in 4+ years time I'm sure it will be a 4D cam that will cost alot to include, trying to push the industry forward with the tech, increasing the PS4 price higher, making people cry, then 2-3 years later when the tech becomes common place/standard get over it and start to realise it was the best decision/value for money and will be used for years to come without the need to buy any extra (expensive) add-ons etc.

barom5017d ago

i'm just waiting for a truly cool game. I hope there'll be an Alan Wake-esque game for the Move. That would've been awesome. Or if Dead Space 2 supported Move, I would buy that in a heartbeat.

For now I'll still wait on the sidelines. No games have truly "moved" me yet. Tech demos are awesome but we're not getting access too them :/

raztad5017d ago

Check Echocrome ii

http://blog.us.playstation....

I intend to play some shooters with MOVE, KZ3 among them.

BTW, I agree that a MOVE enabled Dead Space 2 would be amazing.

plumber155017d ago

Think of uncharted 3 with the climbing mechanic that will be sweet

Quagmire5017d ago

Is there any chance of getting the Tech Demo for free when buying the move? That looked INSANE!

No Demon's Soul because the Sword and Shield was already demo-ed and implemented

See Sports Champion.

I'm looking at the chameleon demo and the Hado-ken aspect

morganfell5017d ago

Demon's Souls is fantastic but when I think of Move and a RPG I cross my fingers and think about The Witcher 2.

Move is looking pretty sic! Anyone notice that one of the creators is just a gamer like us and near our ages, that is why I think Move is so in tune to what real gamers want. Its not some PR middle aged guy with a bunch of child actors demonstrating an overpriced camera with pre-rendered footage.

tawak5017d ago

AAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMEEEENNN!!

nycredude5017d ago

If you order this month's (July) Qore they have a huge section with the creator demoing real use of the tech. It is amazing to say the least. If you are still on the fence I guarantee the demo will make up your mind. Go order July Qore for 2 bucks.

Seriously get a life cez. 2 bucks to me mean shit since I make money with a job. I don't spend my life on N4g bashing everything Sony and sucking MS's dick. Go ahead take my bubbles I don't give a shit. N4g is a cess pool of hate anyways so I could care less.

I get more aggravation from visiting this site than I do information so see ya and I wouldn't wana be ya.

"Shooters and motion controllers don't really mix..." Sure I bet you think shooters and a mouse and keyboard don't mix either right? That is exactly what it will be like to play a shooter with the move.

Yeah I am a Ps3 fanboy that is why I had a Wii, 360, Ps3 and A Laptop that runs rings around your DESKTOP.

Now move along kiddo... and remember there is more to life than N4g.

Scotland-The-Brave5017d ago

Dude, you seriously are fucked up, what the hell is wrong with you?
There are a lot of fanboys on this site(including me) but at least im civil and elaborate my perception of things. You on the other hand are hands down the worst on here,(Cez,Green,Hallmark) i think your all the same person, Get a life
On Topic: This is impressing me a lot now, before i wasnt interested but after the sorcery tech demo i'm sold.

You could make one hell of a jedi based Starwars game. Pick people up and force push em, or impale them with the saber after you take off a limb or four.

bviperz5017d ago

Definitely down with the Star Wars feel!

CobraKai5017d ago

It would be so easy to go to the dark side when you can force choke and dismember your enemy limb from limb. Imagine how creative and sadistic you can get.

menoyou5017d ago

This would be amazing in 3D holy crap!

pain777pas5017d ago

This is what I'm talking about when I talk about motion controls. The Chameleon may be able to be done with Kinect but move's precision is just what the hardcore need. I am getting this officially day one. They convinced me Socom 4 here I come or Heavy Rain.

megazeroxuxm5017d ago

well common, its like comparing an old car to a new car. of course the newer modded version will be better :)

Lykon5017d ago

i keep reading about move compared to wii, but seriously , has anyone here tried using wii controls? my experience was that they were highly inaccurate. Move looks like it actually works extremely well. i'm not someone who was interested in motion control, after several frustrating sessions with the wii, and a play through of heavy rain, flapping the dual shock around feeling bored out of my skull i'm starting to feel quite impressed and interested in move.

hazeblaze5017d ago

Yea, that shit was bananas! I hope some Sony 1st party studio gets started on a starcraft- caliber RTS!!! The level of precision in the control was sick! And the fireball demo was pretty sick too... I can't wait to see what the 1st part studios are going to come up with using this tech. Hopefully 3rd party devs will invest some R&D into it too... these short demos already showed how much additional gameplay potential is there!

ShadowCK5017d ago

I love how there is no hate for this device yet in a Kinect article it's the entire opposite. If you think that this technology will appeal to the casual you've got another thing coming. Sony would need a miracle to increase the interest in its Move system. Current sales numbers are not speaking in favor of the PS3.

It's going to be pleasure seeing Kinect crush this appalling abomination.

Lykon5017d ago

your right. I've not seen any hate for move , but not just here but from every hands on preview . I think that's because it is a really good piece of kit... and it would appear to bridge the gap between hardcore and casual effectively...if casuals can manage with the wiis broken (innacurate) controls , they'll be fine with move. Commercialy though we will have to wait and see. Move clearly fixes and improves the wii, I wonder if Kinect can make something new and useable out of webcam movement recognition software (that i remember coming bundled with logitech webcams 10 years ago).

badz1495017d ago

it the Wii. Yes it's using two motion controllers and yes it's based on the same general idea. However, even with wii motion plus you CANNOT compare them in accuracy and natural movement. The move is a day one buy.

.... seriously though, I'm one hell of an interviewer right? lol

Narutone665017d ago

Avatar: The Last Airbender would be a great game with Move controller support.

RubMyTaco5017d ago

That hadouken comment makes me wonder..
Would be pretty cool if they found a way to make street fighter playable with move. Doing your normal attacks (punching, kicking) with the normal buttons, but hold the z button (or whatever it's called on move) and make a movement with the controller(s) to do specials. Seems pretty cool to me. Not sure it would be practical though...

kinect move over your done b4 u begun

siyrobbo5017d ago

why does every move or kinect thread turn into a move vs kinect debate? cant you just enjoy something for its own merits without having to compare it to something else?

anyway, back on topic, that chameleon demo was very good, i like the direction they are going with the tech, pushing in different directions than what has been done before. Just wish the launch line-up was better

IRetrouk5017d ago

wot merits does kinect have other than being expensive and laggy, we have seen time and time again that it doesnt work as advertised, its an eytoy with a 3d camera, dont get me wrong i love my xbox but move just does a better job of motion control, sorry if you dont agree but i honestly dont really care.

siyrobbo5017d ago (Edited 5017d ago )

maybe so but why does it have to be continuously rammed down our throats

every new kinect article has 100's of comments about how crap and expensive it is. yes its shit, yes its overpriced, but why the constant repetition

not every kinect article need 3 dozen comments about why move is so superior

alphakennybody5017d ago (Edited 5017d ago )

Nice demos, lol at the chameleon demo. the move is showing what the wii should've been years ago.

PS: new AC gameplay footage at the background near the end.

ULTIMATE_REVENGE5017d ago (Edited 5017d ago )

Do they even update their engine or what?

silvacrest5017d ago

i said the same thing a while ago and got loads of disagrees

I'm glad that at least someone else noticed this

DigitalAnalog5017d ago

Ubisoft utilzed an outdated engine for SCC and a very "non-HD" POP along with that. I don't think graphics is their forte.

@car

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6411d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long11d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197211d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 11d ago
DivineHand12511d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91311d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer11d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91310d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit10d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 10d ago
Christopher11d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6910d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit10d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher11d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken11d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2311d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218311d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder11d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
