At Develop this afternoon, a collection of crack indie devs had a chat about how to make money as a micro-studio.

Yeah, that's usually a good price for a good game. I paid like $20 for Trine on PSN, though.

GodsHand5024d ago

$10 I find to be the right price for games that are short, and simple. I loved the demo for Trine, but I waited until it was on sale for $10. When Joe Danger hits that price too, I will most likely pick that up too. Until then I will just wait it out for the right price.

With a demo you just don't know what you are getting, since PSN+ has the option of getting full game demos, I think companies need to start doing full game demos (ex. Infamous), so you can see what you are getting, and if you determine if it's worth the price of $10 or more.

rdgneoz35024d ago (Edited 5024d ago )

I can see full game demos for $60 games, or even some $20+ games that have a lot of content to it. But for 15 and under, just a regular demo will do (I hope more developers release demos for like $10/$15 games. Some seem worth it but you never know till you've tried it). Seeing as you can beat many downloadable games within that time frame of a full game demo (1 hour). DeathSpanks' demo was good, it was like 25 or so minutes of game play, and you could do a bunch of quests and such during that time.

t0mmyb0y5024d ago

Is worth the extra little bit. Im still playing it, making hard levels for my friend lol

adlt5024d ago

Anywhere from five to ten dollars would fit my bill. I don't mind paying more than that though if it has a lot of content, is enjoyable and has a fairly good replay value. It's all up to the game really.

ssbains5023d ago

I bought Trine on sale for $9.99

Darkstorn5023d ago

I think Trine is one of the most polished PSN games available, and is well worth $10 when you consider the offline coop capabilities.

New Project Is So Ambitious It Would 'Seem Impossible' Even With a 1,000 Person Team

Hello Games' new project would feel impossible to create even with 1,000 people behind it, the developer has said.

Speaking to IGN, studio co-founder and managing director Sean Murray said that, while it's not a sequel to No Man's Sky, the new game is just as ambitious.

phoenixwing733d ago

Sean really? Haven't you learned a thing since your first game about over promising?

porkChop733d ago

I was about to say the same thing.

roadkillers732d ago

I was tooooooo. Seriously others weren’t thinking it lol

Bobertt732d ago

He didn't promise anything though.

1nsomniac732d ago

Here we go again…. Yes he did. That’s why there was a class action lawsuit against him. With an ultimatum. That’s why we’ve received a free overhaul of the entire game.

Old McGroin732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

@ 1nsomniac

What exactly has he promised about the new game? All I can see is him saying it's ambitious.

Edit: Hold on, maybe you're talking about No Man's Sky?

1nsomniac732d ago

My bad, yes I’m talking about No Mans Sky.

thorstein732d ago

Oh, but if we want to hate something, we need to read into everything and create our own narrative./sarcasm.

If he hadn't learned anything, he would have offered a long list of specific features, released an E3-style pre-rendered cinematic trailer labeled "in-game footage", and made the round of talk shows gushing his enthusiasm for the project.

All we have here is: "We're working on something. It's a challenge for us."

If anything, he has demonstrated again and again that he has learned to be very disciplined in how he communicates with the public. He doesn't even make promises regarding updates to NMS until after they have released. All we get ahead of time is a single, cryptic emoji on his Twitter feed.

Kados732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

It seems to have been mostly just a matter of him underestimating the time it would take to do what they wanted with it. They have yet to announce a release date for the new game, so they have as much time as they need for a proper launch this time around.

NMS is also currently far beyond what was ever promised.

Abear21732d ago

It’s like he’s trying to throw all the good will away that he’s earned with these free updates. Under promise-Over deliver. The hype train that leaves too early will likely run out of steam before it’s destination.

Bathyj732d ago

Well that's just poor planning of your resources. I don't see what time you leave having any bearing on fuel

-Foxtrot732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

This guy literally deserves no sympathy if he does it again

This is the equivalent of 16x the detail

Magog732d ago

C'mon now haters. How many teams this small even have the guts to try to make games this ambitious? Most of them are happy to make the billionth pixel art rogue like.

H9732d ago

Oh hello Sean, are you even done with No Man Sky's original promises yet

arkard732d ago

I think no man's sky has actually surpassed its original promise at this point.

JEECE732d ago

By far. Particularly since about 40% of the promises they supposedly made were just things the community made up from watching trailers.

IRetrouk732d ago

Why does everyone forget about the office flood?

eXclurel732d ago

They did and they continue to add on it.

MrNinosan732d ago

They did many years ago and surpassed those promises by miles.

Kados732d ago

All the original promises were met by v1.5 "NEXT".

Vithar732d ago

here we go again LOL Sean calm down

BrainSyphoned732d ago

So go the Star Citizen route and get paid for your idea. Then you can create infinite ideas inside a game while never releasing the game.

Moe-Gunz732d ago ShowReplies(1)
Si-Fly732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

‘You can experience parts of Star Citizen now’ would be a more accurate statement.

What an amazing story, Joe Danger was a fantastic game and hearing about these kinds of stories makes me much happier than hearing adults bicker back and forth about which animations a game is re-using and the amount of pixels on the screen.

This is what gaming is really about and I feel like some people just tend to forget that

Steam Deck Launch Delayed

According to Valve: “The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates. Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022.”

Totally understandable given the current climate, but also a big blow for hype for sure. I would not be surprised if there was a further delay down the road, given how unpredictable assembly lines are at the moment.

0rbital71887d ago

suits me cos i cant afford mine till after xmas haha

Teflon02887d ago

Literally what I just said out loud lmao. Mine was Q1 it said already. But this just makes it perfect for me if the earliest is Feb, mine will probably be April or later which is outside all the releases I care about

VenomUK887d ago

It's understandable as all manufacturers are supply constrained of components. It just means that 2022 is going to be SO stacked!

roadkillers887d ago

Why do people always say "current climate"? What are the origins of this highly corporate statement?

ActualWhiteMan887d ago

Current Climate is 45 degrees Fahrenheit where I am HBU? 🤣

Sgt_Slaughter887d ago

Just felt like using it, works for the context of the situation

blacktiger887d ago

ikr, people are brainwashed

blacktiger887d ago

oh lord this guy believes in climate bs

AmUnRa886d ago

And some people dont want to see the truth and are brainwashed and think there is nothing wrong with the climate and dont want to see al the signs that indicate that there is defenitly a change in the climate worldwide.

blacktiger886d ago (Edited 886d ago )

by listening to others is not truth, seeing for yourself is truth. But people are used to so called television and media oh yeah and government but not with their own eyes ever! That's a hard fact. Ice melt, and you all believe it. Volcanoe hit and you all believe it, this has happened even in the Bible so what climate change for 10, 000 years?

Fishy Fingers887d ago

Year on and we still cant easily buy consoles or GPUs. No surpised.

Orchard887d ago

That's a bummer, but only 2 months, and understandable given how unpredictable HW is right now.

phoenixwing887d ago

Disappointing but not really surprised. I'll still be waiting and keep my pre order

Eonjay887d ago

Feburary seems to be the month everything is releasing now.

Si-Fly886d ago

Until the next round of delays 🤣
