HipHop might want to not start his show speaking in hyperboles and absolutes, because at first I was very irritated, thinking he was saying that Carmack and his engine couldn't compete. Later he restates his position as "Rage (and Carmack) are great, it just impressive that someone is showing similar visual fidelity". That is a reasonable stance. The beginning of the show seems completely irrational however.

i know that it may also help it, but for the most part, if you play with a certain group of friends everytime, where you guys all go on at the same time (my friends and i always do it) then wouldnt that mean that it could possible cut the sales by atleast half cause then only one person would need to buy it and everyone else can just gameshare it?, cause i game with between 2-6 ppl on xbox at the same time, so if I only require to buy it, and we all play at the same time anyways, then THEY wouldnt ever have to buy it, correct?

I've only actually used game sharing once myself, so I'm not sure if this is true of every game, but in my case, the game I shared could only be used on one of the shared PS3s at a time. So if you shared a multiplayer game with the intent of playing with your friends, you would not be able to do so as you could only use it when your friends were not using it.

Despite that limitation though, game sharing is fantastic from a consumer point of view. I can understand why devs may not be thrilled about the idea though.

Game sharing would be awesome for co-op games, it just really sucks everyone has to buy the game to play co op. A lot of my friends are more casual and won't buy every game so I'll never get co op. It would definitely make me buy more co-op games if it didn't require my friend to buy the game too.

From what I've seen of Rage I think it looks very good graphically but the gameplay I saw just looked a little boring to me. I've not seen much of Rage so I have a malleable opinion on this, mind you. I don't understand your question. What's better than Gears of War 2 on the 360? Well, Alan Wake probably looks better. But then again, Gears of War 2 looks better than all but maybe 2 or 3 games on the PS3, so it's not like it is a bad looking game.

After Gears of War 2 came out a few of the PS3's biggest exclusives came out, like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and God of War 3. But things are always changing and now upcoming games like Gears of War 3, Crysis 2 and Rage look like they will surpass those previous games. Even Enslaved is right up there with those games.

Both Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb agreed that RAGE was the best game at the E3. This is comparing it w/ Vanquish, KillZone3, Black Ops, Gears 3, Crysis 2, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier(my fav), inFamous 2, and Assassins Creed 3. If you listen to their commentary when they were speaking to the developer, everyone was blown away and compared it to PC-Like graphics. They weren't that excited about game since Uncharted 2 and we saw how that turned out. I want both of these titles, but I hope KZ3 turns out to be like promised. They revamped that controls, so I am anxious to see how that works out. The fact "id" made the visuals that stunning on an open world format was amazing in itself. People have to remember that KZ3 is linear and shooting missions are rail-based in order to tell a story. If they put those visuals in an open world, it would be unbelievable. I can't wait for either. Gotta come up with an illness quick, so I can call in sick

I haven't played either yet, but I will say that I did get a chance to see Rage at E3 and it looks stunning. Everybody was talking about it. IGN gave it their "Game of Show" award and the G4TV guys were also really impressed with it.

Honestly, it is the best looking game I have seen running on a console and it blows my mind that Id were able to get it running at 60FPS. Like you said, that is literally twice the frame-rate as most console games.

There is no doubt that Killzone 3 looks fantastic, but when you compare them side by side I would have to say Rage looks better, not to mention it also has twice the frame-rate.

I know there's a lot of 360 fanboys pining their hopes on ID beating out Guerilla on the graphical front, but with a budget difference of possibly $40-50 millions dollars, one doesn't need to think very hard which game is going to have the higher production values. It's already apparent looking at how static environments are in RAGE. The animations in RAGE are already stilted in comparison and that's where the discrepencies just begin. F**k fanboyism and use logic for a sec: $60-80 million dollar budget vs. $20-30? KZ2 wasn't exactly a flop, so the production quality is going UP from an already HIGH standard.

But even assuming for the sake of argument that RAGE "does" end up looking better than KZ3... which console is going to have the better texture quality with "streaming" textures and disc space being a requirement for "megatextures"? It's obvious the PS3 with 25-50 GB is gonna win out a 8-16gb multi-disc.

Each bullet in killzone carries some sort of physics that not only destroys the enviroment but makes your enemies flail depending on where they get hit. In rage the enviroments dont seem destructable and the enemies just kinda keep going at you depite being blown half to hell by a shotgun. Art style is quite subjective however rage definitely has a advantage due to the colorful enviroments. If lighting is anything like killzone 2 was in killzone 3 then i really doubt rage will fare any better than that. The reflections and shadows of killzone 2 are not being surpassed by rage. Rage looks like a lot of fun. Its face paced, the art design is good, and the extra goodies are enticing. But even if it runs at a faster frame rate that killzone, to me killzone brings a better overall technical package due to those little extra details that i have not quite seen in the rage gamefootage.

Everyone's talking about how great it looks and this and that about the 360 version, and granted it looks pretty good; but everyone's forgetting how a whole faction was removed from the game, gimping the PC and PS3 version. By ignoring that things were removed from the game only makes Rage appear less than phenomenal overall, which is probably why they are demoing on the 360, like the graphics had anything to do with why they removed the faction (which it didn't, it was about disc space issues).

Besides, like I said earlier, I'm waiting for rage to have environmental-wide particle effects to be applied like they were in killzone 2 before I say Rage looks "better", because there seems to be a trade-off between textures and effects in Rage whereas Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 seems to have both going for it. Killzone 3 may not be the king in the end, but I'm looking at all factors between Killzone 3, Rage, Crysis 2, and my personal favorite, Halo:Reach.

I'm also looking for destructibility in Rage and Crysis 2 as well as Killzone 2 and see which one will exceed in that aspect as well.

I have know doubt the Rage on PS3 will not look as good as KZ 3...BUT...Rage on 360 will look better than KZ 3, no doubt about that. The game is an open world game that will rarely feature the same objects twice. Maybe they are showing the PC version? The graphics are stunning.

There is a reason that Rage is only being shown on 360, the same reason that Crysis is only being shown on 360. The same reason RDR turned out the way it did on PS3 and why MOH is a mess on PS3. These games are built on PC architecture and will struggle to play on PS3. Wait and see.

In the meantime...Rage has another year to polish it all up nice and shiny for the 360.

Don’t know about whether it will be open world or not, but its non liner.
An advice, play Fallout new Vegas first if you're planning on plying both it and Rage, I have a feeling it will be hard to look at after experiencing that level of graphics on a similar themed game.

On PC I think RAGE will look phenomenal in every way. The textures on the console versions are not as detailed, at least the 360 version isn't. I'm expecting great things from Carmack on the technical side of things. As for story and character development and things like that, RAGE might just be another post-apocalyptic game.

RAGE looks phenomenal and there is no denying that. However, so will KZ3, KZ3 was pre-alpha and Rage is far into it's development.

Also, from what I saw, KZ3 was a lot more chaotic and the animations were far better than RAGE especially the character animation...

What in the world are you talking about? Killzone 3 is scheduled to be released in February 2011, while Rage doesn't even have a release date. Id will only say that it will come out sometime in 2011. If Rage was going to be released so early in the year I guarantee you they would have a tentative release date.

It's very likely that Rage will release later than Killzone 3. So the most likely scenario is that Rage has further to go than Killzone 3.

You can't act like only Killzone 3 will improve in the coming months. They both will become more polished. However, I can tell you that games very rarely change that dramatically in the last 6 to 8 months leading up to release. What you see now is basically what we will get as far as graphics are concerned. I honestly feel that Rage has more impressive visuals than Killzone 3.

Killzone 2 still has the best animations of any game out there, and 3 takes it even further.

By animation, I mean the way the Helghan react to bullet hits and the way the melle attack are showcased... KZ2 still tops the list and KZ3 takes it further...

Just compare vids of enemies being shot in RAGE and compare a Helghast being shot... KZ2 itself had over 200 shot animation, highest among games.... KZ3 will take it further.. Also each bullet in KZ2 is ray traced with shots affecting due to recoil.

Releasing the SAME GAME with few additions (someone said jet-packs, snow levels... is this some sort of a joke? Sure, most of the franchises rely on this rule, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (think Half Life for instance) but at least throw a fucking bone once in a while.

But doesn't it seem kind of peculiar that when gameplay is shown for the respective consoles, there is always the bait and switch in play. Take platform exclusives for example. PC exclusives run on a pc, ps3 exclusives run on a modified ps3 or debugging ps3, and finally xbox360 exclusives shown running on a pc, then later shown running on a xbox360 console. But also not to mention there is really no true way to determine if your actually seeing a true representation of a xbox360 game running on the pc using a xbox360 controller.

People KZ3 is still in pre-alpha coding (at least what they've shown us is). It already looks as good as it's predecessor (KZ2) which (as we all know) is known as one of the best looking games for the PS3. Try not to look too far into comparing graphics til a more solid build comes out. I PERSONALLY, think it's going to be the greatest looking shooter to date, but it's still too early to judge.

Seriously, 360 nerds leave and never come back. This game is not even close to release. They are using MLAA for one and that instantly frees up the blurry quincunx from killing the textures. The Sony SDK has been massively improved. If you think this will not be the best looking console game out there you are purely dreaming. Nothing still has matched certain aspects of KZ2. Freeze Star Child's clip at 1:12/1:13 - where's the lighting/shadows on the characters? Where's the realistic physics on the death animations (they just plop almost as a recording, irrespective of environment)? Where's the character detail up close? Is there any teiring to Rage's environments or are they all connected limited view tunnels (be it indoors or with screen edges filled with rocks in the outdoor tunnels)? Where's the environmental effects (something akin to the undulating polygon waves of KZ3)? Are the environments completely static, or do they have properly moving/interactive elements (like the spinning turrets etc. in KZ3) but just haven't been shown yet? Will there be any spot lighting and proper shadows or is it all pre-baked? Can more than 3 characters be shown on screen at once - and if yes, outside of the 'tunnel view' environments (presuming there will be any)?

I can understand people preferring the art style of Rage or something, but when there's a quarter as much maths going on twice the frame isn't really that impressive imo. I don't want to be down on it, but some of hoopla - as if there's somehow this expansive all inclusive graphics but running at 60fps; it's just nonsense. There's sacrifices all over the place, evident at a glance (and not just against KZ3, but even alongside Crysis 2, if you can't stomach positive comparison of a Ps3 exclusive).

Also, the enemy AI and path finding seems more advanced than I ever saw in Killzone 2. Rage's enemies can flip off walls and climb and maneuver over the environment in pretty dynamic ways.

You also don't consider the areas that Killzone is weak, such as the textures. They aren't horrible by any means but the textures in Rage seem to show more detail. Also, other areas of Rage that have been shown are quite open and large. Then you have to consider that Rage's engine has to handle driving and car combat mechanics.

And don't try to downplay the difference in framerate. 60fps vs 30fps means Rage is rendering twice as many frames as Killzone 3. That's a very significant difference.

Yes and no. See i think you and others are 'underplaying' how many of those frames would be lost if you put back in all the things listed above that are evidently missing (these things aren't even mentioned, as if people don't even notice their complete absence - which to me is baffling).

Proper lighting, in particular, can absolutely 'kill' a games performance. I mean, destroy it. In Rage, it's completely absent. And that's without all the other things i mentioned (large swathes of polygon detail).

For sure. Agreed. But first thing i think when i see Rage, is 'nice aesthetic. Very almost primitive field of view, and linear environments, though. Reminds me a lot of Doom/Quake etc. Has the Carmack fluid polish, but is missing an awful lot of standard stuff to get that fluidity.' Well that's a judgement you are completely entitled to. Aesthetically, i'm not decided which i prefer (probably end up with both), but my 'technical' judgement (to the extent i understand these things) KZ3 at 30fps impresses me an awful lot more with what it's doing than what Rage is doing (or has been shown doing so far) at 60fps.

And zapping the water, Bioshock Much.

While i don't doubt that that ID will make a good game, Quakes,dooms,etc speak volumes.

Megatexture is decent and that is the best thing about rage.

Speaking of water, the water in Killzone 2 looked horrible. It didn't look realistic at all.

Rage topped the nominations for the E3 2010 Game Critics Awards, grabbing five nominations, so it definitely got people's attention. Quit hating on it just because it beats Killzone 3 in the graphics department. Who knows? Maybe Killzone 3 will be more fun to play. For now, though, Rage has better graphics.

Rage kills it for water effects, of course. And the novelty spouts run at 60fps! Just amazing!

Look at at Killzone 3's complete absence of lighting/particle effects, it's maximum three characters on screen, it's practically zero substantial environmental effects and interaction, it's linear tunnel vision non stacked environments!

Oh, wait, i've got them the wrong way round.

Anyway, enough ranting.

The fact is no 60fps game this gen will even touch the best 30fps game in terms of raw graphical fidelity END OF STORY. To think otherwise you would seriously have to be very VERY ignorant and stupid.

seriously i remember when being an american was about hardwork and determination to put out the best product regardless of what tools you have now its to hard so im going with the weaker easier way out

and at lagoon according to some other articles it turns out the reason developers aim for 30 fps isnt because the ps3 cant do 60 fps its because if the ps3 goes to 59 fps the system will automatically down scale to 30 fps
