As a female gamer, you hear a lot of different comments on Xbox Live from random players. it doesn’t take you long to realize that the majority of jerks on Live are not the most creative of people. You tend to hear the same comments over and over and often times verbatim. each person thinks they are the first person ever to say that. Yes, you are that smart and original. And by smart and original I mean you are the one millionth dumb ass to say that to me.

Idk why, but I always mistake female gamers for 10 year old kids when I'm gaming online. On topic however, I don't understand why female gamers get so much crap when they play online. I guess its the same reason bullies exist...they make themselves feel better by screwing with others.

They sound like girls because when microsoft made the headsets they didn't think girls were going to play, therefore they can't 'hear' the frequency (usually higher) that girls usually speak with.
They give away their headsets for 'free' with most consoles... so they had to go cheaper. and the girls suffer for it.
ps3 headsets, PC headsets. That issue doesn't arise.

PS3 gamers are lucky they dont have to deal with that because they dont all have headsets. Oh, but those that do resort to similar tactics...you can bet on that.

I'm tired of people insinuating that white people are the only ones who are racist or prejudice. That's just stupid. Look at Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They have both falsely accused white people of crimes, only to later have them be found innocent.

Im a white guy and have been called every racial slur in the book on Live. I learn most of the dirty words from kids half my age.

First thing my wife does before playing online is mute and turn down the volume on the headset. Quite pathetic actually. I should post some of the lame ass private messages she has received from people she doesnt even know. How sad a persons life must be to feel they need to harass female gamers. Especially those that actually try to pick one up...that is some sad shit. PSN does not seem to be near as bad, but very few even use comms and the population is a lot smaller. At least with Live you can mute, block, and avoid them for ever. One can also use the feedback system.

Maybe if you're playing UNO. If there's any kind of tactics used in an online game (Killzone, Burnout, RDR) over half of the people playing have headsets. PSN also has mute and block options.

Fair enough....It can't be easy for women on xbox live. They're gamers just like us but get harassed. Really though, she should just mute as she plays (like Halo 3 can mute people one at a time) so she doesn't shut herself out from the people who aren't prepubescent children.

I love online gaming but if I could change one thing is that there is an 18 and up category. Not sure how you can police that to make sure it's true but it would help out a lot with problems like this. Generally, the older someone is the more mature they are (generally, always exceptions)

Or at least ask for a Driver's license number but not sure if that would be the best way to go. It would at least be 16 and up which is a tad bit better [sometimes 17 and up though so either way seems like it might be a win].

Most of them are true. My friend always says this when he meats a girl over XBL "Wanna be my girlfriend or lets go out." Sometimes they laugh because some are over 20 and married others say no or nope. Then he gets embaressed and does not speak for about 5 min.

The funny thing is, my sister hears everyone one of these at least twice. I remember one time, she was in a CoD4 lobby. There was this really high pitched voice screaming at the top of his lungs, "I'm SO GONNA STICK MY DICK IN YOU!" My sister busted out laughing. She said, "How big are you down there?" He's like, "Um...I dunno." I then took the mic and said, in an extremely deep voice, "Maybe you should think about letting your balls drop before attempting to seduce me!" the PS3 online would be just as vile/sexist/racist/profanity ridden as XBL if more than 5% of people that played the PS3 online actually had headsets.

playing PS3 games online is like playing against bots, noone talks at all. since probably 95% of XBL members have headsets, of course youre gonna hear more idiots. good thing with 2 simple button presses you can permanently mute someone on XBL, and you can simply do party chat with your mates if you want, meaning you cant even hear the other people in the game. problem solved. cant do that on the PS3 either.

Actually it is. Try High Stakes Poker with Audio + Video. The worse things I've seen were on PSN (Klan Robes and hanging a black doll, woman defacating on cam) and the worse things I've heard were on XBL (really vile racist jokes/comments).

When I play MW2, almost everyone is miked up, however for some reason MW2 seems to really attract some degenerates on PSN. In months playing Killzone 2, with plenty of people using mics I've only found it necessary to mute one guy, once. I've never had any other issue gaming online with PSN. Plenty of people with mics, but they generally don't seem to think it's necessary to say every little thing that pops into their head.

I'm the same way. I use my mic all the time on PSN - I just only speak when I have something to say.

I used XBL for 2 years on the old Xbox and two years on my 360. I have to say, for me it was a breath of fresh air switching over the gaming online on the PSN. Instead of having to mute 6 guys at the start of every match playing shooters online, I was muting maybe one guy every 6 matches. What a difference (again though, MW2 seems to be the exception. And then only in Team Deathmatch. Most other modes seem ok.)

I hate to say it, but I think it's an American thing. Over 60% of all 360's are sold in the US. Gaming with more Europeans over PSN, they just aren't as mouthy/racist as US gamers. In fact, I came into a game on PSN where US gamers were trying to justify their use of racial slurs to some Brits who were taking them to task for being racist/homophobic asses. I really think it's a cultural thing.

from my experience on psn, i have never had a problem or heard anyone else have a problem on any game but call of duty, all the insecure tossers seem to gather there, resistance games- no problem, uncharted 2- nothing, burnout- nope u ge the picture lol

This article is great. I'm a girl gamer (more like Woman Gamer since i'm 28) as well but i don't go on any of the PSN forums and i don't play multiplayer online games so i don't have this problem. But i do like the disses she posted on the article. I might use them one day. Thanx! LOL!

Though i do visit some online game forums. But i don't blurt out that i'm a female or anything, and the forums i've gone to are better enough not to know that.
