Yeah, Lair deserved at least a 7.5/10 man. They say Lair has no innovation, but it does have innovation by effectively using the sixaxis motion sensing controls. I guess the Wii can only be called innovative for motion sensing controls. Stuntman suxxx...Who even buys Stuntman?. The showing of HAZE is way too dark to make out anything.

Have you played them? I've only played the demo of Stuntman but I enjoyed it enough to rate it 3/5. I have'nt played Lair yet so I would not know what score it deserves. But you have?

It's funny. Everyone said Lair was gonna be THE game of 2007, and get scores like a AAA title...like Bioshock. But, a gun toting coon with a robot side kick now that's wacky. Just kidding man, I think both games are incredibly nice and represents what they are very well. I just think that it is unfair and dishonest for you to say Bioshock is wacky, I am almost sure that if it was coming out for the PS3 you WOULD buy it in all it's wackiness.

To a certain extent, it okay and sometimes cool to be a fanboy of sorts, but you know you've gotten it bad when you call something garbage that you really know is not, just to annoy someone else.

Bottom line: Both consoles have GREAT games out and coming out, lets get back to giving credit where credit is due. The 360 to this point has a better lineup, the ps3 is more reliable and has a nice blu-ray player. Here is a non-fanboyish look into the future. The PS3 will have Multiple AAA titles out, and .65mm 360 will be out, and BOTH consoles will become great well selling must have consoles for non-psycho-pathic-dedicated fanyboy game console fans! (Wii already is.)

Simply to be on the safe side, I'm going to cancel my Lair preorder, and switch it to COD4 (which looks mindblowingly awesome) and wait for IGN and other sites to review the final build before deciding if I want it. I'm still hoping that Lair is fixed up a bit in its final build. It seems though that their biggest problem is with the missions.

But with COD4 I have no doubts that Infinity Ward will make an absolute monster of an FPS, and I'm dying to use my FragFX with some more games.

If you want a truly breathtaking dragon riding experience I recommend Panzer Dragoon 1, Zwei, and PD Saga(RPG) for Sega Saturn. Or Panzer Dragoon Orta for XBOX1.

Thats the problem with a crap (ill informed and inaccurate) review coming out first. Its so easy for others to just jump on the hate bandwagon. You'd know all about that wouldn't you? All you bots are declaring Lair a flop based just on EGM, even though they admit they review an incomplete copy. But you still take that as gosple because its what you WANT to believe. I Dont think anything I said was really that over the top. Bloodmask is a very anti-Sony person, so I think my response was proportionate to his posts, both current and previous. Hey, if he doesn't like the game he could always just skip the thread, its not like he owns a PS3 or ever will.

Maybe you think I took a cheap shot at Xbox and that upset you. I guess its kinda true, when defending sometimes you have to shoot back but I really didn't say anything I dont believe. I fully admit Lair wont be for everyone, but I think it deserves a chance and shouldn't be written off because of the EGM "review." We all know what the story was there, I dont have to go over it. And having watched this video right now I want it even more, and the reviewer seemed to give an average score, more for the fact it lacked multiplayer than anything. Thats doesn't bother me at all and I dont see Bioshock being marked down for it, and nor should it. It was a conscience decision. It goes back to what I said first, if this game had received only 9's from the start he might not mark it down so much for that, but since EGM already muddied the waters why not be a bit harsh. At least you wont be standing there alone.

I would agree with some of what you are saying. Look at Dynasty Warriors, gets average reviews at best but still fans play the heck out of it because it's their cup of tea. Personally I'm a big fan of Factor Five and generally know what to expect from them. As for not being able to run on the Xbox I'd agree, but it would definitely run on the 360(a little joke, I know what you meant) The only part that wouldn't work on the 360 would be the motion controls, everything else is possible. One last thing is that there are other games like this such as Drakengard for PS2, so it's not 100% original and I think the reviewers took this into account. People should listen to the reviewers "opinions" and stop staring down the number at the end of the review.

Massive, carnage ridden battlefields? Check.
Orchestral score? Check.

I could care less what the critics think. The problem with being a critic, is that you are so saturated in the medium that you never really see things objectively anymore. Ask a homicide detective what they think about the crime rate. Ask a plastic surgeon what they think about the symmetry of your face. Ask a movie/ music/ video game reviewer what they thought of a product, and they've probably "seen it before" in some regard or can find fault with it. They are critics, they are paid to critique, and too often criticize instead.

I'm a gamer, I enjoy the experience of gaming. If I put a game in and it engages me, it's a winner, end of story.

reviewers are so caught in find all the faults in a game that they don't take the time too sit back and enjoy it. Take Spiderman 3 for example, the game was full of glitches and bad camera angles, but the game was fun it you look past the little issues. Truly agreed. Aside from different movies, it seems to have just the same or similair stunts for the whole game and with such mediocre graphics, why framerate is NOT 60 is puzzling. With Burnout Paradise, all these games look and seem terrible.

I may buy Stuntman but no way in hell I give it the same score as Lair. I love Factor5 and love Lair and for me, its a great game and a must have.

With all the great reviews for Bioshock on how great a single player experience it is you'd think that people would open there eyes to singleplayer again but it seems they pick and choose which is very subjective. That's the main reason I can't put a lot of faith in reviews.

With all the great things goin on in Bioshock why shouldn't it have MP and why should Lair? It just doesn't make sense to me so I'll spend my $60 based on my own judgement.

It comes down to the "What do I do now" factor after beating a game. Customization has kept reviewers from complaining about Bioshock's lack of multiplayer because you can play the same area a thousand different ways. With Lair it's more about the first time experience, how large and beautiful the landscape is, awesome music, the gigantic battles. But when it comes to what do I do next there's just not the amount of variety in gameplay that Bioshock has. I really don't think that not having Multiplayer weighed in that much of the score, it was more of an after thought.

It reminds me of GTA in a sense. 90% of the time I play GTA just to wreak havoc and see what ensues. That's entertainment. I look at Lair the same way.

I get to take a dragon into a 30 kilometer battlefield and do whatever the Hell I want to anyone and anything I want. I can totally see several youtube videos showcasing the creative things people will do in this game. Imagine grabbing another dragon by the face with YOUR dragon and smashing it into a group of soldiers on a bridge.

I imagine I'll play it through once for the story and missions, and once that's done, time to screw around and experiment. I can understand that the game won't be well received by everyone, but I like the idea of flying a dragon around a huge, expansive environment littered with victims...that's just me.

This is my opinion on Lair.. If you look in my history you will see that i've always been exited about this game and I still think I'm going to like this game very much...

I won't deny that reviews have been a bit unstable, it's apparent that the game is not going to have the reviews many of us expected.

The thing is that I'm still exited about this game, because the main thing that got me exited in the first place was the "epic" aspect of the game, the visuals, the environments, the amount of dragons and soldiers, all the mayhem happening at once, the music etc...

All of that have been praised in each and every review, so I'm exited about that.

The gameplay "apparently" is not that great, but I'm not that demanding of gameplay.. What I mean is that if the game has a smart and interesting gameplay where I can enjoy the visuals and music while I play and I can say to myself "damn this game looks beautiful" then I'm all for it.

The gameplay I've seen on video so far looks like good enough gameplay for me.. You can fly wherever you want, fight against other dragons, kill and hijack other dragons, land, burn soldiers or eat them (I think) slow motion hits.. all that apart from the objectives..

Also you can enjoy the visuals and environments while gliding just above the impressive ocean.. I mean So far I'm sold for this game..

The only thing that was keeping me confused about this game was the controls, but apparently they are doing just fine.. I made up my mind and I'm not going to pass out on this game for the controls.

Just my 2 cents on this game which I think I'm going to enjoy despite the reviews..

well generally when you play a lot of games especially over a long period of time. You can generally tell which games are going to get good scores and which will get bad. Regarless i feel lair will do pretty well especially if advertised properly. I will be gettig it because i still think it will be a good game however the reviewer made a point that i pretty much missed the missios are very repetitive in the sense of attack this protect that. Expect above 7.5 reviews from ign and gamespt. those are the only 2 game reviews i take seriously anyway.

It is very difficult for a game to become a triple a title. I would expect that the game would have to have...

1. Almost all great (not just good) reviews.
2. Almost all great (not just good) word of mouth.
3. Which leads to sales in the multi millions.
4. A games so popular, so desired that it acually sells game consoles and turns it's developers into legends.

Halo, Zelda, Metal gear, Gears of War, GTA series (mostly because of controversy), Final fantasy 7, God of War, Mario anything, lol.

Bioshock may be next.

Now anyone who likes air combat games would probably get a kick out of Lair, and maybe even find it to be jaw dropping in some parts. Triple A title? Depends what you consider a AAA title. If you considered Ace Combat an AAA title, I'd say from what the reviewers have been saying and the scores, that it is up to that level. If you only consider MGS, GOW, or FFVII etc., no I don't think Lair will be the AAA genre revolutionizing title. Looks like I'm still picking this up for some dragon combat in between Warhawk and Heavenly Sword :)

Frankly, I'm much more excited about his then another Ace Combat game (even though I'm a fan of the series.)

And its pretty sad that most of the negativity came from one poor review (and I mean the review itself was flawed, not the score it gave.) The Bots jumped on it because they know this is a game they need to tear down because it shows just how much more action and detail PS3 can handle.

the main contention all the PS3 owners seem to have is not with what people say. People say great things about Lair!! (I know some will disagree with this, but every review has said some good things about this game)... Its with the scores. A lot of people just feel the scores aren't reflective of whats being said, or that any little negative thing about Lair will be emphasized too much and bring a score lower.

It's ashame that these games will be missed out on because of all of the hype generated by other titles! One thing I've learned is to not always or hardly ever take these reviews serious! There are many games that I personally enjoyed that got terrible reviews and always made me wonder what they were smoking as well as games that got good ones that I know they didn't deserve! You guys shouldn't take these reviews serious and just wait for a demo to make your own assumption! I personally love Shadow run and think that the reviews they gave it were unfair but honestly why should I even care!

The problem is with reviws is that they try to cover all gmers. They anicipate based on their scoring system that this is a bad gameplay. The graphics are awesome, the sixaxis system is great for this type of game. However the gameplay, flow of the game is out of the ordinary. So they think its not for everyone, and the game gets a lower score. However they are scoring Lair to low. I will buy this game cause its Far better than anything like it.

Like I tell my family about movie reviewers. They dumb it down for the masses. So more people can have an idea. But not too judge on what the reviewer said. For instance my, parents went to go see bridge of Terabitha, cause it got two thumbs up. they hated it, and i laught at em.

Well if you sony kids like Lair quit beeatching and buy it, but dont try to make out all the reviewers to be the bad guys, many of them have rated alot of sony ps2 games very high in the past and you sony kids took their word for it then but now that a game that was hyped by the devs, sony and sony kids to be an this mega game with the usual claims sony is known for is turning out as far as those who reviewed it so far are concerned the scores put it in the mediocore range, its OK nothing lives up to the hype but "hyped games" should at the very least be much better than mediocore of course you can disagree with the scores and question them but besides the sony kids on n4g many gamers like to see reviews from many sites before they spend $60 on something they might regret, especially when that $60 could be saved for a better game they might enjoy a whole lot more. They were a bit harsh on Lair, that video looked really fun and the no innovation comment was a bit strange. I coubld understand some of their reservation but they made it sound like they were bing generous given it three out of five.

I'm not too sure about timeshift at the moment, the whole stopping time thing and your suit doing if for you sounds a little unbalanced.

Jericho is looking really cool and i really like some of the ideas that are coming out of it.
I wish Naughty Dog would show us some of hte other levels on uncharted as i think this game deserves alot of hype.

@Bathyj - So let me get this right, just because someone thinks Lair looks crappy, than it makes them an "xbot" correct? I don't think I would consider myself an "xbot" but yet I personally don't think Lair looks that great. The graphics are pretty but nothing spectacular. The gameplay, which no I haven't played, looks like it could be pretty fun. Some of the stuff looks neat. But I think they gave it an average review because to them the missions got repetitive and there was no, or a lack of, multi player.

I think Uncharted looks great, but unfortunately I don't have a PS3 so I can't get it. And I don't think the preview of Haze looked good at all, especially to be making fun of Gears. I think it might be a good game but the preview sucked.

Honestly the scores seem right to me, I don't know why people hyped this game up so much. There was a video show where the main character was walking on foot but the developer said there will be no ground combat. Once he said that I lost interest, it seemed like a waste of graphics because the physics on his clothes moved so realisticly. I'm still going to rent this game, some will buy it. I just don't understand how people got more excited over this than Heavenly Sword. I guess it was supposed to be the first major title for the ps3. Well Warhawk is coming out next week.

1. Generic missions. Its kind of limiting what you can do with a dragon, no? Ever played the Star War Rogue Squadron games back on the Gamecube? limited, no? If its not your cup of tea, don't drink it. I personally loved Rogue Squadron and its limited, story based 'missions'.

2. Overused lighting. Can lighting be overused? Maybe the reviewer should have a flashlight to the face and see if he can see clearly. I've seen reviewers dog the PS3 for a lack of lighting. Now I see a PS3 game dogged for too much lighting.

3. No multiplayer. You can't review a game based on a function that was never designed to be part of it. Go play Warhawk.

Now, I have no problem with the first 2 comments that the reviewer made. It is his personal opinion. The problem is with multiplayer. This doesn't make sense to me. How many points did he knock off for a lack of multiplayer? If there is ever a game that could have multiplayer its Bioshock and yet people praise it for not having multiplayer. This makes no sense to me.

What I don't see reviewers doing is review simply on the merit/scope of the game. Present a game that could rival Lair in its grand scope? What other game can seamlessly flow from a macro to micro level? I know games are not supposed to be tech demos but this is one hell of a technological achievement. Would I prefer they make the game in 720P, get the frame rate higher, and worry more about game play elements ... sure I would but that wasn't my decision. If this is how Factor 5 wanted to display the PS3, I think they did a marvelous job.

Lair, in my opinion, is not possible on the 360. Would someone like to challenge me on this comment?

Problem is which type is actually reviewing/criticizing the
game.

From my perspective it appears that majority of Hard-Core Gamers are the ones that end up starting a magazine/review site. Hard-Core Gamers tend to be action driven not story driven and will enjoy online games more than off-line games.

I believe the Next Generation will bring back the Adventure story driven type gamer. Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted will only appeal to some. Uncharted and Stranglehold look to try to blend some of that on the PS3. Even though I'm an Xbox 360 user I do see Microsoft falling for the same problems they had with the Xbox 360. A narrower view of what gamers want. Xbox 360 caters to gamers and developers were as PS3 tries to inspire gamers and developers to do different or try different things.

For some, online game play with a simple short story that is enough to get the gamer started and they take over will be enough. Games like COD4, Halo, Resistance, Haze...etc.... will be enough for these folks.

However there is a lack of adventure/story driven games. Part due to that sort of gamer dying in the last generation of games. Perhaps these type of gamers will come back.

I'm just a gamer, stayed with it through all the changes but I am one of those that is getting burned out with online game play.

I'd never totally leave but its good to see that someone somewhere is pushing to bring back story driven single person games.

It would be nice to see more of these type of games on the xbox 360 without the need to cater to Xbox live or online gaming but perhaps the Xbox 360 community is just more of a certain type of gamer. Perhaps the PS3 community see a need for a different type of gaming experience. Both are good but will only appease so many.

Lair looks to be a very well done graphic adventure game. If Factor 5 is able to bridge the deepness of the story with the action this could very well be a 4/5 or 9/10 for those who like this type of game. Most of the time, Story driven gamers will actually be more forgiving of a games flaws if the Story/Plot can overcome the flaws. From what I see Lairs flaws are not that big and could be easily overcome by the adventure itself.

Uncharted looks to be an incredible adventure. It seems to do a very good job blurring the lines between an adventure game and Third person shooter. Can't wait to see more of it.

Of my favorite games, not all are graphic/perfect/wonder of a game. I liked Minority Report but that game never made it on the radar and see the hint of it in Stranglehold (which is why Stranglehold is a must for me this Christmas when I get my PS3)

And personally, I think this game probably would be much better to have a Multi player, BioShock on the other hand, yes it probably would be great, but I don't think it's a big deal that it's not there.

The size of the Blu Ray drive allows for Factor 5 to truly create some massive levels in Lair. What is true 1080p? Native support = true 1080p. I was really excited about Lair when I first got my PS3. But looking at the video they showed, while pretty, looks really...really...boring. It really doesn't look like anything that new except for the controls. I would actually say the same thing about Uncharted. It also is very pretty, but doesn't look like anything new.
My hopes for the PS3 are Heavenly Sword and MGS4. The Blu-Ray player still sits there waiting for some good software. Ugh.

We have no qualms about the platforming aspects of the game. However, combat proved to be difficult, due to its rather cumbersome controls, and buggy performance. The game employs a cover system, not unlike that found in Gears of War. For example, Drake can hide behind a wall, peek out and fire a few rounds. Then, he can run forward and take cover behind a rock. However, we found ourselves having a lot of difficulty "sticking" to the appropriate cover, in the direction we wanted to.

Gears of War features an elegant control mechanism, where all actions are performed through the context-sensitive A button. Uncharted uses multiple buttons on the controller for the same actions, which is certainly disorienting. In addition, we found ourselves constantly clipping through walls and other objects. We tried to take cover behind a wall, and as we rolled out, we found ourselves stuck inside a barrel. Then, we had to fight the camera, which had also become fixated on the wall. We were lucky to have somehow escaped before an enemy threw a grenade in our direction.

The camera simply doesn't feel intelligent enough: we were struggling to keep it in check at all times. It's too bad that uncomfortable controls, glitches, and a finicky camera are getting in the way of a potentially excellent game. We were impressed by the enemy AI: they take cover, try to flank you, and perform melee attacks when close. If any game needs to be delayed, it has to be Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" .

I left out the "we're" confident Drake will turn out alrught etc as thats just opinion and isn't proof things will be worked out.

You guys are funny, Bioshock is a pc game, that was also going to be developed for ps3,xbox360, until ms paid $$$. For a timed exclusive. I have the demo on pc running on a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700, with two 8800gtx sli, with 4gb of PC2-6400. Running @ 1920x1200. Its all fun.

My ps3 is for exclusive games. I'll be playing gears at that same rez sometime soon, also ut3:)

With my ps3 i'll be playing warhawk,hs,uncharted,r&c.

Why do the X360 fans want this game to do so badly?. It is really pathetic that you guys put down a game that you guys have no intention of buying or even had to play. Anyways game reviews are just like movie reviews in that they are just pointers. In the end it up to individual to find out weather a game is worth a buy or not. Even if Lair gets really low score i will still buy it as it is definitely a game that appeals to me.

they gave it 3/5 because of no multiplayer, too much lighting at times, and not being innovative. It took a big risk of using six axis which feels intuitive according to them, and does every game really need multiplayer? I don't think so. I was always a little skeptical about Lair from the beginning and I was going to wait for the reviews for this one. But the more I see about it, it looks more interesting. The reviews seemed very biased and no basis for their negativity. BTW, this game was never that hyped, actually Heavenly Sword was. HS was supposed to be the first true big game for the PS3. I'll admit, if HS bombs, then I'll be disappointed and kind of worried for Sony considering all the time, money, and hype for this game. Too me, Lair is looking more fun and better the more I see it, Heavenly Sword looks like its gonna kick some serious a**. Uncharted is probably the most anticipated game for me, HS being really close behind for this year.

Have you ever had that one music that you listen a few times and you're like "God this SUCKS!" but then it grows on you and you tend to like it?

That's how Redsteel was for me. Yeah, reviewers said it sucked bad. The only reason I got it was because I had very little games for my wii. The slow turning thing was horrible, enemies running to walls etc. It was pretty annoying. But then I began to grasp the game and it grew on me. I could actually ignore the problems and enjoy the game itself. I am not the only person to have realized this: Red Steel has sold just over a million copies even though it sucked.

Now with reviewers, they MUST have a review up by a certain time, so they have to speed play it. And what do they do when they speed play? They dont take the time to enjoy the game. They tend to look for the problems first and shining points later so they are guaranteed to have something to talk about; it's often easier to find faults in a game than to find something good.

As a result, we get games like Red Steel, Lair and Advent Rising not being appreciated for what they try to be.

Advent Rising was so awesome! I wanted a sequel. But all the reviewers wouldn't STFU about "ooh it's sooo like Halo" Shut the FCK up reviewers! Tekken is like Virtua Fighters but arent they both great?

The flick lock on was very nice. I want to see that implemented in another game in the future.
