Really its a toss up between Sony and Nintendo.

In terms of a show: Nintendo. Everyone was most surprised with them, we expected a lot less but they delivered a lot more. To the point, short and sweet, didn't drag on for too long. It was a good show.

Sony's was awesome, the ending was tight, but it dragged on at some parts that didn't matter to me personally. That's in terms of a show.

In terms of what E3 means in contexts: Both Nintendo and Sony.

The purpose IMO is to have the media/viewers walk out with confidence in the product's future and both Sony and Nintendo did that.

I don't care about crowning clear-cut winners. I just wanted to go in as a gamer who could speculate the future of the products and walk out knowing the industry had a bright future. Sony has a promising future. Nintendo has a promising future. Both for different reasons and in contexts of in the company itself.

i thought sonys was more entertaining imo. kevin butler, (the twistedmetal intro brought chills of excitment down my spine. (as so did the new DK game). i give a lot of credit to nintendo but if you look at it this way: what if nintendo announced ZELDA and a few other b4 E3 just like sony? then it would all come down to how much was delivered for the gamer, and then i would say it goes to sony. but they all did their thing nontheless, i give em all credit. but yeah your logic is correct, nintendo suprised us the most because they stayed quite up untill E3.

Goldeneye is going to be huge. But I agree with the article, Nintendo lost major points by screwing up the Zelda presentation. I also think its about time they retire some of these franchises and make something new. Their last new series-- Animal Crossing/Pikmin-- came out in 2001. I do think Nintendo put on a really good show, probably their best this generation. Im glad they steered away from the casual games a bit more. The main problem i had with nintendo's conference was that personally it didn't excite me. Why? I never had a nintendo console as a kid so i have no nostalgia to be excited about concerning nintendo. Kirby, donkey kong, zelda, star fox...they mean nothing to me, i just can't get excited about it. Sorry. I know it gets alot of others excited but thats because of their nostalgia. But it meant nothing to me. Thats why for me Sony wins. Though i wish they had shown some more titles like Starhawk and The Last Guardian...and Uncharted 3

Definitely between Nintendo and Sony.
I felt Sony started verrrrrry slow and ending with announcement after announcement.
Nintendo started with quite a few announcements and turned anti-climactic.
Sony showed footage of my most anticipated games, and announced Twisted Metal (Oh mah gawwwwwwd).
And then Kevin Butler appeared which was awesomeeeeeeeee.

I have to agree that it was very close between Sony and Nintendo. I was personally most impressed by Sony's conference, but I think Nintendo really needed a strong conference after some truly dismal showings, especially the infamous Wii Music debacle. So I can't help but feel excited for them. I think Nintendo reignited the fire for their hardcore fans. Congratulations to them on having such a great comeback showing. So I could see people leaning either way between those two. Microsoft? Well, it started off OK...

For the audiance having to ware white and then the scripted demo. It was just so freaking hilarious. All the while their presenters faking excitement while everyone is the audiance were just facepalming. It was pretty ugly.

Contrast this to Sony and Kevin, its like night and day.

i just finished watching microsoft's conference and the start was ok actually but all the parts with natal were just awful. The kid pretending the tiger was licking her.....the "twin" sisters talking to each other....the mountains of pre-recorded footage...THE LAG!! Seriously the lag! When they show that fitness game, there was a part were the woman was stretching left and right and left, and everytime she went one way, the avatar on the screen was in the opposite direction! The lag was TERRIBLE! And that fitness game was the ONLY demonstration i could see that was real time. The rest were so fake it was completely embarressing.

Nintendo is my personal winner. But then again I'm an N64 kid. I've been waiting for a true Zelda game. But to add icing to the cake, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby Yarn Thing (which looked amazing!), a new Goldeneye, and lastly the unveiling of the 3DS which hits ALL the right notes. Better graphics, 3D technology, videos, most likely music support, an analog nub, the new wi-fi technology, and so much more!

Second comes a close Sony. Although they didn't show Agent, or The Last Guardian, they still came through with Killzone 3, PS Move, LBP2, Motorstorm: Apocalypse (amazing), Infamous 2, Portal 2, Twisted Metal and of course the biggest one GT5's release date!

Microsoft on the other hand, had nothing that really interests me except Gears of War 3. Halo Reach is just more Halo, Fable 3 is just another promise by Peter Molyneux that it will transport us to another dimension, and Kinect is way too gimmicky.

Although I'm still interested in the new Xbox though, that's probably the BIGGEST highligh for the 360 is the improved hardware and value. But all it did was just try to be a PS3-phat with no blu-ray player. I might end up getting one anything though LOL.

Both Sony and Nintendo had great conferences, but I would give it to Sony simply because the expectations for the Wii were so low, because they haven't given us anything worth mention at an E3 in the last 2 years.

Nintendo did a brilliant job this time, but Sony has consistently done amazing each and every year, if Nintendo manages to pull through with another E3 like this for 2011 then They just might take the show.

No way, past performance can not influence the way you rank the conferences. Well ok, for you it can, but that is akin to saying well even though the Phillies won the World Series we are still going to give it to the Yankees because they perform year to year.

I didn't get to watch the Nintendo event because I only had my 3g connection available, so I watched a liveblog of it. And all I can say is every time I checked the update I wished more and more I could actually be watching it.

Nintendo gave it to us this E3, it was hit after hit. Now I will say that Sony's showcase was awesome...super excited myself. But I'd have to say my biggest letdown also came from Sony...no PSP2.

Nintendo gave us the 3DS w/MGS, and Kid Icarus, a new Goldeneye, a new Zelda, a new DK ala the 2D version from SNES.

Nintendo with a close second by Sony and a DNF for MS.

Couldn't agree more...Nintendo wowed me with all the updated classics and the Mickey Mouse Game...Can we say DONKEY KONG COUNTRY? Rayman was stunning too...and Sony of course was my personal winner because of the genre of games i play. Twisted Metal is gonna kick ass, Medal of Honor excites me to get away from playing Call of Duty, and KZ3??? Nuff said.

Sony though i was a bit dissapointed we didnt hear anything about agent or resistance 3, lbp 2 though looked amazing and twisted metal looked lots of fun i felt that they also showed a few to many multiplatform games and shouldve concentrated more on their exclusive games, i dont really care that much if in medal of honour i get an extra map although it did look good, psp also a bit of a letdown i wanted to hear about patapon 3 or some other new exciting game, o well hopefully next year well hear more about new hardware im expecting psp2 to be annouced

Sony probably won in my opinion. They covered both their core audience and their upcoming casual offering very well. And even after all the pre event announcements still managed to surprise with games like Twisted Metal.

Nintendo came storming back this year. No question about it. That 3DS is going to sell very well and will dominate the handheld market for some time to come.

Microsoft…. Had some neat stuff .The ESPN for Xbox live looked great, as did the gesture control for the console itself. The Xbox 360 S would have had a bigger impact if it weren’t leaked the day before. As for the software? Weak.
Microsoft WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You have a great studio in Rare, why the hell are they wasting their time on a Wii sports clone? Surly another studio could have handled this mini game rubbish? All you had to do to sell Kinnect to the core gamer was show us a couple of good games. I mean how does somebody like Peter Molenux see this device and not say to himself “ Man. Black and White would be great on this thing. We should totally make that.” Or “Hey you guys at Rare should do a new Viva Piñata game for this. It would kick ass.”

As an Xbox fan I have been let down by Microsoft this year. I have read the feedback on Major Nelson’s website and it’s not pretty so hopefully the message is getting though to the right people at Microsoft. My advice to them would be to buy or create some bloody studios and start making games. Nobody cares if you have Call of Duty DLC a month before the other guys. Just make some new games before you become irrelevant.

Sony had so much awwsome stuff they could not fit every game into the show. Twisted Metal,kill Zone 3, little big planet 2 ....try that for size.I also enjoy the new MOVE technology,,,it has a good price point and integrates with both casual games and the hardcore crowd.

Seriously, Nintendo didn't spend 5 seconds on worthless banter on their advertising strategies, They didn't showcase shovelware like sony did, they only showed one awesome announcement after another for 2 hours.

Nintendo brought the gold and it amazes me that anyone would still say sony's conference was better, the entire first half hour was tainted by Nintendo offering goggleless portable 3d while sony you need to pay $3000 for a new tv to actually see killzone 3 as it's intended.

Not to mention $100 move bundles that don't include the Nunchuck analog stick. Something that costs 30 bucks!!!

Not to mention sony announced that that now you have to pay for a 2nd tier of online. Meaning they will likely gimp the free service to entice you.

This is just like I said, even if nintendo won everyone on here would be completely unable to accept it. That has come to pass. Anyone with half a braincell has to admit Nintendo actually won it this year with innovation. Everyone else was reduces to a me too by comparison.

Does 3 notable and unexpected reveals and one amusing comedian really equal the epicness of what nintendo pulled off today? I think not.

Yeah Nintendo finally focused on core games but they were just good for wii games. (Don't get mad at me, Nintendo made the choices they made so now they live with them, it made them a lot of money, but Mario galaxy 1 and 2 are the only 2 games on the wii library I've seen that has lived up to the original Nintendo pedigree) Sony came out in a BIG way. That PSP line-up was epic (god of war:ghost of sparta, parasite eve:the third birthday, mod nation racers psp, valkaria chronicles 2, Patapon 3, The YS series coming back) Simply put, from a gaming point of view the PSP outshined the 3DS. (Even IGN said there were very few must see games for the 3DS) Move was surprising to say the least, I was expecting nothing but shovelware but that socery game looked solid (I also saw Echochrome 2 is gonna use it) In terms of PS3 games they stood alone. Nintendo showed off sidescroller after sidescroller and a bunch of older games they slapped new paint on (Nintendo always gets this free pass for supposedly bringing great new ideas, but all I saw was games that were possible on N64 and the super Nintendo, hell I've already played some of these games Nintendo was showing) Zelda and Epic Mickey were the only wii games that looked like current gen games. Sony had showed Motorstorm 3, Socom 4, Gran Turismo 5, Sly Collection, Little Big Planet 2, Killzone 3, and Twisted Metal (personally this left a bigger impression than the Zelda reveal)

And Sony SHOWED their games, a lot of the games that Nintedo talked about they just showed the logo and on the show floor 90% of Nintendo's 3DS games are non-playable trailers. I would say even though Sony had a lot of talking, they still managed to show more gameplay than Nintendo and MS combined. Yes, it's a beautiful change of pace that Nintendo finally remembered they're a video game developer, but lets not give them "the best of E3 award" because of that.

Long Story Short: Sony pulled a three-peat.

Little Big Planet 2 alone is more promising than every wii game combined. That's just the plain truth. In fact, you could make better games in LBP2 in 24 hours, than those wii titles.... that's sad.

And wii motion is obsolete. PS Move is by far the better option. Which is fitting, since they are the veterans in this category pushing their technology from the PS2 EyeToy.

I find it funny when people like you chastise nintendo for continuing beloved franchises but then calls a sequel to something originally dubbed "not the kind of game that needs sequels" better then a new metroid, a new zelda and a new DKC BY RETRO(something i'm very excited for). It's game creation software... they have that on Live and for iphone and you can actually make money off that.

I am basing my belief that nintendo won based on what matters in a press conference... showmanship. Sony had long dragging bits and numerous time filled up by their new ads.

Nintendo didn't even feel it necessary to show a graph this year, it was 100% announcements. It's just common sense. Let nintendo have it this year cuz they earned it.

But who am i arguing with here.. yet another person who dismisses nintendo because they are apparently insecure with their own level of maturity. Enough to actually pass on games because they don't market their games to 12 year olds who gotta play only tough games with a bland colors.

I remember when Mortal Kombat was popular when i was younger and I had the same mentality where i thought if I was playing games that had no blood or violence then it wasn't cool.

Since then i realized it takes far more maturity to respect games for unique controls and what amount of fun they are then basing my assumptions on the content alone.

Let's face it... the kind of kid i was at age 12-17 is exactly who Sony markets to today. If you call driving cars around with machine guns and more guns and more blood more mature then a game like zelda that takes thinking, knowledge of your surroundings and strategic fighting more then think fast and shoot quickly gameplay. Then I don't wanna play mature games.

I was honestly surprised when the website said Sony had won. And Nintendo came in second because...not enough new IPs? Look at the other conferences and you'll find exactly the same situation. And...the Zelda demo was a bit sketchy...because of some uncontrollable and unforeseeable factor that doesn't impact how the game actually works at all? Yeah, it was, but that is no reason to think the controls are in reality horrible. Why the hell would anyone seriously contemplate that Nintendo's most treasured franchise would be given complete crap and malfunctioning controls that don't even stand up to previously released Wii Sports Resort? I wouldn't mark them down too much for something they couldn't control.

Nintendo had everything. They had hardcore games, they had retro games, they had re-makes, new sequels and old revivals. They had new hardware, new tech, a new platform, incredible third party support, and even a few casual games if anyone was interested. They had games I've seen people wishing for for years. For once Nintendo delivered what everyone actually wanted and more. They said they wanted to surprise us, and they sure did, over and over again. Sony had some good stuff too, though I admit I'm not that interesting, but I don't think it's on the same level as the sheer number and shock of the Nintendo announcements.

Sony loses because there showing was, besides Portal 2, nothing big. I mean all they did was entertain, not infrom. Nintendo's was best because they delivered so so so much. And Microsofts was okay mostly because of the last 5 minutes.

3D failed to impress me in any way, neiter did any of the gimmick peripherals.

I judge E3 by games and new console showings. 3DS and 360slim went at it, but the 3DS came the winner, its easy to impress casual people. In terms of games, Ps3 came out huge, with nintendo a close second.

In general, Nintendo and SONY had fantastic press conferences, while M$ laid a huge egg.

I don't own a Wii so for me Sony won (Nintendo did put on a good show). The Gran Turismo 5 release date alone was enough to make me happy this E3. MS what an embarrassment they performed a Natality, space ponchos & a tacky gimmick, does it even work? hard to tell when it's set up & not live demo.

I only saw the Sony press conference as just got back from hol. Thought it was very entertaining, Kevin Butler was awesome. I would have liked to have seen a new IP from Sony, Im still not interested in Move as were still missing that killer app. The trailer for The Shoot really made me cringe!!! Nicest suprise for me as Gabe up on stage, will deff be getting Portal 2!

Nice to have a date for GT5 even though its ages away still. I will be buying all the sequals as they are a given. Unfortunatly the biggest announcement in most peoples eyes was wasted on me as I never liked Twisted Metal. I was excited though when I saw the 2 guys chatting infront of a cab, thought it might have been exclusive GTAV. Was sad :(

On MS conference.. I will totally be getting a new 360 although im really miffed that we have to wait a month here in the UK grrrr. Halo Reach and Gears 3 are day one purchases!

I think it really is debatable on who actually "won" E3 between Nintendo and Sony. They both delivered what most gamers wanted, and both delivered games that people have been waiting on for years.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, and they are very much equal, but one could argue that Nintendo gets the edge due to the 3DS alone.

Why did NIntendo win? Cause I dont own a PS3 of course. Since I dont own one Sony cant be the winner. I cant give credit to a product I dont support and prefer to live sheltered in my own little world where I can base everything on whether I own it or not, not how good it actually is.

but I would say SONY is first coz there one was more entertaining where fun is concerned. Nintendo for the first time had a good conference in my opinion or else every year its boring. Microsoft wouldn't have been that bad if they hadn't relied on Kinect too much!

Nintendo won the show in terms of presentation and wow factor, I havn't even seen the 3ds yet, but the way they did talk about it made me believe it! After also reading up on the various gaming sites "hands on" impressions I can now firmly say 3ds will be my next definite hand held purchase.

Sony won the show in terms of amount of content mentioned and lasting interest factor. Meaning even though most of the things mentioned were "meh", it would be these "meh" things that we would be playing and using more often than the nintendo stuff. Even now I can only pretty much play Wii for about 1 hr spurts(unless its Tatsunoku vs Capcom, New Super Mario Bros and Monster Hunter). Sony was not really impressive per se, but the stuff they showed is future proof and lasting. I can see myself playing twisted metal or Kz2 much longer then goldeneye(only because component cables make my eyes tired on the HD tv, and I think most of the nintendo owners with HD tv's and another console will agree as well). If you are a simple Wii owner then I am sure you can play it for hours and hours. For people with choice though, we will only be playing it alot when we first get the game, and then in incremental spurts here and there. Mind you, this is just my opinion, and I am not trying to speak for others.

It is not that the Wii is bad(IT IS AWESOME, I love my super mario bros, smash bros, tatsunoku vs capcom!), it is just the hardware is limited in a way that I tend to always go back to my ps3 or xbox360 to refresh my eyes.

Overall though if I had to give it to one, it would be Nintendo.

O.k. sony was cool great games but from what i'm reading many people dont like nintendo because they dont have any new ips but what is everyone talking about for sony LBP, Killzone,Twisted Metal. Same games they have been relying on for the past 10 years look into the future they will take up the same thing nintendo has because if you make money then why not. I personally cant wait for Killzone 15. But my biggest disapointment from sony was the Sony Wii, which is what move really is I mean its cool and will probably work better than the wii, but its nothing new.

Nintendo however, same games as always just done better than last time, which is all they really need, If something works then dont screw with it if you make as much money as they do off of zelda then you would make them time and time again .But, i agree they do need something new. The 3ds all i have to say about it is wow, 3d without glasses, and on a handheld, awsome. Plus the graphics are really good alot better than the wii, still nowhere near 360, ps3 but like I said a handheld.
