I love shaking my console while it's booting up the games. I mean what if I want to be able to take it with me to the kitchen while waiting for the game to load? I know I'm not alone with this.

ingiomar5053d ago

Nooooo i play all while walking around in the kitchen all the time i want my 360 with me!

WhittO5053d ago

OR, maybe when you take it downstairs from your room to watch something with your family ?

Its ridiculous that it STILL does this, really MS, why didn't you fix this?

Guess that shows its mostly still the same inside since they only overcame RROD by adding more vents/smaller processor (less heat produced)

GrieverSoul5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

I know you guys will eat me alive on this one but sometimes I move my console to replace some cables on the back of my tv. Sometimes I do it while its on but not on purpose. Sometimes I do it while a game is paused. Thank god my PS3 doesnt scracth or destroyes my discs.

SillySundae5053d ago

I have my x360 in a pretty sturdy cabinet.
I hope me jumping around won't cause too much shake to do this.

Conloles5053d ago

Why couldnt it have been Call of Duty or a game worthy of being scratched.

Imtey5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

That was quick...

Christopher5053d ago

Screw moving it while a disc is loading, reviews have said it still sounds just as loud as the original. Why couldn't they at least fix that? Couldn't we have gone without touch-sensitive buttons and gotten a few more bucks thrown at reducing the sound?

presto7175053d ago

That sounded like a freaking bomb was going off.

lOL. MS will always be MS with all their little quirks like scratching disks and flashing lights.

table5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

This is frightening for the 360 with Kinect actually, I never thought about this until now. I remember a UK Watchdog program investigating Microsoft for the 360 scratching discs and it found that the cause was from vibrations, possibly people jumping, or even walking near your xbox if you have a slightly damaged floor.

These Kinect games are all about movement, lots of jumping, stamping and running. I would bet that there are going to be loads of reports of scratched discs as a result of Kinect even with this new redesign. This is a serious disaster in the making for Microsoft here. Infact, I challenge one of you bloggers out there to make an article on this because it'd be a very valid important read.

jjacinto235053d ago

why they didn't solve this problem?........ you saw the guy move it because he wants to see it standing and guess what nobody told them not to move it till the guy guy moved it? how come?so u can't blame owners of SCRATCH DISCS............men some people didn't get the point of this at all

RedSky5053d ago

The fact there's so many disagrees here shows how much of a fanboy site this is.

This looks terrible, no two ways about it. If you're a 360 fan you should be annoyed at Microsoft for not fixing it, not disagreeing with people who aren't sheep.

Sure you wouldn't exactly plan to walk around with a 360 but imagine you decide to move it and forget the disc is in there. Bam, scratched disc.

-Alpha5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

This was a stupid thing to do and it was done purposely. Why would someone do that? If you nudged the 360 slightly and it ate your disc I would understand and blame MS but how can you blame MS when you purposely TILT the damn console?

I mean, it's on a disc tray, what do you think will happen?

Anyways, the disc tray should have been ditched, but why anyone would do this is beyond me. I suspect a desperate attempts at hits and trying to cause controversy all over again.

@Red

But this wasn't a real test was it? He purposely tilted the 360 to an unreasonable level where one would expect something wrong to happen. If he tested the breaking point of when the disc scratched I would have been more concerned but this was done, I swear, for flamebait purposes.

RedSky5053d ago

And yet virtually no external CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc player in recent memory has not had this problem.

Go figure huh?

RedSky5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

No way that's unreasonable. Unreasonable would be shaking it or dropping it on the ground. The guy just tilted it. Again, other disc readers just don't have this problem.

On the whole I don't think it will blow up into a huge issue anyway, but it is a blatant design oversight. I'm sure people will disregard the warning and then find their discs shredded.

It's like how with most digital audio players (ie iPods), if you just yank out the USB without safely removing it from the taskbar it's generally fine even if you're not supposed to. Whereas with a few players from certain manufacturers there's a chance you'll fry the device. That's kind of like the 360 now.

Hideo_Kojima5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

If you take it downstairs you will most likely switch it off because I doubt you have a long enough power cable or a small enough house to move it around rooms without unplugging it.

In which case the disks won't be damaged because its not spinning while your moving it.

Not a big issue but who knows the other problems may still be there (overheating)

@RedSky you think this is a 360 fanboy site? I am a PS3 fan and very loyal to everything that comes from Sony but some of the guys here make me feel sick (talking about the droids). This is not an issue. Acting as if you care about a thing like this on a flame bate article is what is pathetic.

DaTruth5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

I said it here before and I'll say it again. This tech has been mastered for so long, you would have to go out of your way to find a DVD drive that scratches disks!

MS loves when your disk gets scratched and you're forced to buy a new one and then they get to say: "We sell more games than Sony!"

Sony doesn't sell us the same game three or four times!

Some of us have small children who try to get our attention by messing with our console while we're playing. I don't want to lose a game everyday... because my console being moved literally happens to me everyday!

RedSky5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Never said that, I said this site is full of fanboys, 360 and PS3 alike. It's pretty obvious, just about every news item that's along the lines of 'my console is better than yours' gets over 1000° and is a menagerie of sandy vaginas.

I only have a PC, honestly I'm completely indifferent. I'm just calling a spade a spade.

Hideo_Kojima5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Sorry I misunderstood your point of view.

Oh wait if you live in LA and there is an Earth Quake every single person in the area who is playing a game will have to buy it again :P

Noctis Aftermath5053d ago

And the problem with the disc tray shows it's ugly head once again, they should of went with a disc drive like the PS3 slim.

exnihilonihilfit5053d ago

He clearly did not intend to break the game, he just wanted to see the system upright. You can hear in the audio he had no idea that was going to happen, he was shocked when someone told him not to do that.

I've moved a regular Xbox before while the disk was in and that didn't happen.

I've had this happen to me once before, and that was with a PS2, but only when it was literally dropped at high velocity because my nephew got his foot wrapped in the cord. This guy barely tilted the damn thing.

This is clearly no mere oversight, the thing has a warning printed on it, they knew this was going to happen and didn't do anything about it.

ThanatosDMC5053d ago

What scratches the disks though? It couldnt be the laser... something must be bulging out.

Ult iMate5053d ago

For the comparsion' sake.
PS3 doesn't give any scratch to the disk even when dropped at a side.

Xbox Vs Ps3 Disk Scratch Test

rkimoto5053d ago

Oh come on dudes, Why would you want to move an electronic equipment while turned on AND running a disc?

I'm all up for testing stuff, but common sense dictates that this was unnecesary, I would be better informed if they did real tests (like power consumption, heat distribution, noise levels, etc)

Spydiggity5053d ago

could the ps3 fanboys please go away now? can't you troll some wii articles or something for a change?

i have owned the same 360 since day one launch. never had to repair it, never had a problem. and never ONCE has it scratched a disc. people are just stupid and don't know how to take care of their toys.

when you're driving a car, you don't hop into the backseat while it's moving and try to drive. then when the car crashes, you blame the manufacturer.

you don't stick your hand in a moving table saw or on a heated frying pan then cry about faulty tech.

just stop being morons, and your discs and system will be fine.

yes ms should have built the system a bit more sturdy, but that's no excuse for stupidity. people just hate accepting responsibility for ANYTHING. it can't be your own moronic actions that lead to the problem...had to be someone else.

sikbeta5053d ago

God Damn, this problem again, why MS didn't Fixed it, people is not really that careful, so this problem must be fixed...

ReservoirDog3165053d ago

Well, it probably wouldn't survive an earthquake here in california.

pustulio5053d ago

This is gettin a shitstorm by PS3 fanboys.

You guys are all stupid only retarded people move their consoles while they are reading a disc, even if it's a PS3.

Common' disagree we all know you will, retards.

Ult iMate5053d ago

Sigh, I feel your pain Soda. God knows I love making hot, passionate love to my Xbox during the loading times. /s

Gosh. Are people STILL this stupid? You DO NOT move your Xbox while it is reading. YOU DO NOT! How long has the Xbox 360 been out, and people are STILL struggling with this. Pathetic.

Also, if you want to move your 360 S while you play, INSTALL the GAME.

Ha Ha, you know what, let me just sit back and watch this get blown WAY out of proportion. I expect nothing less from the denizens of N4G.

Al Bundy5053d ago

I can move my PS3 while a disc is playing and nothing happens. Blame MS for their shoddy disc tray that don't hold the disc in place.

ArcFatalix5053d ago

shows cheap manufacturing defect

CoxMulder5053d ago

I've moved my PS3 while it's reading a disc multiple times, mostly when I need to re-charge the controllers while playing. (short usb cables be damned!)

Thank god something like this doesn't happen on PS3..

crck5053d ago

Its because just about every if not all other disc-based video game system locks the disc in place while its spinning. Its just ridiculous MS still hasn't fixed this.

kneon5053d ago

While I see no need to be moving your console while you're using it I still don't understand why this problem even exists. I can move my laptops around without issue, are they using the cheapest DVD drive in existence? Even a cheap $20 portable CD player doesn't scratch disks while walking around with it.

toaster5053d ago

I can pick up my PC, open the case, inspect it, and move it around while playing a disk.

This is pathetic actually.. 5 years into the generation and MS still hasn't learned from mistakes.

hay5053d ago

Actually this happened only on Xbox as I recall. Did similar things with DC, GC, PS1(though those two hold disks firmly, no tray), PS2, PS3 PC and some DVD player, no problems.

My Falcon Xbox did similar thing to my GTA: Episodes From Liberty City, though the damage wasn't as serious as this.

DemiT5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

I didn't move my ps3 with a disc in the slot but it stil scratched my Linux.
No warning label, even.

Thanks a lot, Sony.
*shakes interweb fist*

Bloodraid5053d ago

@Clizzz
Well; seeing as this is the new model. About a day.

jerethdagryphon5053d ago

thantos the scratching is caused by the design of disc drives

in short you have an outer casing and attached to that is the interface board, the hardware chips of the drive,

built on top of that over a layer of thin shielding is the mechanical parts

consisting of the head with the laser and the drive bay and spindle

when a disc is loaded the spindle rises and lifts it clear of the disc tray so the laser on its track and read the disc.

the head of the laser is only a few microns above the disc surface on a thin cushion of air.
if the disc is jostled without shock proof tech, the read head/laser remains high and the spindle bounces the disc shattering the air cushion and leading the hard glass lens to gouge the softer plastic of the disc

hope that helps.

btw shockporoofing basically adds a sensor to tell when its not level it lowers the head so it cant hit the disc.

Pennywise5053d ago

Its easy to shrug it off when you accept subpar products. 5 years later and they are still using a disc tray... but I am sure this is okay with you, Soda. Its MS!!

You guys act like this isn't a problem and it is. I was all excited to play Gears2... my friend brought his XBOX up and the stupid 360 ate his disc before we could even play. Sure the console shouldn't of moved, but it did and the game was worthless after a quick jolt.

maddhatter6175053d ago

yeah they seem to have just accepted that poorly made hardware is fine. it really is sad how fanboys will defend any and everything with this company.

bruiser815053d ago

What I found troubling is that the expressed no outrage, it was a simple (i won't do that when i get my new 360 hahahaha) Its gamers like this that MS sees no reason to fix this problem.

kancerkid5053d ago

How is this a story?
Yea flip over an XBOX while a disc is in the tray, disc gets damaged and some how is is MS's fault? Really?

What happened to common sense?

edgeofblade5053d ago

Gotta agree, even as a long time Xbox fan, not only did Microsoft botch the presser, this was my first gripe about the new 360: "What? No slot loader?"

After Sony's outing today, the clobbered Microsoft and Nintendo.

fmprodguy5052d ago

I hear ya, I shook my DVD player while watching a movie, and it ate the disc...

We should sue.

animboo5053d ago

not to be biased or anything, he wasnt shaking the console on the video, he just wanted to moved it vertically to stand..Watch the video first before commenting and defending.

Mike134nl5053d ago

Too be fair the sticker on the front side did mention do not move the console when it's reading the disc. Some people should learn how to read.

mushroomwig5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

@Mike134nl

What about the people at home? Are they supposed to leave notes for family members to make sure they don't move the console?

It's easy to put put a warning in a situation like he was in but it's very different at home. I'm half expecting another Watchdog report in a year or so regarding this.

animboo5053d ago

But in the first place it shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. Accidents do happen and if that accidents cost you your game then you should be mad at the maker of that console. Its just sad that a lot of people put up with this and even defend it when they shouldn't because company wont learn and just give us piece of crap if we the consumer don't mind it.

animboo5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

holy..double post..

Moentjers5053d ago

such a sticker is only to avoid law suites and warranty issues.

to me it means that they were well aware of the problem !

KingME5053d ago

What type of moron would actually move any disc player while it is running. Most optical drives with disk trays will do this when they are flipped while the disk is spinning. The drive is using simple magnetics to hold the disk down.

As usual though, the local PS3 crew shows the tenatious desire the hate and jumps all over this. I haven't seen one of you blame the idiot the flipped the console while the disk was spinning. Why not you ask? Because that would mean you wouldn't be able to blame MS.

duplissi5053d ago

no offense dude but last time i checked it was common sense to not move a console or device while it had a spinning disk in it with a laser mounted 1/16in or less away from it..... just saying....

plus why are you moving a home entertainment device anyway? you dont cart around your blu ray/dvd player or your cable box, so why your xbox?

in fact i learned this with my ps2 back when vice city came out.

+ Show (4) more repliesLast reply 5053d ago
GWAVE5053d ago

No big surprise here. Microsoft put out a nice, new, flashy hardware design, yet in the end it's still built by Microsoft.

Prediction: it'll take 6 months after 360 S's launch for the "slim red ring" reports to start pouring in.

Oh, and your conference sucked, Microsoft.

Al Bundy5053d ago

I'm sure MS programmed the failure lights to be a different color with the new Xboxes. They can't flash red again.

gumgum995053d ago

yes, to a nice purple color. Just like Kinect! ^_^

Reibooi5053d ago

Now I get what people are saying. That you don't move it while it's reading. I 100% agree with that. However the fact that it still destroys discs if you do it makes me worry if it will randomly destroys discs when you don't even touch it.

If it does then it proves MS has learned nothing.

poopface15053d ago

THE GUY FLIPPED IT OVER COMPLETELY. The same thing happens with any disk TRAY, this guy was an idiot.

corneliuscrust5053d ago

They wont listen.

Hey... when I threw my ps3 at a wall, it ate a disc!@! WTF SONY

commodore645053d ago

YEah hmmm

Seriously, how dumb are people?
There is a sign on the front of the console saying NOT to do that.
So what does he do?

I am thinking that guy flipped it over on purpose, just so they could make a nice story to get hits for their website.

Bloodraid5053d ago

You're wrong. I have never heard of another console, DVD player, blu-ray player, or anything that uses a disc drive scratching discs when moved.

mantisimo5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Moving a console like this when its loading a disc must happen all over the world all of the time, it's a very easy thing to do while putting something on a table or pushing in a cable etc.

Microsoft MUST know it does this otherwise there would be no sticker.

This I find disgusting as if you complain about a scratched disc,

"Oh I'm sorry you must have tilted the console slightly, well there is a sticker,..... dear me, perhaps you could buy another one, have a nice day now, bye bye"

What next more stickers on the side "do not move your body like a voodoo witch while playing kinect games, it might make your console implode and has occasionally caused a small black hole to appear, which is very slightly dangerous"

Disgusting.

My kids have knocked their wii over and bashed it a lot and never a problem, hell when my youngest put coins in the disc slot and it ate Zelda, Nintendo sent them a brand new disc.

I have knocked over both my xbox and ps3 but luckily nothing happened but if this is known and is a problem at this stage in manufacturing(which it very obviously is) then it's just not good enough, especially when the guy in the vid just moved it slightly over, shoddy Crap.

chitownzown5053d ago

that if you are watching a movie on a laptop with a disc loader, pause said movie and take the laptop to another location the exact same thing would????? Highly doubt it. What about an old school cd player? again I doubt it. Be serious guys

MNicholas5053d ago

poopface15053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Who flips their console up sidedown when its reading disks. What a MORON. He says "he had no idea that would happen." Rally? Thats like flipping your computer over downwhile its reading a disk, or anything with a tray.

Whitto, WTF. When you move your console from room to room its NOT PLUGGED IN AND ON. THIS MORON FLIPPED IT UPSIDE DOWN WHILE IT WAS ON.

Ive moved my 360 while its on and my games never got scratched. I did not ever flip it over like this guy tho.

eDIT--- AHAHHAH WHATS NEXT....DURRRR I dipped it in water and now it doesnt turn on.

Hell-Reaver5053d ago

he didn't flip it upside down, look again. he moved to to be in the vertical position, 90 degrees right. to stand up and have the disk tray at the top, just like in all the pictures. All systems I've seen other than xbox 360 don't have stickers saying don't move while disk is playing. ps3, pc drives, there's no stickers like that.

i work in the computer industry and haven't seen a dvd/cd tray drive that couldn't be moved while spinning for years! I've moved my pc around while playing disks, on either side, upside down, right side up, no scratching, no gravel sound.

poopface15053d ago

Your not supposed to do that WITH ANYTHING with a tray like that.

If I put my PC sideways while A DISK IS SPINNING IN IT, guess what, it gets messed up.

There is a reason there is a STICKER that says "DONT MOVE IT WHILE IT ON." For morons at DESTRUCTOID.

Scotland-The-Brave5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

"Who flips their console up sidedown when its reading disks"
I flip my ps3 from horizontal to vertical while playing blurays and films all the time, its the only way my surround sound optical cable will reach and i dont get any scratching or grinding sounds

you guys sound like you work for ms PR cause seriously everybody moves theyre console while it on well maybe ps3 owners do. moving a console while its on only seems stupid when your using the 3fixme...using any other device its not a problem and is done quite frequently to move cables to make space for people trying to get by and theyres chords in the way..you guys spin so much im surprised you can even type considering your probably seeing double right now...idiots....i wish ud all get a brain over night and learn how to spend your money wisely....

kneon5053d ago

Yes flipping a running console is not among the brightest of things to do. But why is it that it's only the Xbox that seems to have this issue? My laptops don't have this problem. My in-car DVD/CD players don't have this problem, and I like to take corners as fast as possible, and speed bumps are merely an easier means of getting airbourne :) My daughters $20 boom box can be carried around without problems. Cheap CD "walkman" type devices don't have this problem.

Well pal, last time i checked playing games doesn´t require tilting ur console or your pc tower.

Now you can tell me why PS3 fanbois have problems with this.

Noctis Aftermath5053d ago

It's probably because MS included the cheapest possibly DVD drive which doesn't even secure discs in place to prevent things like this happening, i mean it's a DVD drive, how cheap do they need it to be? i'm sure if they spent another 20 cents per drive they could of gotten one that secured the disc in place....

Warning or no warning this sh1t is outdated tech and shouldn't even be used, but of course you fanboys will defend MS to the grave screaming "BUT BUT THE LABEL!!!"

Space_cancer5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

The disc tray should be better yes, but tilting ur console while it´s on is beyond me. There´s no need for that. What i find amusing is that PS3 only owners care this so much. Guess they are tilting the PS3s all day long. Sony should put the Move inside the PS3 and add tilt beyond -label, because in this thread tiltin ability of consoles is the next best thing since sliced bread.

JumpNPlayBon5053d ago

@Rekyyli

I've concluded that you are an IDIOT. How is this acceptable to you? If I was a 360 only owner I'd BE PISSED at MS. They had the chance to right a lot of wrongs with this. They could have shown that they can make a great RELIABLE product that we the consumer can depend on for the rest of this gen, which is another 5 years according to them.

To CONTINUE making it COMPLETELY obvious that saving a few dollars here and there, AT THE COST AND INCONVENIENCE OF THE CONSUMER, is sicking at best.

There are plenty of DVD/CD products that show how NOT to scratch while in motion. Of course no one should be moving it while in motion, but what happens when it's done accidentally? No big deal?

I was REALLY looking forward to this new version, as my last 360 has just RROD providing the perfect timing. I DESPISE MS, but I don't want them to fail, I want them to change FOR THE BETTER for US, the consumer. Are profits THAT low? has the mortgage for your 5th vacation home gone up? How about the little guy PAYING for all YOUR crap?

Now, most people don't move their console when playing. There is typically not much point in so doing. However, my tenant and I have both accidentally bumped his 360 while playing and it is in an entertainment center. It scratched his copy of Halo 3 pretty bad.

Interestingly, my 60 gig 360 CAN BE MOVED while playing a game and it doesn't have this problem. Weird. Anyway, it really is just too bad. My Wii doesn't do this and neither does my PS3.

This may be a flaw, but is it also a flaw that my PS3 Slim makes the most annoying popping/cracking noise while it's on like every 10-20 minutes? did u not see the game loading and then the screen turn off when he tilted the xbox? and he wasnt trying to mess it up, u can tell how he was shocked when it made the noise he almost dropped it.

why shouldnt he be able to tilt it with a cd in it? its designed to stand both sides.i could do that with my ps2 with the cd in it!!

monkey nuts5053d ago

unless your a facking impostor ofcourse.

Independent_Charles5053d ago

why thankyou and im the reall deal lol. you dont have to do what your mum says anymore

PRHB HYBRiiD5053d ago

my forza 2 disk was owned when i moved the xbox by accident. xD

DatNJDom815053d ago

they are a plague. I have mixed feelings on this. I never move my console while im playing. so why would they do that? unless your have to disconnect some cables or something. at the same time, he barely moved it and it SCRATCHED the disk. REALLY??!?!?! why would u buy a console that has this issue?? I just dont get why people buy into the xbox brand. its incredible how the xbox fanboys defend this. I usually laugh at you guys, but now I see your fanaticism is on par with the nazis. scary stuff.....

secksi-killer5053d ago

now i notice all the "its pathetic" comments are coming from the usual sony fanboys. but after watching that video, how anyone can sit there and say that that guy did not go looking for something bad to happen is beyond me!!!! he blantantly wanted something to happen then!

that was a really cheap attempt at looking for some hit getting crap!

DigitalAnalog5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

A "stand-up" design for a disc tray makes it more feasible to lose balance when moved. Many homes here in Hong Kong are small and they usually put their consoles below their TV's or even under an open desks. Heck my friends 360 just fell over simply because someone pulled a power cord accidentally.

Imagine that scenario with THIS updated console... that's another good game down the toilet. What if this game was rare or difficult to import? I don't mind losing my console but games are a totally different story.

As a designer, you must ALWAYS try to test different scenarios and accidents to ensure stability within your product. There is no defending this... the lack of quality control shows - a "do-away" with the tray is A MUST feature. Better yet, the default stand design should be horizontal and not vertical. It's NOT a bloody PC!

-End statement

PoSTedUP5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

@ redsky- of course this site is filled with fanboys, get use to it. (ps3 fan here)

@ sedski killer above- so because he did the EXPERAMENT means this would never happen to someone else? do people have ANY reasoning anymore? do yall not see the point behind the article? the problems still do exist. and if i owned a 360 i would just get use to it because MS are not fixing $***.

on topic.

but even though im a ps3 fan that dosent mean that what i say twards the 360 illogical.

i recently had my ps3 lying down, i had to stand it up because the top vent was to close to my cable box and it was suffocating and getting hot, if this were the 360 it would have scratched my disc, just saying. they also lied by saying that it is "wisper quiet" reports are saying that it is just as loud as the old one.

not hating the 360 because it is a good console, just calling out MS on their bullcrap.

@ DIGITALANALOGUE above- yeah i agree the stand up on the 360 is bad because it is light and it is also a thin rectangle strip at the bottom. the ps3 is oval which gives it proper support. but the scratching of the discs should have been fixed a long time ago.

fr0sty5053d ago

so, if your dog knocks over your 360 when you're playing it, say goodbye to your game.

RayMustang5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Oh my god please
It's not only a xbox 360 that rip disk like that
Wii, ps3, laptop and PCs does that if YOUR A FREAKING MORON THAT MOVE VERTICAL TO HORIZONTAL (VICE-VERSA) YOUR MACHINE WHILE A DISK IS RUNNING.

It scrap disk, cuz of the physic of spinning and a lil deviation the disk twist a lil while spinning so it scratch

THE END

PoSTedUP5053d ago

no the ps3 dosent scratch, i dont know about the wii but i doubt it scratches discs, i would have herd something about that. and no MY laptop dosent scratch my discs when i tilt it. you must be new here lol. or just havent been paying much attention to the things that go on around you.

corneliuscrust5053d ago

There are risks of damage. How high the risk depends on the mechanism.

Even sealed, BOLTED hard drives have spinning discs and are OFTEN damaged by being moved.

FFXI1015053d ago

My PS3(Slim), I brought my PS3 to work one day and while I was playing it, I got a phone call so I got up and try to answer the phone.

I tripped over the core and wire. My PS3 fell from top of the tv(about 4 feet from the floor)
I thought it is done for, but to my surprise it was still running(I had MW2 in it). I didn't have any problem after that day(I still own the same system and playing everyday)

Heisenberg5053d ago

This shouldn't happen.... Shoddy hardware from MS, big surprise.

Jazz41085053d ago

You guys deserve your precious install station. Get out of this article and go download some more updates to your firmware as that's all my ps3 seems to do is download install then download and install and maybe if I'm lucky 30 min later I get to my game. Sure is next gen of ya sony even my ps2 played games as soon as I put them in . I don't mind a brief install but these half an hour installs havegot to stop before sony gets a dime more from me.

Heisenberg5051d ago

What are you talking about you fool?

vhero5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

My major problem with this is if somebody knocks the 360 or if you stand it on its side and it falls over from a nudge? Say goodbye to your £40 game.. Blu rays are scratch proof baby this wouldn't happen on a ps3..

I lost 2 games in the past on 360 due to the scratching and they looked exactly like this on the vid.. Never happened on any other console including Xbox 1 and PS2 which both had DVD trays.

Roozium5053d ago

Eeeh? How the fuck are you suppose to take it downstairs when the console is still plugged in? The 360 only scratches it if it is IN MOTION and the disc isn't in motion when the power is off. Get your shit right, fanboy.

kparks5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

LMAO i love how they put a sticker on the console so now if u do happen to move it there not liable lol and to all the people talkin about taikin it in the kitchen and crap stop being dumb u just saw all the guy wanted to do was stand it up what if your dog or sumn knocks it over??.. WHY DIDNT THEY FIX IT... O WAIT THEY DID THE STICKER!!!

twostep185053d ago

o wait they did, sticker!!
haha
funny
=]

kparks5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

what if i farted and it fell over LOL then what im out 50 bucks HAHAHAHA i like how the guy is like(is there really a sticker on there) lol

Denethor_II5053d ago

What if its standing up and then falls down?

kevnb5053d ago

didnt even have to move it.

evilmonkey5015053d ago

My pc with a disc drive tray doesn't even have this problem...Ive tilted it SEVERAL times as I had a crappy video cable/video card connection problem for quite a while. I used to tilt my pc every day to unplug replug, unplug, replug...lol. weird. I heard its because they save .03 cents (really .03 cents per box) by omitting the rubber grommet that surrounds the read laser...bummer.

pixelsword5053d ago

To be fair, not too many people move their consoles like that.

But to be cautious, sound from speakers could shake the console slightly to cause scratching.

MorganX5053d ago

I don't like the fact that in this day and age, a new Xbox is scratching disks. But anyone who thinks this wasn't staged is a fool. Just happens to pick it waay up while it's spinning to load Alan Wake, ensuring it would be spinning at full speed just in time for the fud taping. Come on.

No one picks up the console while it's spinning up a game, but that's still no excuse for the problem. If the console was $149 OK. But at $299 no way.

MEsoJD5053d ago

an earthquake doesn't happen while playing this sucker.

amigaman5053d ago

I guess playing DDR MAX on 360S is out of the question?

ShadowCK5053d ago

LOL Soda. Bubbles to you matey.

quadalupeupe5053d ago

there's been reports of Falcons getting RROD and those are 1-2 years old, Jaspers getting RROD are rare but also a few there

SantistaUSA5053d ago

Isn't it funny that the camera does NOT show the whole picture? Look, they did it on purpose, also they take the disc out of the console but the cam does NOT follow the disc, how can we tell that the console really damaged the disc?

XactGamer5053d ago

Dudes :D it's a game console not a freaking IPod. What is real freaking funny is that there is a warning sticker on front of the 360 and he still moved it. "ALL" consoles come with warnings about moving it with a disc in the tray.

NegativeCreepWA5053d ago

How hard is it to not move your console while its turned on?

tplarkin75053d ago

The best design takes into account our natural tendencies. I don't know what it would cost to enable tilting the console while the disc is spinning, but it really should be done if possible.

At least the machine still works, though.

MegaPowa5053d ago

I love how the sony fans eat up Grieversoul's comment (sigh). this barely a issue just don't move it while its loading and stuff i know you guys Just love to do your morning jogs while playing the 360 but just don't

Game13a13y5053d ago

some of you are missing the point. its not about moving the console around while playing, its about alittle bit of something called "Quality" something MS surely never heard of.

xOohSoSiKWiTiTx5053d ago

obviously the guy cannot read the simply instructions that were written on the front of the drive: "DO NOT MOVE CONSOLE WHILE DISK IS IN DRIVE!!!!!" That simple! Who moves there console while there is a game inside of it anyway? Unless there some dumbass who trips over the power cord...knocking the console on the ground!!! lol

syanara5053d ago

if it scratches that bad then Vibration alone can probably cause some big damage over time and also means that you cant go from the horizontal to the vertical standing xbox while it's playing at all which some people might not realize when they buy this xbox without any kind of BIG warning label. IMO the point here is that nothing scratches THAT bad when it's moved that I've seen other than this and that means that vibrations through out the floor might ruin your disc over time. I hope they fix this some way or another.

thewhoopimen5053d ago

As someone poignantly mentioned, Kinect will be about hopping skipping and jumping around near a 360. Having such a disc drive.... is such a bad design decision that you have to wonder how MS missed this detail. My feeling is they did it on purpose.

Philaroni5053d ago

I think people are freaking out about this too much, it is one thing if it happens when it is just sitting their but when you move it or shake it? Not something your suppose to do anyway.

hobokiller5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Can see how this would be problem with Kinect.

morkendo5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

my sensors indicate this is the same bullsh't 360 before. will robinson showed a video of brand new black 360 can STILL scratch games. my analogy is to proceed with EXTREME caution DANGER!!,DANGER!! an alien wanna-be 360 is approaching i will use electrical force to hold him back SHHHHHH-KORR-ACK!!! did Dr.smith pay MS to build this unreliable machine?? they both unreliable.

that´s remind on the old Xbox360

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Epic fail, starting Day 1 from MS.

Was impressed, but now that happens. Same bad hardware, probably will scratch the disk even when you don't touch the console, like the previous consoles.

BulletToothtony5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

come on MS stop using $1 disk trays already.. would it kill you to use good quality parts once in a while..

TheHater5053d ago

That disk is totally unusable now. I hope people learn their lesson from watching this.

NY_State5053d ago

Yeah don't by products made by Microsoft.

greatjimbo785053d ago

Buy, it's buy. If you're going to Troll, at least learn to spell words correctly.

tatotiburon5053d ago

wow so blu-ray discs are shaking proof? lmao

krisq5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

...scratch proof.

tatotiburon5053d ago

lol so if i shake my ps3 with uncharted 2 running the game will be fine?

Pennywise5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Future proof.

Edit: Have you ever seen how tight the PS3 packs its disc in tray? Between that and the scratch protective coating, I think it would be fine.

krisq5053d ago

Yeah, I did it by accident and there was some noise but disc was perfectly fine after. Not a scratch.

TotalPS3Fanboy5053d ago

you do this on the PS3 and the disc will be fine.

theonlylolking5053d ago

Its skratch proof to an extent. I move my PS3 while playing games and no scratches or mess ups. I never move my 360 while a disc is in it or turned on. I turn it off first then move it just in case.

NY_State5053d ago

Shake proof? I think you meant scratch proof and yes they are.

PS360PCROCKS5053d ago

Haha nothing is scratch proof I've learned this! I once believed this til I met my sisters kids. Every blu ray she owns looks like the kids took sand paper to it. I didn't think it was possible either

SonyOwnsNextYear5053d ago

though you can and might damage the bluray drive from shaking brutally.

amigaman5053d ago

In the video's case, he just moved the 360s, and scratched it.

Arnon5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

They're not scratch proof, as I've seen them scratched up at my local Movie Trading Company, and they become useless if they are actually scratched. They're scratch resilient, and they have to be due to this fact.

The Xbox 360 is running a DVD in a disc tray with a 12x drive constantly spinning. If anything, this sort of thing is bound to happen with most products that use a tray, and most of them tell you not to move it while a disc is being read.

Consoldtobots5053d ago

I had my dog run behind the TV while I was playing a game, PS3 went flying landed upside down the floor, the game didn't skip a beat and the disc didn't have a scratch on it.

go figure.

DatNJDom815053d ago

Go ahead and shake your PS3 with Uncharted 2 in it and see if it scratches. If it does let me know. It might take alot of shaking for that to happen though, so good luck. If you do manage to get Uncharted 2 to scratch, put the rest of your PS3 games in there and do the same thing. u will be doing the PSN community a HUGE favor. At the same time, you can come on here and post how PS3 scratches blurays and put the pics up too. Then your bubbles will go up from all the 360 fanboys here and you'll be the happiest N4G user alive.

Heisenberg5053d ago

The disc got scratched when he began to tilt it upright, something I do with my PS3 while the game is on all the time. It's not like there were any forceful or violent movements in this video, he was simply moving it upright, in a tame way. So to answer your question this most certainly would not and does not happen on the PS3, nor SHOULD it on the 360.

Honestly in this day and age, to have a disc tray/hardware that will instantly destroy your expensive games upon any movement of the system is unacceptable, why would anyone defend this, it's not in your best interest, as a consumer, to tell MS you're ok with it, when we all know this is completely preventable. It just drives the point home further that MS hasn't learned their lesson about cutting corners in the hardware department, why? Because kids keep shelling out mom and dads cash telling MS: "Go ahead! Fück me in the ass, I'm part of a subculture that idolizes corporations, as if they are an entity that will love me back"

thewhoopimen5053d ago

It would be fine. First of all the bluray disc wouldn't be free spinning like that in the console. 2nd, the scratch coating on the bluray discs can withstand razor cuts.

MGRogue20175053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Finally.. Before, We had these "executive xbox guys" who were treating it really carefully on those unboxing videos but We've got people who play & mess around with it now.. lol

That's exactly what we need to see. Now, we can see how it really peforms given enough pressure & knock-abouts :)

It's only a matter of time until kids & minors get it which will only show us more of it's faults, if there any more :D

mrv3215053d ago

Why, do you intend to move the console while playing a game? Do you life on a boat?

The reason for not buying this is to see if they RRoD... which Microsoft actually got rid of the symbol for it happening.

$299 FOR THIS? Isn't that the same are the PS3 slim? Might aswell get that.

silvacrest5053d ago

for most people they will move the console by accident or just to move some cables about but the results will be the same, a coaster

fanboyism aside, MS should have fixed this known issue

mrv3215053d ago

I'm not defend Microsoft in any way... because well it's me. If you don't buy a 360 slim don't make one of your reasons the DVD scratching.

You could put it down to
-Lack of interesting games coming up for you personally.
-Kinect looks and sound UTTERLY STUPID
-You allready own a 360
-Worried of it duying
-Own a PS3 and feel you won#t get much from buying a 360.

siyrobbo5053d ago

yeah, if i were looking to buy a current gen system having not personally owned one yet, there would be no reason to pick 360 over ps3 at the same price, not right now, and my guess would be definately not after today! Thats coming from someone who only owns a 360 as well

Man am i fed up with MS

SonyOwnsNextYear5053d ago

a console can be moved by accidents of any way, shape or form. !!!!surprise!!! your disc is gone.

Some people build entertainment centers in their suvs, 360 could never be a reliable option.

i know there are more reasons bit im running out the door.t
