David Carnoy from Cnet: If you're like me and were wondering why Kinect sounded slightly familiar when Microsoft announced the name for its new motion-sensing game technology/platform, it's because about five years ago Sony put out a PS2 EyeToy game called Kinetic.
Before the Wii and motion control became all the rave, there was a PS2 game called Kinetic. Kinetic is an exercise program that required the Eye Toy and was released in 2005 for the PS2.In the game you could perform many different exercises from Yoga to Meditation and more.
It is KINECT NOT KINETIC....either way it is a horrid name that most of the press is getting wrong.
This may help for any future confusion

Although the name is similar the article is complete fail:
"Is it a mere coincidence that Microsoft has officially labled their “controller free” motion technology for the Xbox 360 “Kinetic” when Sony has released a motion control game by the same name 5 years ago?"
but microsoft didn't name natal 'kinetic' they named it 'kinect' lol please research next time, although i do agree that the names are similar but could just be a coincidence.
First they steal glossy-paint and touch sensitive buttons, now THIS?
I guess imitation IS the best form of flattery.
Microsoft has no shame *sigh*
Pathetic.
Sony can't, and won't, sue over a similar name. Sony didn't trademark the word Kinetic and all one letter variations of it.
Should have just call it Natal
