Microsoft has been really pushing social networking for the past while. I think it's more likely that Kinect is going to be some type of social networking thing they'll try to tie into the 360. We all saw last year with Facebook and Twitter that Microsoft is anxious to get people social networking with their 360's.

If it weren't for the fact that the MS smart phone is called the Kin, I probably would have guessed this is the new name for Natal as well. Good catch by cgoodno.

I've got to say, I kinda like the look of this 360. I think this looks legit and the missing wi-fi was always a pet peeve of mine (mostly because I had to shell out for it myself when I bought my new house). I wonder what the price tag on this will be?

Also the size is roughly the same as the current 360 so this isn't a "slim" version but more of a redesign(and a visually poor one at that).

Of course it's hard to really judge the scale of the thing from that photo but it does look more like a case redesign than a new slim model. Still it looks a lot better than the current design. Maybe the driving force behind the design was more efficient airflow rather than reduced size.

We knew a slim/redesign was coming for a long time. I just want to know what it features and I want to hear it from MS themselves that the console has an acceptable failure rate.

I'm upset because I was this new model, and I just bought an Elite. Feel foolish because I've rarely used my 360 and I could have likely saved a lot of money.

I don't really think that showing a new console redesign and Natal (which has already been shown on many occasions) alone will steal the show, just how Sony isn't going to steal the show with another PS3 model & Move.

Hopefully Microsoft has a few interesting things up their sleeve, I'm kind of interested to see what they've got.

Sony's conference should be pretty impressive as well. Seeing as they've released so much stuff before E3 this year, I imagine they've got a plethora of stuff to show. Lets just hope their main focus isn't Move.

Also; about the 'Kinect compatible' thing. Does that mean that current 360 consoles won't be able to use it? If that's true than I can't see it selling too well.

If they show new hardware they likely will not give a price. And it won't be cheap. But they won't say that. They will let people presume it might be cheap and then they will use the launch of Natal to announce the new price and try to soften the blow.

MS will try to get as many people to hold off buying a PS3 this summer and fall by letting them think the new console will be a steal this fall and Natal will actually function like Minority Report. They have used the tactic before.

It could be MS big surprise. They stated that they have something bigger than Natal in store. My guess is that Kentic is some new hardware/software that MS has been working on like the 3D tech that is beamed directly to your eye.

Plus a plausible name for Natal "Kinect". It's hard to tell from that picture but it does look slimmer. I like the new slogan and the Re-brand so far as well.
To those worrying about Red Ring, that isn't an issue with newer 360's. It's just the fear people have with the early failure rates. This slim is going to cost less, because the parts are cheaper now. Why would someone think a slimmer, more cost effective model would cost more? This is probably going to be the standard Xbox 360 now. $199 or so I'm guessing. 120 gig HDD and they will be priced up with the larger HDD I'm sure. Kind of brings legitimacy to my $99 Natal theory or $250 slim 360/Natal bundle theory as well. Save $50 buy getting a new 360 with Natal.

it "looks" slimmer, but if you look at the proportions of the disc tray, it's not that much more so. what they should have done was use slot loader or at least portable disc drive dimensions. it looks like there's a huge exhaust vent for the heatsink fan so this could perhaps remedy the red rings. took them 5 years though. 5 years too long and 5 years too late.

As I have said already. The current HDD's are laptop HDD's in a case specially made for the Xbox 360. So the current HDD's will fit because of the small form factor of the laptop HDD's. You would just need to dismantle the HDD case and put it into the new Xbox 360 and hope it works. That is unless they completely redesigned the way the HDD is integrated into the console. Then we are fudged.

It doesn't look particularly small, I mean, you can see the disc drive slot. Makes it two discs tall, which is about the same as the current models. I'm guessing it's thinner and not as deep.

Really, they've put two dents in the current design and added more vents. Not a huge change, but the wi-fi (which should have been there day 1 anyway) is a nice addition and the HDD size is more than most will ever need.

Most of us were expecting this to happen anyways, so I wouldn't have been surprised even if this was all revealed during their conference. I'm just looking forward to all of the game showings. All of this is just the icing on the cake. A slim release is nice for those who haven't bought a 360 yet and the name Kinect sounds pretty decent as well.

look at the diagonal curvature, during the slow flyby, it directly cuts through the 360 logo on the side of the console, in the later image where the 360 is stationary, the diagonal curvature makes no contact with the 360 logo on the side of the console.

so it's official. This is the new 360 slim. Much smaller than the now officially "fat" 360. I might be buying one. It was the one thing that microsoft did right in their conference. Everything else, besides Metal Gear, was pretty lame. If was the Kinect show 2.0...well, 1.5 cause it wasn't much of an improvement. Hopefully this show gets better with Nintendo and Sony.
