Avatar Producer Jon Landau Sees a 3D Future

LOS ANGELES – Jon Landau was a keynote speaker at the inaugural 3D Gaming Summit. The producer who ushered in this new phenomenon of 3D in theaters and on game consoles talked about the future of 3D in Hollywood and in videogames. Outside of the ballroom, Ubisoft's Avatar videogame was playing on 3D TVs from Panasonic and 3D monitors running on NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology. Landau believes 3D gaming is here to stay – something Sony is betting on with its recent free firmwhere upgrade for 3D games on PlayStation 3.

Anyone know the strain that 3D has on your eyes? Anyone looking into it? because if they are not, That's mental.

I'm not sure if there are any studies but i know from personal experience that 3D movies give me a massive migraine. If we switch over to 3D gaming i'm afraid i will have to give up my favorite hobby.

Ever since I went to see Back To The Future 2 as a kid I've looked forward to the day that a giant 3D Jaws hologram would try and take a bite outta me :D

I know 3D is not exactly the same thing but it's a step closer, thats how technology advances and any step forward is fantastic in my eyes. I really enjoyed Avatar at the IMAX, the 3D really brought Pandora to life for me and to implement the same immersion in games just seems like a setup for a massive win.

@shiftycoot I think 3D TVs will become affordable (to most people) a lot sooner than you think. There's only one brand of 3DTVs available in the UK at the minute and they retail at around £1500/1700 dependant on size.

I was expecting the first wave to be much higher priced, which is a good indication that when competition enters the market this summer, in the form of Sony, Panasonic, LG and probably others, the prices should drop dramatically.

Edit: lol in the time it took me to write this comment Shiftycoot let his little fanboy slip out (not a euphemism... hopefully) so I now regret wasting my time replying to him.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
