IGN: Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver Review

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver feels like a gap filler to make the wait for a new Pokemon game just a little more bearable. Gold and Silver are considered by many to be the best of the Pokemon RPG best, and it's easy to see why after playing this remake: it's still an addictive and fun adventure, fully compatible with all the versions of Pokemon made for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.

But, yes, it's a remake. Just like FireRed and LeafGreen on GBA, HeartGold and SoulSilver existed already in the Pokemon canon, and obviously the design team didn't work as hard to recreate an existing game as it would have an original experience.

The guy in the review called the gym leaders "Pokemon Masters"!!!

FanOfGaming5150d ago

Yeah I caught that, he obviously doesn't know what hes talking about along with other things he said in that video. Overall terrible review.

dgroundwater5150d ago

Well IGN is a mainstream gamer's site. No more no less. Hardcore pokemon trainers don't need anyone to tell them which ones they need to buy ;)

Danteh5150d ago

Actually I LMAO at you Pokemon experts saying it's a gym leader or whatever...wtf?

On another note, I'd really like to play this game since I have very fond memories of it my childhood... I pwned everyone in my street with my lvl 100 Ho-oh and Zapdos hahah :D

execution175150d ago

to pick up a DSi and soulsilver to complete my next game system collection :D

Idle h4nds5150d ago

I don't think he was referencing just the gym leaders. I think he was talking about all the trainers around.

Wow.. it's crazy how this series is still going! I wonder if it's on par to beat worldwide Mario [series] sales?

Anyone know what's the total count of Pokemon now? lol

Arkose5150d ago (Edited 5150d ago )

There are over 50 Pokemon games, and that's only if you count the paired releases as one game each (otherwise it's over 60). Only a very small number of these fall into the core series, however; most spin-offs have completely different gameplay and only share the overall theme of the franchise.

singhjeet295150d ago

Mario (222 million)
Pokémon (193 million)
Tetris (125 million)
The Sims (125 million)
Need for Speed (100 million)
Final Fantasy (92 million)
Madden NFL (75 million)
Grand Theft Auto (70 million)
FIFA (65 million)
The Legend of Zelda (59 million)

TANUKI5150d ago

Thanks for the info guys.

I haven't been following Pokemon since Yellow came out (yea, I know.. I'm really late) lol.

Chimerhazzard5150d ago

But there is something about pokemon.... that I dunno. It's like a nolstagia thing. I loved pokemon Red / Blue, and then I loved Gold / Silver even more. Then I stopped playing Pokemon. 2 years back in 2007 and suddenly got "the urge" to play Pokemon, so I grabbed Diamond and I simply loved it. Pokemon is simple, but with enough strategy to be fun. It's a game both good for kids and for adults who just want to pass time.

I have very good memories of Gold / Silver, so I might try this out, since it's been a while since I last played a Pokemon game hehe :)

Talk about milked though! They are all essentially the same (the core RPG ones anyway), but I can't deny that I enjoy them all.

Fade_Walker5150d ago

Why no remake of Pokemon Snap!?!

/sarcasm

White-Sharingan5150d ago

Sadly...I wouldn't mind a pokemon snap remake...I loved that game!

Shang-Long5150d ago

P snap was so fun. I'd love a remake.
and a true console 3d pokemon rpg/mmo adventure.

RockmanII75150d ago

Now that I think about it, I'm surprised there isn't a Pokemon Snap 2 using the Wii-mote to aim the camera. Did the first one not sell well.

Anon73495150d ago

It's like Pokemon snap on the PS3 but with animals.

It's a pretty cool game but don't except it to be something like Uncharted.

Erasing Another Player’s Pokémon File: An Issue I Didn’t Expect

Sometimes you just need to move ahead and erase old game saves.

Lon3wolf2080d ago

Indeed especially when it is someone else's save files on a cartridge that they have sold on.

PhoenixUp2080d ago

This won’t be an issue on Switch when you can have one save file per account, meaning players can finally abuse the trading system

WeedyOne2080d ago

You really shouldn't give a shit about another gamer's save file on a used game you purchased... While its fun to walk in another's shoes for a bit you shouldn't feel guilty about erasing the save file. I mean if they cared about the time invested and keeping the save file i'm sure they would not have sold the game for pennies on the dollar to a used game store. Please wipe the save and start your own adventure. Game on!

franwex2080d ago (Edited 2080d ago )

I bought a used Final Fantasy Tactics for the Gameboy Advance and it has a save file of about 300 hours in it.
I feel guilty about deleting that file, luckily I can start my own separate one. I am hoping once I do and beat the game and compare my party to the previous player's and see what we did differently.

Why We're Still Playing Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

NL:
With each new generation of Pokémon, the overall number of Pokémon in the National Dex has climbed far beyond the original 151. Obviously, Pokémon has been spread over multiple generations of hardware, and this has further made it more difficult to "catch 'em all". On the Game Boy Advance, Game Freak began a method of alleviating this somewhat with remakes of the first generation games, giving gamers a more streamlined method of collecting the original Pokémon. This was continued on the DS with remakes of the second generation of games, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Best games in the series to be honest.

Flare1492971d ago

Because if you play it like I do and are constantly adding newly caught Pokemon to your lineup it takes an eternity? Thank goodness for EXP share in the later games haha
