Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Has A Secret (Sega Dreamcast 2) Platform

Sega will be milking the announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for all its worth, doling out additional announcements and countdown clocks to drum up hedgehog hype. Perhaps the most interesting tease is the game's fourth platform. Sega's not revealing what that platform is for the time being, leading us to conclude only one thing: Dreamcast 2. Most likely releasing on 10/10/10.

this is a no-name site, with a misleading title and a rumor that's been floating around the internet for years with no credible materialization.

April 1st is still about 8 weeks away...try not to jump the gun next time

Xbox 360 is the Sega Dreamcast of the generation. It makes no sense to have two systems that would be playing the same games.

...but SonicTheHedgeHog4.com is legit.

"Playstation Network, Xbox LIVE arcade, WiiWare, and ???"
I thought prehaps it was going to be PSP2 or DS2 at first, because the site made it sound like a new platform and not necessarily a new service. I figured they might have to hide the PSP2's release or something, until I saw the above quote on the official site.

I'm perplexed. If it's a whole new service that they're keeping secret, perhaps it IS a new SEGA console.

My guess: A cheap console made mostly to play low end 2D games, that they will actually release in the US (Unlike so many DD-only consoles in places like Brazil). SEGA SENTER (Center).

@Above
That you describe has already happened. Sega recently launched a new licenced 2D console/wii rip-off in japan.

The 4th platform is the iPhone. Its already been confirmed

colonel1795185d ago

the iPad.. I mean why not?

I am not sure if iPad games would run on the iPhone like iPhone games run on iPad, but it has a bigger screen, better resolution (i think) and is new... it would be good idea to appeal consumers to buy it...

grashopper5185d ago

Why would they release a console then make their first party titles multiplatform?

Smacktard5185d ago

Yeah, was wondering the same. What a crap site. Haven't thought this one out very well...

nogolis5185d ago

ahhahaha what a joke. Yeah, 10 months away from release of this new system and no R&D or PR to be seen anywhere. That's such a realistic outlook. God people can be really stupid.

Razasharpz5185d ago

Just STFU and appreciate that Sega is still around.

ChrisW5185d ago

Just to let you know, young whipper-snapper, Sega was a very formidable console maker in its heyday! And us oldschool gamers welcome such exciting news!

cyguration5185d ago

You shouldn't pull people's legs like that!

Some of us old-school gamers actually get excited with (fake) news like that :P

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

With so many games fighting for players' attention and interest losing out over time, time sink games are at risk of eventually losing steam.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

shinoff218314h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg14h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

got_dam18h ago

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand12516h ago(Edited 16h ago)

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
