Vanquish headed to PS3, may have PSP connectivity

Last night on GameTrailers TV, Platinum Games and Sega revealed their fourth and final scheduled collaboration - Vanquish. The debut trailer was comprised entirely of live action and CG, with no in-game footage or even a specifc platform announced.

We can derive a few more specifics on the title, though, by going back to that leaked Sega document found earlier this year.

Ya thats the exact same thing i was thinking.. The Vanquish thing nails a definite authenticity in the leaked memo, and might even explain why Sega decided to delay Alpha Protocol (as is mentioned in the memo that sony didnt like it much)

Dyer agreed to regular quarterly meetings with SOA

Sony PS3
SCEA reiterated plans to sell 13 million PS3s this year
Big announcement back half of year they can’t talk about (potentially price cut of PS3 to reach hardware goals)
SCEA commented on indexing between PS3 and 360 SKUs, should be around 2:1 to garner most favorable treatment.

Motion Controller
Spring 2010 launch (March in JP)
No bundle/pricing details yet, should come Sept 1
Plan on selling 4-5MM units WW
SCEA agreed to provide a list of Sega IP that would work well with the motion controller, Virtua Tennis was an example
Motion Controller support allows easy way to differentiate PS3 SKU
Other differentiation opportunities include PSP/PS3 interoperability – think of features that would make users want to buy both PS3 and PSP SKUs.

Alpha Protocol
Michael Foster, product evaluator, said AP felt barely RPG. Initial level too challenging for players. “Mass Effect felt more RPG.”
Review notes sent to John Merlino a few weeks prior. After meeting Gerald mentioned AP is a high priority for his team.

Planet 51
Sell in of PS3 SKU – SCEA noted that other movie titles on PS3 had underperformed as well (inc. Transformers) this cycle.
Dyer suggests contacting Susan at Walmart and asking what she wants in the pack to sell this SKU (movie tix etc)
Other possibilities are Hybrid movie disc (BD 25 or 50 with Game and Movie on same disc).

Bayonetta
Collectors edition with Bayonetta Action Figure
Novo recommended launching PSN demo around Xmas based off a Jan 5th Ship date with 2-3 week run out to launch.
3-4 weeks is usually ideal demo timing with fresh content every week leading up to launch (trailers, insider video about PG heritage, video blogs).

Vancouver 2010
HOME, Olympic destination would garner a lot of positive attention from SCEA
Should be doing same with Bayonetta, Marvel etc. Easy to launch in all territories.
HOME merchandizing opportunities (clothes etc).

Sonic Racing
Open to DLC to differentiate PS3 SKU – not ratchet and clank but other characters
maybe characters from Rare or Fable universes

Yakuza
Could put Japanese games directly on PSN for download in a special Japanese Import section (pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game).
Might need to localize menus at least with subtitles.
SCEA interested in helping on MKTG side if they can have period of exclusivity.

For SKU differentiation it’s best to offer features that are slightly different from PS3 version.
Titles that are coming up on PSP are Assassin’s Creed II, GTA China Wars, Resident Evil, Little Big Planet – all massive franchises.
SCEA has a specific PSP deck which they can send up with their hardware director for a chat.

Not announced for 360 as of yet so we will see but since Bayonetta is selling more on PS3 even though 360 got the lead version the devs will obviously want to support the console where the sales are coming from. PSP connectivity will make it the superior version IF its something decent.

You really gonna blame SEGA? You can't blame another company for not being able to port. I mean the proof is in the pudding if the mighty EA couldn't port something simple like Orange Box its obviously nothing to do with the company who is porting it. It's obviously the company who designed the game not doing enough to help the company porting. To be honest SEGA did a damn good job almost matching another company's games it got it 95% bang on which is in my book DAMN GOOD considering they are not in the same building or anything! It just shows how much you know about game development really.

That being said Sony and Sega are getting really tight dont you people think? First of all they leaked documents, then sony doing a patch for a sega game... hmmm makes a person think. If Sega can get over being destroyed by Sony, those angry 360/XBOX/Dreamcast owners should finally be able to get over it by now.

Blame the companies for letting down their customers by discontinuing support for their consoles. If you put out a console, you should guarantee support for 5-7 years and give 2 years notice of shutdown instead of screwing over 24 million people. Some people bought an XBOX to find out they were discontinuing support the next week!

Why any self respecting PS3 owner would want to buy another game from the Sega/PG partnership? Bayonetta has clearly proven that PG have no interest in developing games for the PS3 and Sega only showed they they don't care if the version is almost broken and have no interest in QA. IMO Sega screwed PS3 owners by charging a full price for a version of a game that just wasn't worth a full price. IMO Sega and PG have a lot to prove to PS3 owners and a lot to make up for. I won't be extremely surprised if at some point in the future this game will be announced as a 360 exclusive.

Probably, but following the Internet uproar over Bayonetta portage, maybe Sega will learn from their mistakes and focus more on quality in the future. It's very naive, but still probable.

I doubt it Sega's main focus is to make 3rd party games; the most Sony would do is buy a particular franchise(maybe Vanquish) and add it as a exclusive PS3 franchise, Sega would more than likely decline Sony's offer or maybe not.

I think this game might be really good, it looks like its trying to contend with Lost Planet(which was rough around the edges in its first installment). While it is a possibility that this could be exclusive to PS3, the fact that it wasn't stated immediately after the trailer ended indicates the probability that it's going to be on both consoles.

Good, the trailer didn't excited me, since no gameplay was shown so this game could even be a tetris clone, but Shinji Mikami is worth of every grain of my patience until he unveils stuff.
I hope this turns out to be a "pure" third person shooter since we don't have a good one on PS3 (Uncharted 2 is not "pure", and Dead Space it's not so tactical) and Quantum Theory doesn't seem too great.

I don't mind if it's a multi or not, I only hope the game turns out great even if my pockets will burn during the whole 2010.

I'm into gaming from 1984, and I've never been excited like I am since early October thinking about the avalanche we have got and we will get until May, and maybe the better is yet to come.

I think with this involving "Shinji Mikami" you have to sit up and take notice. Odds are this will be something special,verdict is still out,as I hope it falls into my field of taste.....I have been playing them from Pong and Space invaders,and creating them as an artist/designer from 89',and cannot think of a more incredible "potential" line-up then 10'...
