Why Do PS3 Exclusives Not Sell?

I think it's the marketing. If nothing else Microsoft spams advertisements at you almost non-stop leading up to the release of one of their exclusives. Although Sony's marketing has been better in recent months I definitely saw more Mass Effect 2 ads last week than I have for U2 period. It's not the install base and it's the quality of the product so my best guess is the marketing.

1)Hype - Sony can't afford to spend as much as M$, and sales are largely influenced by marketing and little to do with quality.

2)Brand recognition - Uncharted is a relatively new IP and it was never going to do Halo-like numbers. Then again, it went ahead and sold an impressive 3mil and UC2 will be hitting that milestone very soon. I really don't see why that's considered a bad thing considering ME1 sold 2.1mil.

A fair comparison will be the GT series, a franchise that has accumulated fans over the generations and will most likely end up selling well over 8million

Yup. If I wasn't following gaming news with the rest of you, I would have no clue that Uncharted 2 existed. Getting a cult fanbase and spreading stuff by word-of-mouth is great for titles that might not reach out to a mass market (like with Atlus and specifically Demon's Souls), but Uncharted 2 was made to sell a bunch. I heard nothing about it pre- or post-release in ads, yet I've seen about 30 Mass Effect ads over the past 2 weeks.

It may have something to do with the amount of games that come out? us ps3 owners have multiplats such as assassins creed 2, batman, bioshock and then several exclusives throughout the year and not everybody can afford that many - hence sony games tend to have a long sales tail.

It's considered "not selling" because with the budgets of current generation titles, that number is barely break even. What people don't understand is that, even though PS3 titles sell well over time, since many of the titles are first party titles, it creates an operating lost for Sony because these titles don't immediately recoup at retail. It may be 3 or 4 accounting periods before they finally see profit from many of the titles.

Let's do a little math shall we? Uncharted 2 has sold about 2.5 million copies so far at $60. Lets just say that Naughty Dog gets only $10 out of that $60. That's $25 million made so far and I read that the game cost $20 million to make. $60 times 2.5 million is $150 million and you call that barely breaking even on a game that cost $20 million to make?! If you think selling 2.5 million is barely breaking even then you wouldn't be playing Mass Effect 2 right now and you certainly won't be getting Forza 4 and Left 4 Dead 3. If selling 2.5 million copies is barely breaking even then most studios would be closed right now.

People build their collection on the 360 since it was the first to come out on the market. Remove all the people who owns both console and let the people who only owns one console to buy the games and see the results.

Another explanation would be the diverse fanbase of the PS3.

Japan = JRPGs and Racing games. They don't seem to like Shooters much
Europe = Racing games and sports games.
NA = Shooters.

The fanbase don't focus on one specific genre.

I agree with you on the diversity of the PS3 base. It tends to be more varied than the 360 whose primary draw seems to be shooters which sell great on the 360. The PS3 fanbase cannot be easily categorized into only one genre of gaming. It's exclusive titles span RPG, Action Adventure, Racing, etc. and every PS3 owner is not necessarily a fan of every exclusive title that drops.

Nothing on the 360 should sell a million since it is the console of pirates choice. The 360 is plagued with more piracy than anything else this gen. Perhaps the typical PS3 audience is older than most of the 360 "mommy bought my console" audience. Perhaps they are not as easily swayed by million dollar ads, etc., and tend to listen to a friend's testimony and/or make up their own minds instead of a being programmed by a trailer or game commercial.

The only thing I can think of is that too many are afraid of the risks associated with piracy, the bans, etc. So a majority of 360 owners will not bother with it. Even though the 360 is the most easy console to pirate, someone STILL has to know exactly what they are doing to make it work. Most pirates I know own @ least two consoles. One for pirated games, mainly offline (even if the console is banned it still plays burned games), and one for their legit copies to play games like MW2 carefree. The great benefit for pirates is that they get to download and play most all of the big 360 games a week to a month before release, which is why they keep it up. The games they truly care about playing with the community, like MW2, Halo, etc., they will typically buy anyhow for XBL. That is the best understanding I have on the situation.

I have some theories that I'll point out and for this post I'll actually try to be non-fanboyish.

1. More 360's sold than PS3's.
2. Twice as many 360's in US then PS3's. And we all know that US is where people play games, hence the FAT population.
3. Sony pumps out games, MS doesn't. Wich game will sell more? 10 exclusive games a year or one Halo a year? Simple maths.
4. PS3 exclusives can at first glance seem to not sell...but every other 360 game besides Gears and Halo can be compareable if you take the install base into consideration. Remember bots, you can't sell more games if there are less consoles.

The only game that I can agree with the bots that sold "poorly" is KZ2.
The genre is the most popular. There was alot of hype and marketing. The technology in the game is unmatched and despite what bots say, It's really fun to play. But still it "only" managed to sell 3 million copies till date. It should at least have sold 2 million more.

The difference is that MAG is a new IP with 256 simultaneous players. The game was made and sold without the "guise" of it being a full campaign + online, unlike ODST. Every map in MAG is brand new to each player, so your argument fails. But I STILL woulda preferred a $40 price tag. But it seems that the development efforts that would've been used on making a campaign, was used into making a 256 player firefight work online. MAG is advertised and sold as what it truly is, an online only game, not much different than Warhawk.

ODST was pawned off to us as a completely brand new Halo experience, which it was not. I do have faith that Reach will be different and a great upgrade/experience.

@artsaber. Argument? It's a fact. ODST was a full campaign with a new approach. It may not have been as long as people wanted but we all new upon it's release how long it was. It has the multiplayer mode. It comes with the complete halo 3 online experience and it invites you to the Halo Reach Beta. MAG gives you online. My point was not to you who apparently hates ODST. My point was to the individual who was saying people who payed full price for ODST are wrong, when MAG is just online. I didn't ask if you liked either game. ODST out of the box has more to offer plain and simple. I'm not saying it's better than MAG but if you explain to any gamer the contents of each product I can guarantee that they will say ODST simply has more out of the box. 256 players online doesn't justify a $60 price tag.

Mag isn't an expansion, it's a new game instead of just throwing in all the mp map you already bought ( with 3 new ones) along with Horde mode(firefight) and a short campaign.

because of the reach beta, Microsoft already had doubt of it selling so instead of bungie releasing it in the summer( which they would've done because it was already finish)

Look at both of them. Now I'm asking which one you like more or how much you want to the price to be. Which package has more in it? That is my point. A comment was made about ODST and the people who purchased it but people purchased MAG as well with just online. The point is to sit there and go oh yeah it's not my money so why am I worried. As for ODST selling just because of the reach beta, I don't know I purchased it for all the reasons above. You could make the argument MAG only is selling because of the 256players right? It's amazing to me how people fail to see the big picture. You don't have to like either game but from a consumer stand point ODST has more in the box. I'm not saying it's for everyone . I can respect your opinion. And it is ok to like whatever game that brings you satisfaction. ODST was just on the Richter Scale of disappointment to me, glad I rented it. That does not mean that many folks did not, and are still enjoying it, but it ain't for me.

But allow yourself a brief moment of honesty. If you take ODST and took "Halo" away from it, and it was not affiliate with the Halo name, but had the same exact characters, would you love it so much?

I know that if Uncharted2 (which sold less by the way) had a different main character than Nathan Drake, I would still love the game... why?

Can you claim the same for ODST? IS the quality there? I see that sort of quality coming out of Reach development screens, it looks promising to me, but ODST? C'Mon, that is an insult to the great MasterChief himself. Reach will honor the great Spartan.

I can look past the "name" of the game and still find the quality that is SUPPOSED to be in the title. Even if Uncharted2 was called "Lost Tombs of Mount Crackus" I would still love the work that made the game great. And if ODST was called "Jesus, Buy Me or Go To Hell" it would still be a shoddy half baked effort, that sold millions not because of quality, but because it was branded "Halo". The existence of Reach's quality and excellence proves this point. It is the version of Halo that many have been waiting for, to cheer for. Unless there is some unfortunate unknown future major disaster impeding the game, it is a day 1 buy for me. But don't piss in my eyes and tell me that ODSt is Reach, because God knows it isn't. As a matter of fact, it didn't even TRY in terms of quality.

I bought Halo 3 ODST and loved it. It is still one of my favorite games from last year.

And all this time PS3 fanboys have been talking crap about it for its price tag. Well now here comes along MAG with no campaign and no co-op mode selling for the same $60 price tag and PS3 fanboys are making excuses for it.

You can say you didn't like ODST all you want, but it doesn't change anything. The objective truth of the matter is that Halo 3 ODST has a campaign (around 6 hours), the co-op Firefight mode (which provides dozens of hours of fun), and every map pack released for Halo 3. MAG has only a multiplayer mode.

Not only that but MAG was mediocre based on what I played in the beta and I think ODST is a far better game. So far it seems even reviewers largely feel that way; MAG has a 77 on metacritic, while ODST has an 83.

So let's put this in perspective. ODST was hated on by PS3 fanboys even though it had a single player campaign not much shorter than Heavenly Sword (which is also a game that was priced at $60 and had no multiplayer or co-op modes). And compared to MAG it has better scores, a campaign, and a co-op mode.

MAG and Heavenly Sword are far worse offenders, but that doesn't stop PS3 fanboys in their hatred of anything and everything pertaining to Halo.-

Yes the PS2 hardware may not have been great but Sony fixed its hardware issues in the third year of the PS2 lifetime. The xbox 360 even in its fifth year has all the hardware issues from launch. Now look at the PS3 Infamous brought comic open world game that whether you are good or bad it leads to consequences, good makes Empire city look clean and tidy, and the citizens adore cole, bad leads Empire city to look like Compton and the citizens want to kill you and you see wanted posters everywhere no game has ever done that before. Uncharted proved that interactive movie experiences can be done in this medium. Quality: visual fidelity does it look next gen, does the environment packs details like holo-screens, pots and pans, etc., gameplay mechanics are the games have complex gameplay in terms you have to press a button at a time to make an action for the character or does one button do multiple actions for the character at a time or is it pick up and play that you don't need to press many buttons the character does the actions automatically like climbing ladders or ledges by itself. My take on the matter is that Sony games do not appeal to the larget market, that is USA, and don't appeal to kids and teens.
A kid will always prefer Marcus Fenix or Master Chief over Nathan Drake, Sev or Cole.
Do teens prefer to play as a postman like Cole over an highly armored badass like Marcus or Shepard?
The answer is no.
A kid would never pick a guy in jeans and white t-shirt over an Alien badass slayer.

And don't say that Gears is 18+, since parents don't truly pay attention to this "detail"

My point is NPD only covers retail sales of new and used games not digital sales, not catalog sales, and not import sales. Not everyone is going to buy a game for $60.00 they would look at online deals like pricegrabber.com or amazon.com and find the game for $40-50 dollars or pay the game in small monthly payments easiest way to buy multiple games at once is through catalog sales by buying 3-4 games $60*4= $240.00 but the person will only be paying $20-30 dollars a month. So please drop the sales argument already because its flawed NPD, Famitsu, and Vgchartz only cover retail sales!!!! so focus instead on the quality of the game and what innovation the game brings. They play the Modern Warfares, DJ HEro, Guitar HEro, Halo, etc. They even ask me as to why I have a PS3. I tell them better exclusives. I attribute this to a few factors:

A) Sony doesn't market its console and games as much as they should

B) I believe that in general PS3 owners are older than 360 and Wii owners therefore tend to have more responsibility and have less time to game.

C) Sony offers a bigger variety of 1st party games as opposed to the 360 which boasts more popular and well established shooters.

A) I have owned the PS3 since launch I think it's a fabulous console, but it doesn't get as much exposure on TV commercials as its counterpart. They worked on it a bit this past holiday season with their clever rumor manager advertisements after the price drop. Sony needs to advertise their first party games more, and remind the consumers that these games can ONLY be played on the PS3.

B) I could be wrong in this area but I'm speaking through experience. Generally speaking I know a lot more PS3 owners that are over 25 than I do 360 owners. If you are older chances are you have more responsibilities, have a budget for games because by this time mommy and daddy aren't purchasing you new games, you have to buy them yourself, or you in fact might be a daddy already buying your kids games. If you don't have your parents buying you games you have to buy them yourself, meaning you will be more selective with your purchase. If you are older chances are you have less time to game so you will buy less games throughout the year.

C) MLB The Show, Flower, Gran Turismo, Ratchet N Clank, God of War, Motorstorm, Killzone 2, Resistance, Demons Souls, Heavy Rain, Uncharted, MGS4...etc. Those are PS3 exclusives I named off the top of my head, check out the variety in those exclusives, you got sports, racing, action game, platform game, rpg, etc... When you think of the 360 you automatically think Halo and Gears of War, those games will sell, a lot, there's no denying that. The PS3 has a wider variety of exclusive franchises and cater to a variety of gamers, it's not just all shooters.

These are just my opinions, I've been gaming for a while I'm 28. I'm so happy to see how the gaming industry has evolved, and see it become so successful on a global scale. No matter which console or games you own, enjoy them. Peace and happy gaming.

Interesting to me that these niche type games that are not tied to blockbuster franchises called GTA, Call of Duty, etc. sell over a million copies...then there are articles about how the games don't sell.

They should ask, how come they are not blockbuster sellers? Well, that is because they are not GTA, Call of Duty, Madden, etc.

As far as the tired Blu Ray excuse...keep in mind that this is current technology now, not next gen. People that bag on that don't sound current on technology, but instead like old geezers out of touch. Which is odd, because I know that video gaming is still a young person's hobby. I suppose fanboys would be singing a different tune if both platforms were up to date on current optical drive technology.

Sony started to tackle their hardware ads very well, but then they had this bad idea that they should promote both in one add. For their heavy hitters that are games some people may shrug off as not their type of game, they need to put money into the marketing for it. Mass Effect is not a game many people would normally be into, yet MS puts a decent ad campaign behind it to get it out and have people become interested in it. I just dont understand how sony hasnt realized that in order to make money, you must spend money on adds. I'm gonna be honest, i dont see ads for any sony products very often..and usually its only a Ps3 add. I havent seen a psp add in forever(since the GT:psp) but they didnt even show off the go...idk, someone needs to make them realize Advertising is more important than having a quality product. people buy what they see.

Sony's PS3 dishes out many games, from EVERY genre! Sony also takes risk for their gamers, and the profession of video games...which is why I love the Playstation brand. (Other systems/companies do things also, but Sony goes the extra mile, in my opinion.)

Take Blu Ray for example: MS could have (and let's face facts, SHOULD HAVE) at least kept HD-DVD, but didn't want to put money up front. (meaning, to take a loss in the beginning of their next generation console sales.) And the same can be said for built in wifi, hard drives, HDMI ports in 1st wave of 360's, and free online. Sony on the other hand....has built a reputation of customer friendly, developer freedom, and price affordable. (Yea, the PS3 was high at 1st, but it dropped down in price FASTER & more frequently than the other two current gen systems!) EVERYONE laughed at Blu Ray, now look at em...I'm sure that 99.9% of the people on this forum has Batman: The Dark Knight on Blu Ray!

Anyhow, check VG Chartz, among others, and you will see that Sony has multiple exclusives that sell great. Sure, No Halo, which is MS's biggest selling exclusive (11.0 million for Halo 3...and 3.6 for ODST). However, add up all of the other 2 systems exclusives, then add up Sony's.....what you will see is a very interesting fact. Sony doesn't have a high seller like Halo 3, or Mario Kart Wii (19.7 million sold), But Sony's strength in high selling exclusives, proves it's strength in numbers. Also, compare the Pro Rated AAA (9.0 and above) exclusives...I wounder which system has the most? Also...which system has 9.0 exclusive rated games in EVERY GENRE??

there are still around 9 million more 360's in households than ps3's, as a huge ps3 lover im saying this.. just think only in the last year has the ps3 started turning its sales around by marketing the console making a price cut etc. before it was hugely priced and under marketed.. so theres one reason

the other problem of sony's is that they tend to market one or 2 games and leave the rest or market and advertise one game(uncharted 2 for example) with ONE ad(pretty much) and hope it does wonders..

but hey they are selling crazy since 09, so you'll see the sales of exclusives go up for sure :) and hopefully they will take what they learned in actually putting out a decent marketing strategy and ad's for the console and start using it with the games also :)

p.s 360 exclusives(without starting a fanboy war here) are cheaper to make, there for giving microsoft and the developers more of a budget for the marketing and campaign, plus the vast amount of 360s owned it makes sense that they sell more :)

when i play uncharted 2 i cannot seem to get the display to 1080p. i have tried adjusting the settings and it automatically goes to 720p every time. my 360 upconverts games to 1080p why cant my ps3 do this? what am i doing wrong?

Not every PS3 game upconverts to 1080p and even games that support this don't always do this automatically. The reason for this is that some games don't work well when upconverted to 1080p. This is kind of a problem for some 360 games; for example, RE5 upconverted to 1080p has a TON of screen tear. It isn't game breaking but it was annoying.

But... Looking at your post history you weren't looking for a serious answer.

Wow you are really mis-informed there my friend. After a little bit of research i found out that uncharted 2 must be played at its native 720p setting because the ps3 cannot handle 1080p. And yes, i have a 1080p samsung plasma which looks freakin sweet. uncharted 2 looks good but it cannot run at 1080p at 120 fps like ken kutaragi said it would.

I would have to assume that aggressive marketing has been Sony's downfall in this area. When a new Halo comes along, it it hyped and marketed in a way that makes other 360 games fade into obscurity (almost like they don't exist).

I don't see enough advertising for Sony exclusive games like Uncharted, or even for the machine itself (I'm in Australia mind you).

On saying this, Mark Of Kri, Ico, SOTC, BG&E, Okami, Psychonauts and many more totally awesome PS2 games also did dismal sales, and many of these titles were also released for 360.

Many people are casuals and only bought there 360's for Halo..sure in the wait they had some big sellers like Gears and such. PS3 I assume is the same, people only bought (or will buy) the PS3 for GT5, GOW3, and the usual big gun blockbusters, and they have some success with other games.

Another thing is the name Unchartered........It sounds like an accounting firm (don't get me wrong, I own both games and regard them to be the best of the best). But it seems if you have words like war (gears of war, modern warfare) or any other name that is straight to the point...then your game has a better chance of selling big. Ico means nothing to most, as well as Shadow of The Collusus.....they are obscure names that don't grab the majority of ill=informed gamers attention from the start.

A catchy name, with a strong marketing push is Sony's main problem...Now Heavy Rain is around the corner, yet who is looking out for a videogame that seems to forecast the weather. It's a shame that these artsy, new genre defining games are named artsy fartsy as well, as I believe if they called the games Shadowkiller, Warmonger, Devils Of War, Shoot to Kill, or any other mind numbingly by the numbers name they would have a chance to sell better.

I mean Gears is a good example, it has a quite catchy (but also smart) name, this combined with that awesome tv commercial with that awesome song setting the tone (Mad World I think).....just helped sell the game...I mean the add gave us visual and audio hype, that made anyone who viewed that even has a small interest in games want to go straight out and buy it.

I mean, who goes to school or work and starts asking, "oh man, have you played that game Ico, or Psychonauts", or other such named games....Nobody really, everyone is to busy spitting sh1t about "cooler" sounding games like Grand Theft Auto, Gears Of War and the like. I guess gaming is still widely considered geeky enough, so majority of sheep want to keep up with the Jones's.....I prefer to just buy the games that I like, regardless of name, and hype.... I just keep a look out on many sites and mags, and read about any and all games to see if they cater to my tastes.

I agree with the it being one of the best games around atm psgeneration, proabably even one of the best games off all time. But the fact remains, that the games story, gameplay and everything else equates to a widely appealing game, thats sales should be close to what Gears Of Wars were......Yet it is not. It ships with newly sold machines in package deals, as Gears did, yet it is eons behind in sales to games of similar class...... And I put it down to Sony not marketing the game, and defining what type of game it is, how it looks and plays in there advertising campaigns, and the fact that something simple like the name of a game, eg. Unchartered sounds like something to do with accounting, in fact in Australia Chartered Accountants are advertised frequently. So to me, it is suffice to think that ND should have come up with a more catchy name, as it is not a game name that has stuck in people heads.

What ever happened to the days when a Title reached a million sales. I mean thats a huge margin of profits not to mention a ton of people are playing that title. Basically any developer would be happy to see their game reach 1 million sales.

Heck what about smaller studios, their dang happy if their game reaches 500k units. Its all about size of the studio and audience. If you have over 500 people working on a game costing over +40 mil to make, then ya maybe then your aim is for over a million but most games today are half that cost and development size.

Everyone including PS3 owners has it crammed into there heads that sales equal quality. Even long ago people brought tons of products including pet rocks, fuzzy seat covers,platform shoes with fish in them, gold teeth, chia pet etc. Does that mean all this stuff wasn't worthless junk? No, it just ment that you were dumb enough to fall for the hype. Look at Modern Warfare 2.It netted them 1 billion worldwide but it is so easily hacked and full of glitches, it makes you wonder if Infinity ever glanced at the game before it was put on shelves. Yet when Modern Warfare 3 comes out it will sell twice as fast with probably 10 times the glitches. Uncharted 2 was close to perfection, with almost no glitches or problems and was nominated for GOTY by at least 30 times.Yet it struggles to reach the 3 million mark and is accused of being cliche and overated. Does that make any sense to anyone who isn't a fanboy?

I guess the answer lies in the marketing and advertisement of the game. They are not many commercials for other PS3 exclusives, and Sony isn't greatest in the advertising department. Some of Sony ADs I've seen gives me a "WTF just happen" feeling. If Microsoft knows how to do anything, then it is hyping a game. Swear I get goosebumps watching them, and that's why 360 exclusives sell very well.

Compare and contrast the commercials for exclusives of the competing console and tell me what feeling you get from watching them.

I mean plenty of xbox gamers over looked top games like Beyond Good & Evil and Chronicles of Riddick, which by the way I bought on PS3, and finished EFBB part, and found it criminally under rated and neglected on Xbox1, in fact I am a guilty party that bought mine for Halo, and now I find that Riddick was a MUCH better game.

Just play the games you like...It seems some 360 fanboys claim PS3 has no games one minute, then claims nobody buys them when they do....then they rave about how many good games they have on 360, and yet, instead of playing and putting the effort into those games, they come here to bash what they haven't got.

Man u sure excluding a bunch of games that aren't shooter. These games not only sell well on x360 but are also diverse. Where the f are these:

1. Project Gotham 3 and 4 (Racing)
2. Forza 2 and 3 (Racing)
3. Test Drive Unlimited (Racing)
4. Lost Odyssey (one of the highest JRPG selling record this gen and a good game)
5. Fable 2 (WRPG)
7. KuF:cod (kRPG, action RPG, if you like Diablo type, i don't see why you won't like this game, given it got crappy rating, but i love it. Spend probably +700 plus on this cause i'm a diablo fan)
8. CrackDown (sand box)
9. Dead Rising (action)
10.ME 1 and 2 (yes it does have shooting, but WRPG not too keen with using sword in the future mind u. Having a F* sword is not a requirement for an RGP. Infact, ME has much more RPG element than other so call RPG like folk lore? Saying ME is a shooter just show that you haven't play the game)
11.Viva Pinata (platform)
12.Okami: element of Power (platform)
13.Banjose Kazooii: nut and bolts (platform)
14.Halo Wars (RTS, it is actually pretty decent RTS, not as good as Star Craft, but for a console using controller, it is pretty good)
15. There are a lot more RPG games (JRPG, WRPG, KRPG) for the x360 as well, but they aren't selling as well or doesn't have good score. It may depend on each personnel taste. There are some good games like Last Remanent, infinite undiscovery, Magna Carta 2, etc....but i guess i like RPG

4. Fable 3?
5. Kingdom under fire 2: action RTS (kuF 1 on the orginal xbox was my favorite, so much better than those dynasty warrior crap)

Amen. SCE's marketing director in the States should be fired, Sony is marketing its hardware but doing a terrible job marketing its games.

But it's a bit of a misnomer to say exclusives don't sell... Worldwide, Metal Gear Solid 4 for example has sold over 4 and a half million last time I saw an article relating to this months ago, and GT5 Prologue, probably the only game in the world where people will pay to play a mere demo of a game, has sold nearly 4 million, Uncharted 2 has sold over 2 and a half million.

This has turned into a 360 vs PS3 debate...and as bad as the 360 fanboys claim that PS3 fanboys are over run on this site, it seems there are just as many Xbox Extremist, MS Neo Nazi's fighting the cause for Bills bank account, otherwise this topic wouldn't have delved into a console comparison topic...All I will say is I love have both machines (all 3 if we include my little boys Wii), and all offer something the other one doesn't. All the asshat fanboys on here comparing diversity in both systems games lineup need to remove there heads from there asses and realize that both machines offer great variety.

Both have games that are simply unique to that system. I mean I can't get a d/l'ble game like the awesome Shadow Complex or TrialsHD on the PS3, just as I can't get awesomeness like Wipeout HD, Burn Zombie Burn, SSDHD, and such on 360. Advertising and Marketing... Look at Halo and Mass Effect. The money splashed out is phenominal. Advertise the games not the system. Look how well Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet and Clank were advertised last gen. Remember... " one of 30 weapons not suited for this world" That was a game that was well marketed and done well. See the game adverts imply the system it's on. So push the marketing of the exclusives. The multi plats will handle themselves. Let's hope that Sony ups their game this year. this is just stupid the more i see these articles the more im convinced the media (western) and gamers this gen are completely stupid. why does anyone care what game sells what? take U2 as an example 360 fanboys called part 1 a flop and it got a sequel, they called KZ2 a flop and its getting a sequel.

i know people like to say advertising makes a big difference and to a certain extent it does, but if your a true gamer you should damn well know what games are coming out now and for the foreseeable future.

i know i dont need advertising to know what games i want now into next year.

Millions! It should AT LEAST have Halo like numbers. It's a disgrace that it hasn't sold as well as Halo 3 and the only thing to blame is the Playstation community. Quality developers like Naughty Dog deserve much more sales (and profit!) than they got with this game.

It's how the game sold compared to other ones (although I'm not sure that UC2 has sold 3 million yet). Halo and both Gears outsold it handily on a smaller install base than the PS3 had when UC2 came out. That's pathetic.
