Heavy Rain 'not written for tabloids or censorship'

David Cage, the creative mind behind Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain, insists he didn't write the PS3-exclusive thriller with tabloids or censorship in mind.

Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Cage said: "When you write something or you develop a project like Heavy Rain, you don't write for tabloids. You don't wonder what censorship will think of it, because otherwise you'd never do anything."

I don't think it would have hurt him to go a little further with the sex scenes, there is a lot of talk and occasionaly fox/tabloid hysteria about sex in games, but in reality it is never explicit or anything above what in a film would be a 12 rating. It's not that important, have pre ordered this one, but you know, I hope I live long enough to see this medium mature further in this respect.

toaster5202d ago

Seriously man. Nobody wants to see a picture of abs you Googled and used as your icon.

On Topic: I think that people who fuss over sex in videogames are stupid. It's easier for kids to access latenight porn on HBO than to load up a videogame and play until they get to the 5 second sex scene. If I remember it correctly M stands for Mature, so if you aren't mature enough to understand that sex is a natural thing then you shouldn't even be allowed to play the game. Some people need to just grow the f*ck up and accept that gaming isn't just for the kiddies anymore.

Your making many fatty gamers jealous. But who are you trying to impress? It's a proven fact that are no girlz on the internetz.

Anyways, yes, I think Cage should have the freedom to do what he wants but ironically enough, Cage is somewhat in a Cage. If I'm not mistaken it was Sony themselves who felt the game went too far which is also ironic because Sony usually allows total freedom for their developers.

My God those abs are tight.

KruLLit5202d ago

haha, u guys r just jealous ;)

Do they mean 3D characters have more sexual appeal or why the high rating on games like this?

Lykon5202d ago

@ cyrax_82 toaster and alpha-male22 and all the agrees to cyrax_82.ok i changed my avatar to this fluffy wolf is that better?

sikbeta5202d ago

"My God those abs are tight"

God, What's wrong with you? j/k

@Lykon

It would be cool but at the same time we probably have the same problem as usual with the whole "Video Games = BAD + Sex = Video Games Even Worse", well at least in the Land of Freedom aka America...

How Ironic lol

Fcuk the tabloids.

All they produce is low grade garbage "journalism" 99% of the time anyway, especially here in the UK. The media over here dominates everything and love to jump on the "controversial game" type headlines, wouldn't suprise me if this picks up and bit of controversial press.

@Lykon: Seriously dude, change the avatar. You wouldn't walk around E3 or TGS with your shirt off talking games with people would you?

Rowsdower5202d ago (Edited 5202d ago )

your avatar is making me forget all about my promise to jesus

oh yeah Heavy Rain, that 9 minute video showed some nice man action

disagreeing will only make you like it more

seriously though, Heavy Rain looks so interesting cant wait

Lykon5202d ago

lol @ promise to jesus , it's ok to be bi curious

moe845202d ago

Cool, hopefully it works out and proves that truly mature games can exist and do very well.

As for that nine minute video.. It was cool and all, but I have to say the face on the guy was completely retarded looking. Seriously, did they take a child with down-syndrome to use as a baseline? Cool visuals are great, but don't drop the ball in areas where fine details count the most. At the mirror the overly-elongated lips and cheeks are way over done. It's like the bottom half of his head is fat, while the rest is normal. Or, they had downs in mind.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1255d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1255d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1254d ago (Edited 1254d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.

Have you played Detroit? While it’s my personal favorite, I fully understand many preferring Heavy Rain more. I’m glad you enjoyed Heavy Rain too.

bouzebbal1412d ago

def. one of my top 3 best experiences on PS3

ClayRules20121412d ago

bouzebbal

That’s awesome to hear! What’re the other 2 best experiences?

akaFullMetal1412d ago

Great game, need to get started on Detroit soon.

ClayRules20121412d ago

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yes, Detroit is a masterpiece of a game, and their best work to date “in my opinion”

ClayRules20121412d ago

Wow, 10 years...and yet, still one of the best/most emotional/thrilling gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So grateful to Sony for believing in Quantic Dream’s vision for this game, and giving them a chance. I’ll never forget David Cage saying “We want to challenge the player, but not with the controller, but mentally, with their decisions of “How far would you go to save someone you love” Well, they broke my emotional gamer heart lol.

My teenage son refuses to play this game, because I’ve told him in little detail the emotional impact it had on me all those years ago. Maybe one day he will.

Still have my origami crane they teach you how to make when you're installing for the first time.

it's been 10 years? wow, that was so fast, I feel like this console gen went fast as well although it hasn't. I really look forward to the PS5 this holiday season though.
