PS3 vs. 360 - Army of Two comparison shows differences

Army of Two: The 40th day offers nice visuals - but how well has the game been ported to the different consoles? Check out this screenshot comparison between the PS3 and the 360 version of Army of Two: The 40th day. The PS3 version clearly lacks anti-aliasing.

The uncompressed screenshots have been taken on a professional grabbing system in 720p. The PS3 was set to "Full RGB" and "Superwhite" settings for better comparison purposes.

Honestly, I looked at the pics. Which one is better? They both look bad.

This comparison is like two people comparing who has made the best looking crap floating in the bowl.

morganfell5212d ago

They both look like crap but the 360 version looks like blurry crap.

commodore645212d ago

Wait.. Surely it can't be?
Pennywise and Morganfell BOTH in first with timely damage control?

*looks at jaggy ps3 shadows*
Yep, figures.

Pennywise5212d ago

You're right commodore, my stalker...

I didn't dislike AoT because of the clunky controls and bad graphics... I just cant stand jaggies. I hate to break it to you, but the PS3 version looks better overall.

But - Damage control must continue...This game is junk just like your taste and attempted attacks on peoples opinions.

morganfell5212d ago

No need to do damage control when the PS3 has produced the best looking console titles ever. It is not the console playing graphical catchup.

Just because a multiplatform developer is to afraid to exploit the graphical prowess of the console that has proven itself the visual leader is no sort of bragging rights for the console that trails in rendering ability.

Cueil5212d ago

but the crappy bottom version is the PS3 version

NateCole5212d ago

x360 version looks dull and blurry. PS3 version looks more defined and vibriant. Visually is a big downgrade for PS3 fans that played U2 or KZ2. That is the truth.

Nikuma5212d ago

PS3 version has shadows that look more jaggy, and the 360 version looks a bit more blurry overall.

bjornbear5212d ago

the top image is washed out and blurry

the bottom is bright colourful and clean o.O...

But in motion is when you can tell, not from photos -_-

BlackTar1875212d ago (Edited 5212d ago )

which one is which?

Bigpappy5212d ago

They both look good enough to play. The 360 version is a bit better looking but not by much. PS3 users are hating on games for no good reason. I guess you guys will only play 2 or 3 exclusives a year. Most multi plat's are going to look better on the 360. Just get over it and stop argruing about it every time a comparison gets approved. The slight difference don't make the game less enjoyable. Fanboys just look for something to fight about. Most of you were not ever going to get the game anyway so why even care which looks better. Just move on.

SilentNegotiator5212d ago

Pfft, blind fanboys are always praising blur filters as added AA.

mal_tez925212d ago

Because I saw better graphics than this in 2006

Christopher5212d ago

XBox 360 looks a bit more faded due to poor gamma settings.

PS3 has some jagged shadows that look more like issues with the screen capturing software they used.

So... I guess it's up to fanboys to decide the winner with pointless internet rambling!

DelbertGrady5212d ago (Edited 5212d ago )

Whatever happened to Lens of truth and Eurogamers comparisons? Not a huge fan of it but at least they did it on a more professional level(measuring framerates, screen tear, resolutions etc.) than these crappy german sites.

rezenu5212d ago (Edited 5212d ago )

But you know the fanpeople around here. There still has to be a stupid argument over which one is better.

Overall, the game looks ugly, imo.

darthv725212d ago (Edited 5212d ago )

when fans of a console smear a multiplatform game because it doesnt surpass the other console, basically stating they didnt want it in the first place.

If you dont have anything nice to type then why type anything at all? Oh wait...this is n4g...nevermind.

*looks at screens* come to think of it...you guys are right. both look like crap.

carry on!

Tanny922255212d ago

Ps3 version is more vibrant and clear, but suffers from horrible aliasing.
360 version is blurrier and its colors seem more washed out, but it has slightly higher res textures and better (but still bad) aliasing.

At first glance, the ps3 version looks better, but I will have to give it to the 360 version which has slightly less aliasing.

TheDeadMetalhead5212d ago

The 360 version looks like it has the brightness setting too high, and I don't see any jaggies on the PS3 version. @_@

ikkokucrisis5212d ago

Ugh, why compare screenshots of such an ugly game?
Why not compare UC2 on the PS3 with the 360 ver...
oh whoops it's not multiplat! haha

SuperStrokey11235211d ago

The top looks far worse, not that either looks expecially good but the top is worse by far.

SixZeroFour5211d ago

360 (top)

-the textures are more detailed
-the shadows are more smooth

ps3 (bottom)

-the colors are more vibrant

mastiffchild5211d ago

Another day another crppy, pointless comparison piece posted on N4G. makes me kind of sad to be alive!!

Jaggy shadows on the PS3 and a little blur on the 360 version? Who cares? Yet again it's not nearly enough to merit changing your choice from whichever console you would have chosen to play it on anyway. A few jaagies and/or a little blur is not going to override controller preference or playing where your mates are, is it? No,. no it's not. the game is NOT a great looker on either console and the main draw is the co-op which, after a fashion, works OK in the demo and is better than last time out.

No need for either set of zealots to crow over such small beans as it's hardly the best looking console game ever made, now is it? re we meant to assume it's as good as it could possibly have been on both platforms? No again. It's as good and as equal as they could make it with what they had with parity, yet again, being their main concern so it sells on both consoles. There are no points to be scored here-unless we're deluded enough to say this game looks better than Gears2 AND Killzone2-and we aren't that far gone are we?

Seriously, why argue over this kind of thing? the differences are tiny and it doesn't push the PS3 OR the 360 very hard AND all it wants is to look as similar as possible. Jebus!

Wake me up when there's a comparison of a multiplat game that challenges the looks of the best games on either system will you? Or when there's, y'know, some proper, game breaking issues with one or the other but not for the next however many multis that, like this, show us nothing to less than nothing about our machinery.

Government Cheese5211d ago

360 version looks faded and PS3 has jaggy shadows. If you disagree then you are blind.

vhero5211d ago

Do we have to compare every non exclusive game??? OMG!!!

MNicholas5211d ago (Edited 5211d ago )

This far into the life-cycle their PS3 graphics should be at least at the level of the original Uncharted game which maxed out the RSX but didn't use the Cell much.

Despite relying on just the PS3's GPU, the original Uncharted game was found, by Digital Foundry, to easily outperform every single multi-console title.

Realistically speaking, we can't expect anything to rival Uncharted 2 but surely, after all these years, we should be seeing more multi-console games match the visual quality of the original Uncharted.

Vivid colors and aliasing on PS3, pale colors and blurry image on Xbox 360. Interesting way to avoid "superior versions" and making community agree on "both look inferior".

Typical-Guy5212d ago

Who cares! this game sucks T-REX's balls.

bacon135212d ago

Wow, a game must be really bad for it to suck extinct animal testicles. 40th Day loses with time travel fallaccio!

xbox3flopteen5212d ago

warp-suck lol.

an´way, did the t-rex had ball, how d fck do you kno that huh¿? on topic.

yes in the forth picture you can notice the difference here, but even if the ps3 one did look more bad than the xbox, this game still stay being a crAp.

mastiffchild5211d ago

I think he means Marc Bolan's bands testes actually-though that to, in some cases, and definitely Marc's, would still take some time travel. though it would still, possibly, be as much fun as this game if it's no better, in the end, than the first one!

i_am_interested5212d ago (Edited 5212d ago )

thats gotta be the ps3 version on the bottom

some companies still havent learned their lessons with the unreal engine on it

that foliage in the first shot on the ps3 version just gave me eye cancer

Cueil5212d ago

you should call your attorny right now... I'm guessing you can get 2 to 3 million... :p

table5212d ago

lol... if people can genuinly argue a meaningful difference here then they deserve to be castrated.

Top 10 Xbox 360 Games That Need to be Backward Compatible

Kevin F. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Many of the best Xbox 360 games are playable on the Xbox One and Series X|S consoles. Some even with some enhanced visuals and performance. Unfortunately, not every game from the Xbox 360 library has received this glorious feat of being able to be played on more modern Microsoft consoles."

autobotdan1022d ago

The Spider-man games will never happen. The xbox 360 Marvel Ultimate Alliance games have a better chance of happening than Spider-man titles but won't happen. The Xbox One Ultimate Alliance games delisted years ago

Vits1022d ago

Yeah... you can totally forget about those entries that got delisted because of licensing issues. Those are not happening.

MetalProxy1022d ago

Wait everything isn’t BC? You guys act like it is lol

porkChop1022d ago

Almost all of the games people want to play are BC, and that's a hell of a lot better than having none available.

ApocalypseShadow1022d ago (Edited 1022d ago )

Almost all the games people want to play? Not true. Majority picks screw over the minority who have games collecting dust. Metal is right. Fans make it seem that it's all. 39/997 games from OG Xbox is NOT all. 568/2154 from 360 is NOT all. But you guys play it up like it is.

And from my count, there are 4,000+ PS4 BC games on PS5 that I see. And almost every VR game. Series X has no Kinect games or Kinect 2. But you played that up too. No more dancing.

As for the article, some of the BC games make sense. The others with Spider-Man aren't happening.

For pirates. I love running PS2 games on my PC. I can run them directly from the *real* disc. That is not an option for PS3 emulation. Thus....the problem. Endorse this and you endorse piracy. Period.

AmstradAmiga2192d ago

Well, Sony could have kept backward compatibility and not locked it behind a GaaS pay wall.

Outside_ofthe_Box2192d ago

Emulation is going to happen regardless if BC exists or not lol

Razzer2192d ago (Edited 2192d ago )

"Well, Sony could have kept backward compatibility and not locked it behind a GaaS pay wall. "

Right....cuz that halted Xbox 360 piracy in its tracks? Oh....wait.

bigmalky2192d ago (Edited 2192d ago )

How about for people who own the discs and a broken console?

Creating backup copies to play games that you own on an emulator of a console you have, and working or broken, is pretty much legal.

Yes, there will always be pirates, but there are some people who like to go back to their old games without having to buy a second hand console that may or may not work.

Emulation is a great idea, especially if you have already spent a fortune on the items you own, but cannot use.

2192d ago
starchild2192d ago

Most people would just rip the disc to their hard drive anyway. There's nothing wrong with PS3 emulation and it doesn't equate to piracy.

Razzer2192d ago

"Most people would just rip the disc to their hard drive anyway."

Oh come on. Most people go find the bit torrent.

cj1pate1012192d ago

Mr by the law, considering I owned a original ps3 and if I download the games I owned whats the big deal.

MadLad2192d ago

Offer your games on PC, and then less of this will happen.
And that's not even speaking of the visual and performance difference.

Christopher2192d ago (Edited 2192d ago )

***Well, Sony could have kept backward compatibility and not locked it behind a GaaS pay wall.***

They actually couldn't. They shot themselves in the foot in that regard by going the route of the cell architecture. It requires a much better cpu than current generation consoles have to emulate and run.

Fact is that these games are running poorly on PC now and likely will for another two+years.

I need to build a PC that can at least play PS2 games. I have a working PS3 and I don't mind using it to play PS3 games.... but since Sony doesn't support BC anymore.... you have no choice. The PS4 pro, should allow emulation for PS1 and PS2 games....

Guyfamily9992192d ago

The PS4 actually does emulate PS2 games in HD. It's just not universal (it's only a select few games) and you can't actually use your discs, you have to pay a bunch for digital versions. At that point just use a PC.

I'd love if the PS5 was fully backwards compatible (PS4 games natively as a PS4 Pro, PS 1-3 via emulation).

Thomaticus2192d ago

Someone made a video saying that PS4 has software emulation built in according to hackers that were able to hack an older firmware and enable the ability.

found the video: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

PUBG2192d ago

I'd like to se Sony do this on their own, and come out with a proper digital marketplace on PC. Consoles will always be around in some form, but PC is the future.

ziggurcat2192d ago

there's a better method here:

it's called buying a dirt-cheap PS3, and playing the games natively on the console.

conanlifts2192d ago

I would say the better method would be to copy MS on the X. Backwards compatibility with increased resolution and frame rate for no extra cost. The pro could do this. Or even just B/C on a ps4 without having to pay anything.

Bladesfist2192d ago (Edited 2192d ago )

How is that better? You spend money on a console that has a limited lifetime and will only play the games as they were made instead of not spending money and just emulating the games at resolutions and frame rates that will only get better over time, better yet, It will last for as long as the software is executable. Which will be much longer than the lifespan of any hardware.

It might be the best way to play the games if you have to play them right now but I imagine that people that have held out for this long don't mind waiting a little longer. If you're buying used, morals don't come into the question as no money is going to Sony or the developers either way.

ziggurcat2192d ago

"How is that better?"

you're playing the games natively on the console.

"You spend money on a console that has a limited lifetime and will only play the games as they were made instead of not spending money and just emulating the games..."

heaven forbid that you spend money on something instead of stealing...

BVFTW2192d ago

Buying the game and playing it on an emulator is not stealing, there are people playing pirate copies of games on a hacked PS3 (real hardware) right now, as well as stolen discs, morals are up to the individual and not the format/hardware.

Bladesfist2192d ago

@BVFTW I agree, I own three of these games but don't have access to a working PS3. I would love to be able to play them again without shelling out any more money.

BVFTW2191d ago (Edited 2191d ago )

I know, Bladesfist XD my PS3 is on it's last legs and I hav'ent even played half of my backlog yet! I've a lot of retro games as well and sometimes I play one of my oldies in the office through emulation, it's a great advantage not having to haul my old consoles and a crtv with me if I'm just looking for one quick fix with one game.

It Takes One Game to Kill a Franchise

We all have game franchises we love so much that we don't care what others
think. Then there are games that the majority just agree shouldn't exist.
Sometimes it just takes one of these to kill our most beloved series.

It Takes One Game to Kill a Franchise

Street Fighter V and SoulCalibur V come to mind.

naruga2813d ago (Edited 2813d ago )

^^ i agree .....i also damn totally agree with Halo 2 ...if it wasnt the huge fanbase behind the first one and the huge potential of the franchise would be a dead IP ...HALO CE for me is still an unsurpassed FPS but HALO 2 completely trashed the series to below mediocrity quality levels...i also partly agree with MGS2 ...it had ridiculously convoluted and gibberishy plot considering what masterpiece MGS1 was ...but it narrowly escaped...also RE 4 could be considered such type of game ...RE was doomed after that

darthv722813d ago (Edited 2813d ago )

Interesting that you would pick Halo 2 over 4 or 5. I have yet to play 5 but as for the other 4, not one of them has disappointed me in terms of story or play mechanics. Halo 1 is a classic and 2 improved on everything while being a cliffhanger and then 3 having the dual story lines was a nice way to bring things to a close (of that trilogy).

4 was an interesting take on trying to create a new story where it had initially ended. The demand of knowing what was going to happen next for MC was what prompted them to come up with the new trilogy. I hope 6 will bring all things to a proper close... for now.

2813d ago
BrianOBlivion2813d ago

Halo 2 was better than 1 in every way.

MoveTheGlow2813d ago

Dang it, fighting games. Get your single-player content together.

blackblades2813d ago

More like it takes one guy or team to kill a franchise. Its not the game fault it's the person behide it. Same with movies.

xtheblackparade2813d ago

True, and it depends on what the devs learn from the experience whether or not the franchise can make a comeback. Or even make it's first "comeback". Like with Nier. Nobody cared about the first one, but it's hype all around for the sequel :p

StormLegend2813d ago

This is very true, many franchises have dealt with this.

SaveFerris2813d ago

Sometimes a game can kill a franchise even before it starts, if it doesn't perform as well as expected. The Order 1886 is an example of this.

USMC_POLICE2813d ago

That universe though, I hope it gets a great sequel.

SaveFerris2813d ago

Yeah. I hope Sony will one day look to revive it.

akurtz2813d ago

it cant be dead if there wasnt news about the franchise beijg cancelled

USMC_POLICE2813d ago

I want to say socom with socom 4 as it was by far the worst but confrontation had its issues also. However compared to socom 4 confrontation was amazing. Still not socom 2 but it worked.
