The Gamers Temple writes: "Because of this reviewing gig, I play a whole lot of video games. Like a WHOLE lot. More than most, I gather. I've spent hundreds upon thousands of hours playing and writing about games over the past few years, and it can be easy to slip into a rut and just go through the motions - play game, beat game, complain about game, start next game. Every so often, though, a video game comes along that is so unbelievable that it reinvents the whole hobby/job for me. The last such game was the Sony PSP classic Patapon. It was so much fun, so original and so addictive that it dragged a perfect 100/100 score out of me. It's been a few years since then, and a new game has managed to leave me with the same awestruck joy I experienced when I tapped out my first pata-pata-pata-pon. That game is Atlus' action RPG Demon's Souls. This adventure is hands-down the very best game I've played in quite some time and barring some unseen contender, it gets my vote for game of the year 2009. I'll do my best, but I'm not sure the written word can do justice to just how amazing this game is. And no, I'm not even exaggerating. Not even close."
With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond
PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?
Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.
GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.
But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.
Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.
Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.
I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.
You might not be able to believe this, but Dark Souls is a pretty tricky game on the PlayStation 3.
Soulsborne games are infamously difficult. But why has that difficulty been the secret sauce to success for many of these titles in the genre?
Rewarded effort feels good.
Starting out bad at something and getting better with practice makes accomplishments meaningful.
Getting through these games feels like a journey of self improvement, lol.
You only have yourself to blame if things go poorly, but in a similar way overcoming challenge is similarly a function of your own growth.
I think because the games are fair. Gamers can tell that it’s due to their own abilities and not some BS.
I've always loved the sense of adventure and wonder in these games. There's no hand holding, there are surprises and traps everywhere and you have to figure out what some items do. Beating a heide knight was like an accomplishment for me the first time and it felt good to earn that sword he dropped. I've spent hundreds of hours in souls games ever since Kings Field on PS1. The lore is incredible and it makes you think about the history of the world you're in. I can't wait for Shadow of the Erdtree.
It's the recipe of fair difficulty, presentation, boss battles and lore that attract me to these games. The From Souls games have always had a nebulous quality to them that I find fascinating. Demystifying them is a big part of the fun.
I think its the atmosphere and gameplay. Each of these games unique ways to play and unique settings/atmospheres that are in a league of its own.
Demon Soul only deserve the 99/100 score if you enjoy boring, pointless, repetitive grind.
Now picture your favorite game, Call of Duty, Killzone 2, Final Fantasy, Fallout 3, Uncharted 2 Mass Effect...whatever...insert Demon Souls 1991 respawn mechanic into those games. Would Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2 be fun if everytime you die, you're booted back all the way to beginning of the level with full respawns? If you consider that to be fun then Demon Souls is for you.
Thats the problem with Demon Soul's. The difficulty curve is artificially inflated by this grind heavy gameplay mechanic from an Asian MMO. Without it, the game isn't that hard since there really isn't much to it, and you'll soon realize how average the content and the gameplay really is.
Demons Souls deserves 100/100.
It's a game that separates men from kids. It's for the hardcore gamer and has plenty of reputability.
btw you fail if you think you need to grind in Demons Souls.
My lv 52 character is on its NG+++.. yeah.. that means finished the game 3 times.. should i repeat that?
getting to 52 is a matter of simple completeing a few levels. Now i just use all my souls to upgrade weapons..
while my newer account is lv 153 and is on his NG++++++.
If you do not possess the skill to play a game, don't blame the game for it.
Grinding MMO mechanics my ass =/
