PS3 Now 'In Full Swing'

Heads-up, PS3 fans! According to sources, the PS3 "has officially entered production". It seems that the PS3 is currently in the works, and hopefully, it won't be too long for fans to get their hands on the much-awaited console.

Phil Harrison, Sony's president of worldwide studios says that production is in full swing, from a developer's point of view; developer kits have been shipped and the controller is also in developers' hands. Apparently, Sony's got everything set, minus some improvements and modifications. The games, too, are also being tested, as many studios already have Blu-ray burners in their PCs.

So, final version of PS3 hardware? Check. PS3 controller? Check. Games? Check. Release date? Errrrm... Soon? Hopefully, we'll know more when Ken Kutaragi gives his speech at the Tokyo Games show on September 22.

And yes, there has been talk of Asustek starting up production in Taiwan, but that talk was squashed, not confirmed, by Asustek or Sony.

I recently joined this site only because i felt there was an inbalance. So many of the 360 fans bash the ps3 which is not even out yet. But they proclaim from some divine revelation that ps3 is going to suck depsite the pros of the console. This to me is a discriminatory approach to handling this whole affair. I myself, own a 360 but i still want to own the ps3, which i feel is going to be a very good console, if not the best (judging from how well sony did with the ps2. and excluding the handheld because nintendo alredy had that on lock).

Can you remember how Sony fanboys bullsh*tted around when the xbox came out on every site there was? That was not fair, because the xbox was just the stronger console.

Urm the standard GPU that Sony had to buy late in process first they thought Cell could take over even GPU tasks but they found out it couldn't? So a standard GPU, that's why the spec's aren't out officially because they can't match the 360 GPU spec's...

Let me think... Because they said with the PS3 we would get in the REAL HD area? With 1080p? While ALL games are in 720p actually? Only the GT4 HD smugged up PS2 DEMO in 1080p on last E3?

Maybe because lying about 2 x HDMI, 3 x Gigabit Ethernet ports and the real reason why BluRay is integrated isn't cool?

Could be about BR discs/games that will cost 79,89 up to 100 dollars/euro's as stated by Sony themselves and other consoles games will be 50 to 60 dollars/euro's?

Have to go on? Dev's that say the PS is a pain in the ars to program for? It costs 1,5 times as much to produce on it? No free 4 x FSAA because it doesn't have the 10 MB extra fast embedded ram on GPU as the 360 and even the Wii have?

Reasons enough I could go on for hours NO RUMBLE or even a day. But I guess to convince anyone we should wait till 17th november. When the 360 demopods with Gears of War and Forza 2 are running besides the PS3 demopod with Genji 2. And let's hope that because of bad yields 10 to 20% on Cell it runs on more then 3 cores and no core breaks down while playing

When a console maker liks sony, Sega, Microsft, and Nintendo release a console the price should reflect the quality the Jaguar and 3DO came out and there was significant graphical and game play enhancements to justify the cost. The PS3 is using a HD DVD player to justify the larger price margin. But as a game console it will do no more than the completion and given the history it will be capable of less. So I feel the PS3 will be fun hell the damn Atari was and is still fun but nothing not even brand loyalty can justify a $600.00 console. I am a parent I would never spend $600.00 on a toy and that is how the general public see a game console a toy. That is why. When you use the cell in medical and data transfer systems is much more effective than in a game console. The separate this new tech. will be amazing in action in a hospital to transfer of share medical records from one sever to the next. The cell is a sever chip. The 360 uses the same chip archtecture as the Mac G5 the strongest home PC every made. The Mac G5 at its strongest uses a quad core but the 360 uses a tri core. The tech. But as far as my knowledge goes, it works a bit different, you cannot just count them up.

The PPE sets up the tasks for the SPE's. And isn't the PS3 Cell actually made of one PPE and 6 SPE's so called 7 'cores' in total and not 8?

Furthermore, the PPE only has two threads indeed. The SPE's are all communicating through the PPE.

So that's just 2 cores to get the main job done, cut into pieces to the subcores. Doesn't change anything to my story is it actually. The problem stays the same: they're asymmetrical cores, need different compilers for each core it's an @rs to program for.

The cell has about 10 different ahetectures that will be in future use the cell in the PS3 will not be the one you are referring too. The cell you are referring to is the cell mercury that is capable of almost 10 teraflops. The PS3 cell is only capable of 2 teraflops at 3.2 GHz and 1.8 teraflops at 2.8 GHz.

That won't prove anything. The games will prove what each system is capable of. And Jin, the ps3 has 2 long threads and each spe has a short thread going to the one core. And only 7 spe's are active. So 7 short threads go to the core and then 2 long threads come from the core. But there will be programs that get the most out of that structure. The 360 has 6 long threads. Carmack thinks its better for gaming. But we won't know till games come out utilizing the ps3's unique archatecture.

I think that with the ps3 costing 200 dollars more than the 360...it has a lot more to prove. If it equals or is less than games for the 360....it will have a hard time justifying the price differnce to Average Gamers. Sony Hard core fans justify it with the promis of future games and blu ray. But the average consumer wants to see NOW...what they paid 200 extra dollars for. Thats my only gripe with the ps3. I blame it on blu ray. But thats just me. If the devs utilize the ps3 to the max and the games are better than 360 games across the board. Then sony can justify the price difference to the average gamer. We will see. Yes I have my doubts. But I'm still waiting to pass judgment until I play it myself and see for myself.

That is why. When you use the cell in medical and data transfer systems is much more effective than in a game console. The separate this new tech. will be amazing in action in a hospital to transfer of share medical records from one sever to the next. The cell is a sever chip. The 360 uses the same chip archtecture as the Mac G5 the strongest home PC every made. The Mac G5 at its strongest uses a quad core but the 360 uses a tri core. The tech. Is current gen as chip architectures is concerned but still capable and powerful. The cell in the PS3 will not be the same Cell that scientist and tech. Gurus are referring too. I know it sounds like hate but it true go to ibm.com and do some research.

The cell in the PS3 will have 7 threads. I can tell you have done some research but you should be more clear. The cell has about 10 different ahetectures that will be in future use the cell in the PS3 will not be the one you are referring too. The cell you are referring to is the cell mercury that is capable of almost 10 teraflops. The PS3 cell is only capable of 2 teraflops at 3.2 GHz and 1.8 teraflops at 2.8 GHz.
