Xbox users already pay to play games online and if they started to charge a fee to play Call of Duty games online Xbox users would have 2 pay twice. (yea they could work it out so you dont have to have live but lets face it no one buys just CoD games to play online)

Ps3 users dont pay to play online so they would only have to pay the fee to play Call of Duty games.

Pirate i owned CoD4 on both Ps3 and X360 and their is really no difference in the online play (or any p2p online game), the only real difference was in the xbox version you could join peoples games and now you can do that on Mw2 on the ps3, you're just a fanboy thats why you THINK its a better service...I dont mind paying for live because 50$ a year isnt much to me but i know when it comes to online play for multiplatform games its the same experience and if there are any problems in either version they are usually fixed within a month of release and usually sooner than that.

I actually took the survey a few months back. Now at that time there was no mention to actually charge people to play online (although that could have changed). What was being asked about and tossed around was multiple "tiers". Paying a fee not to play the game but for extra stuff. Some of the options were:
"ability to play without having stats tracked so you could practice"
"ability to customize characters and weapons"
"ability to have playlists with more people"
"exclusive access to betas"
"early access to map packs"
"online stat tracking"
"clan matches and rankings"
Stuff like that, with multiple ways of charging whether it be monthly, yearly, or a one time fee. So more about talking features out and introducing new features only to paying members rather than charging for online play per se.

well I got MW2 on pc, never played cod4 on pc so I don't feel like I lost anything. But if the next Modern Warfare is monthly charge to play online, then they can go suck a big wang, I don't do monthly charge games.

Personally I want to see this happen. I finally want to see the Greedy people come out and start charging people for everything, so then People will finally Stand up and say " You know what F U I'm not going to pay prices like this anymore" and will finally stand up instead of continuing to get price gouged during a recession. Then you also have the PS3 & 360 which have much greater potential but everything they have to offer isn't being used & every single game is shipped with broken features that have to be patched because they don't properly test their titles anymore. In fact games are getting shorter & shorter and instead of them making them longer they are charging you for DLC that is probably already on the disc to extend your gameplay.

So you end up paying $60 for the game and up to $20-$30 for extra DLC and now they want to charge you a monthly fee on top of that. F U guys the gaming industry is turning out like everything else giving you less and charging more for it. Well I just won't do it!!! While I don't succumb to buying things used, instead what I do is wait quite a while and end up purchasing games when they have gone down in price. So I might buy a PS3 game when it goes down to $30 and then buy the DLC for it and it comes out to the original $60 or most of the time $40-$50. It is time we need to show them with our Wallets that we won't pay more for less.

Look it makes sense for Activision to start charging. As reports have suggested the xbox360 version of MW2 has been outselling the ps3 version at a 2:1 ratio, so near 70% of all their MW2 sales are on xbox360 and then there's the exclusive DLC they will gladly pay for.

We all know how xbox360 owners love to pay, and overpay. They pay 50$/yr for online, they re-buy consoles, they trade in consoles to upgrade to the 360 with the new "Falcon" or "Jasper" chip set in fear on getting RROD. They buy 2 consoles in case one breaks (I bet tons of those Walmart promo sales this past weekend were 360 owners buying a 2nd consoles for backup), they buy overpriced 100$ wifi adapters, they buy 150$ hard drives, 40$ 512 mb memory cards, etc etc. Microsoft r*pes and robs its fanbase blind and they always come back for more. Microsoft knows its fanbase.
Ps3 owners will not pay to play call of duty because we don't pay extra for anything. Everything was included with the system and online is free. But the xbox360 owners will gladly pay. I'm sure Activision and Microsoft have a deal behind this. Here is the conversation that probably went down:

Activision: Hey Microsoft, you guys are r*ping your fanbase blind with costs and broke systems and they still come back for more, can we get in on this?

Good, I'm glad this is happening. Maybe it will finally get people to boycott this bullsh*t game. Graphics were marginally updated, the campaign has a weak storyline as stated by many reviewers, and its 4-5 hrs long and still gets all these AAA scores? Um no, the online may be great but in order to get AAA scores all around you really should have an extremely solid ATLEAST 9 hr campaign.

For starters the game industry is a massive industry like all others and trying to grow further. While most of the N4G crowd see games as art the big company CEO see games as money. The fact that online play in the future will be charged monthly seems inevitable and utterly useless.

Warhawk launched an it was 40$ and it was explained by the dev as 20$ for the game and 20$ for multiplayer. I prefer to pay up front rather than be charged constantly for a game I may not be playing in a year. Also for those who will make the argument that you are paying for multiplayer even if you don't play it online I am not assuming that game prices will drop.

Also this same thing seems to be happening with DLC. I recall it being touted as a way to "keep games alive", "new content" that sure turned to s**t after devs started to make you pay to unlock stuff you already paid for and that's on the disc (i.e. Resident Evil 5).

Game companies want to push gamers towards consoles, that way no custom mods or anything can be made unless they include it in as "DLC" and charge you for it. Let's face it as more companies want to grow their bottom-lines be prepared to be nickel and dimed on everything I don't mind paying my fair share but too much is too much.

The gaming community will never band together to stop this stuff from happening. $60 pricing, Ads in games, and Micro-transactions show you that. Look at the whole Modern Warfare 2 PC fiasco, all the protest led to nothing and an Activision game becomes the fastest selling entertainment property in US history.

I love the Modern Warfare series but I will NOT pay to play an FPS. It is a great game, but does not have the content to justify a pay to play game. They think that they have a cash cow and can do anything they want and the players will still coming. Think again. Also, have they forgotten about the horrible economy?

Why did MW1 only have one map pack? That is a huge cash cow that was never utilized to its fullest. Look at World at War, 3 map packs and MW1 has been out much longer. I don't always think DLC is fair based on the price/content, but it is a way to keep games "new" and a way to make money.

While I accept World of Warcraft and other such paid for gaming services may work on consoles, I'm not sure anyone cares to pay to play Call of Duty. Or maybe this would be some large persistent war that would have thousands fighting the same battle.

i think they've been a bit blinded by how much cash WOW has made. You can't shoe horn the business model for MMORPGs into other genres, you are just going to p**s people off big time. The costs of running COD online are minimal in comparison.

The only thing Activision seem to be good at doing is taking great series, and bleeding them dry untill they are just shallow money spinners.
