BBFC: Dragon Age Origins Is Porn

zConnection's Connor Beaton writes: "Interesting story for you today, and I'm not so sure if it's down to something as simple as a simple error, or whether it's a full-blown censorship scandal. The character creator for the upcoming Dragon Age: Origins is now available via Steam, but unlike the full game's page, which boasts a large red "18" age certificate, the character creator's page is showing a square, blue "R18" certificate.

"For the uninformed, R18 is the official age rating for pornographic media in the United Kingdom, primarily used for "explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults". Works given an R18 certificate can only be distributed in licensed sex shops, so giving a game like this an R18 age certificate is pretty much the same as slapping a "porno" label on its front cover."

Darkstorn5292d ago

Wait till Fox News hears about this. Remember Mass Effect? Yeah...

MONOLITHICIDE5292d ago

not just fox but MSNBC, theyll be like doesnt any1 think of the children.

Darkstorn5292d ago

MSNBC doesn't tend to hate on video games. They reviewed Uncharted 2, remember? (they gave it 10/10)
Fox News doesn't review video games on national television. Neither does CNN, for that matter.

Highwayman5292d ago

I find MSNBC to be garbage. If I want news, I'll watch the NEWS.
If I want a game review, I go to IGN and other sites.

Dragon Age: Origins is not "porn" it's just like Mass Effect. You can't see anything.
Also, Dragon Age will be great!

Sanzee5292d ago (Edited 5292d ago )

Tits yes! Got it on Pre-Order too!

But if there's one thing that pisses me off, it's when wannabee gaming journalists submit their OWN articles, and start them off by saying "Connor Beaton writes"... like as if we all knew who he was. It just looks bad, ecspecially when he was the one who submitted. That same kid from PS3Center does it. "Nick McCandless from PS3Center writes..." God it's annoying. What really chaps my ass is the fact that this is actually a pretty good article. Well-written, good subject, nice description. Anyways, sorry for the rant, it just irriates the sh*t out of me. There are very few gaming journalists who can glorify themselves Connor, and at this point in time, you are not one of them. Until then, keep on truckin buddy.

FarEastOrient5292d ago

If that is porn than what have I been watching?

Connoro5291d ago

I write "Connor Beaton writes" because it's an N4G submission guideline. I unfortunately cannot quote directly from the article because then any instances of "I" or "We" are out of context. I have to either change all of those instances to "Connor" or "zConnection" (which is tedious) or simply preface the description with the aforementioned text.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if there were nudity.

It's the kind of game that has nudity...

Tex1175292d ago

The horror, The horror

That being said, Im really not one for sex in games if it doesn't add anything.

Like I care about polygonal "parts"

Im really hoping this game doesn't suck. Where are the reviews?

TwistedMetal5292d ago

im getting this game cant wait.

beardpapa5292d ago

Maybe cuz there's like a sex scene in there... supposedly.... but from what I remember in Mass Effect, there's probably no boobies. heh heh.

Connoro5291d ago

Maybe so, but the BBFC only gave Mass Effect an age rating of "12".

beardpapa5291d ago

Oh seriously? Ooo... this must mean more boobage in DAorigins. hah!

I can only imagine seeing youtube being flooded with vids of dwarves & elves getting it on in the game. yuck. hahaha

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion478d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad478d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90478d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183478d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90478d ago (Edited 478d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde478d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90477d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde477d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator478d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13478d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183477d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.
