Uncharted 2 doesn't spell bad news for the industry. ODST sales and Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders have shown that the AVERAGE consumer doesn't require games to push boundaries. All they want is FUN. If the MAJORITY of people judged games on the boundaries they pushed then Uncharted 2 would be the best selling video-game of all time.

Honestly, Uncharted 2 may influence SOME developers to up their game, but as a whole it won't, AT LEAST not in this generation with an expansion pack that doesn't do much new sells 2 million copies in one day.

I love this game. Certainly one of the best platformers I have ever played. Actually, it is THE best platformer I have ever played. While I agree most devs will still be mediocre, I don't think that UC2 actually does anything "new" either. It is just a well polished, WELL WRITTEN!!!, and tight controls that pull this game off.

Modern Warfare 2 is more like MW1.5. The first teaser trailer of Uncharted 2 was mind blowing. It was like what? 20 seconds long? I don't remember but it was the scene where Drake was trying to make his way out of a snow storm and fell on the ground. I was amazed when I saw the snow, the enviornment, the blizzard, the wind, physics looked awesome and as it turns out, Uncharted 2 has now been called by many people as GOTY. Now compare this to MW2's trailer that we have seen and I can easily say that as far as I am concerned, I am SO NOT interested in it. The graphics look the same to me with minor enhancement. Note that I said, MINOR. The gameplay looks the same as well.

See, apparently, Infinity Ward are following that "Don't fix what's not broken" rule but improving graphics is not going to break anything. Now, you add Fifty Cents in the game and that doesn't bloody make a sense to me!

U2 is your great action adventure flick. It has a great plot that is fairly straight forward as in like most action adventure movies. I do mean this though. U2 is on par with Raiders of the last ark in plot/story and humor. It is freaking amazing.

MGS4 on the other hand is equivalent to your epic drama/action movie with extremely deep character development with alot of history and complex plot/story which dabs alot into complex social and political issues of the mordern era.

In other words. They are completely different type of games that blurs the line between movies and games. However, the main difference is U2 is alot more accessible to the masses compare to MGS4.

It's funny, My niece likes to watch me play. When i played MGS4 she asked alot of questions and she was not that interested like i was in the long cutsscenes. I was glued to the tv and hanged on to every words that were said in those MGS4 custscenes because it was that good and important. When i played U2 she hardly asked any questions and she enjoyed it alot more because she understood it more.

Between the 2 games i still rate MGS4 higher because i appreciated the story more. I always knew this from the beginning before i played U2. U2 however is now my 4th best game ever. The only game that i see has a shot in dethroning MGS4 for me personally is TLG.

MGS4's cut scenes went on for ALOT longer than you remember. Some are over 30 minutes long. Uncharted 2 never had any that long from what I can remember.

You may have enjoyed the story. I can see why if you like that kind of stuff. But for the love of gawd, if you had little interest in Sci-Fi crap, or didn't have a firm grasp on the Metal Gear Solid story line, or both...then it sucks.

I have zero interest in sci-fi and I only played MGS1, MGS2, and MGS4. So you can see where I come down on this.

MGS4 is for the fans. You missed the most important which is MGS3. With MGS4 Kojima tied up all the lose ends that i know of a 20 year old franchise. Every custscenes were important to fully apperciate MGS.

There has been alot of debate on weather Kojima made the right decision with the long cutscense. However, without them it wouldn't have been MGS that fans know. Kojima didn't compromise on his vision and for that i am thankful for. I never remember a cutscene that was 30 min, well perhaps the ending but it never felt that long to me because they were that good to me. Yes as i said. MGS4 is not for everyone which is a shame because alot of people are missing out on great story because most expect games to be non stop action mainly catered for young people. Because of this. MGS4 is not a mature game...well it is a mature game for 18 year olds with all that very Japanese sci-fi melodrama crap. Uncharted 2 was Indiana Jones plain and simple. It was not the most mature story line, but it wasn't trying to be. The Gametrailers guys nailed it when he said while he was playing it he felt like he was 8 years old watching Indiana Jones for the first time. It never took itself too seriously and it showed. Agree'd to truly appreciate MGS4 you would have to play MGS 1, 2, and 3 lucky for me I've played every single Metal Gear game out there! (including the Ac!d series and Ghost Babel though I didn't play either of the cell phone games, I will admit that I have yet to finish the original MSX version of MG1 and MG2). Believe me the cutscenes are a lot better then the 20 min codec conversation at the end of MGS2.

Uncharted 2 is a step in the right direction that MGS4 helped set up. A cinematic experience.

Both these games play like movies but just like real movies there are diffrent types of movies made for diffrent people. The article compares uncharted 2 to an indiana jones movie, sticking to that comparison, comparing Uncharted 2 to MGS4 is like comparing a Lucas film to a Terintino. George Lucas films are normaly more animated and active, while the apeal of Terintino films, like that of kojima's games is their depth of detail and complexity of their stories. Picking between the two depends soley on personal prefrence.

Its not a new thing, if you sit and play ps3 exclusives like motorstorm, MGS4, Uncharted, killzone and then switch to something else its a massive quality divide I have a decent pc rig too for some multiplat games. True sony fans already know this.

KillZone 2 is in no way a good game in my opinion. I enjoyed the online when it first came out, but it took me like 2 months to drag myself through the campaign because it was just that bad.

The online was great when it first came out [When everyone was still leveling up] but after a few weeks when everyone started maxing out and unlocking their classes, the game turned into a spam fest, which is definitely not my type of game.

I'm happy with xbox360 games like most games if any on xbox360 don't get hyped to the max. On ps3 every game some how has to be hyped and which every developer likes to mention on ps3 (Can't be done on xbox360). Even the Wii doesn't hype their games only console on the market that loves Hyping is ps3 which is sad and maybe they think its the only way they might be able to crawl their way out of 3RD place by hype.

Where I'll never justify paying full price for multiplat games, if I really have to buy them, I'll wait for price drop.
After seeing Uncharted 2 in my Samsung HDTV with my own eyes, I can't go back to mediocre games anymore, well not buying them right away anyway. So in a way, this article does have a valid point. Multiplat devs won't easily have my money and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

Thought he was referring to the fact that Uncharted 2 has a beautiful single player experience and the MP is god awful! Talk about annoying w/ no map depth at all. You have 2 types of kills, Melee or Grenade. Let's not get started on the Pistole that drops you w/ 2 shots. Just punch and shoot and the opponent goes down. Horrible experience online, but played through single player twice. Great game.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement.
While I enjoyed MGS 4 very much
i found it a drag to play through again because there are so many lengthy cutscenes.
Some of them are still spectacular even after repeated viewings but some scenes can feel tagged on on consequent viewings.

However in Uncharted 2 the gamplay and cinematics blend in so seamlessly together.
It never feels tagged on.

Not to mention there are no loading screens in Uncharted!!!

For a long while people, especially on here ranted on about low PS3 game sales. did any of you ever think that there might be many people out there who in the past refused to buy a multi platform game that was a shoddy port.

What person in there right mind would waste their money. Now games like Uncharted 2 show that PS3 games can look absolutely stunning and have all the rest to boot.

So people will expect more. Even on multi plat games. After all the excuse for learning the cell has to be mute now. they all should know what there doing. If they are worth the money they want paying for the job they should be anyway.

I rented Uncharted 2 from Gamefly. After the first couple hours of playing it I went and purchased it from them. Knowing that Gamefly would then buy another copy to put into the rental inventory. I like to support good games whenever I can. This game is AAA all the way and coming from a 360/PS3/Wii owner to boot.

I'm not discrediting Naughty Dog's talent but this is what happens when you have fierce competition. You get quality. That's why it's good Microshaft is in the console market. Credit goes mostly to the developer and not the console, don't get me wrong, I love my PS3, but the game would have been just as good as a 360 exclusive, granted maybe less graphically impressive, but still extremely good. Good job Naughty Dog.
