Kameo 2 Was in Development: Cancelled in Late 2007

Split-Screen: "On June 8th 2008, Rare senior software engineer Nick Burton stated that Kameo: Elements of Power (and Perfect Dark Zero, another Rare title exclusive to XBox 360) had "made a lot of money" for the company in a profession where, "If you break even you're lucky, you're in the minority. Now, it's come to light that Kameo was indeed due for a sequel, but was cancelled in late 2007. This happened nearly 2 years after the release of the original."

WHY DOES MS ALWAYS CANCEL THE COOLEST NEW RARE GAMES????? first conker 2 and now this... why did you even bother buying them if all you wanted was viva pinata and banjo kazooie?

Nike5298d ago (Edited 5298d ago )

Don't forget Perfect Dark: Zero and Grabbed by the Ghoulies. It's sad, but Rare was at a time one of the most forward-thinking and fun developers out there. And if Kameo 2 looked this intriguing, I'd definitely be hyped about it. Regardless, since it was cancelled about 2 years ago, this just must be another foot note in MS's production diary - along with the closures of FASA and Digital Anvil.

dgroundwater5298d ago

I always hoped a new Perfect Dark would come around myself.

Megaton5298d ago (Edited 5298d ago )

It's sad what has happened to Rare under Microsoft's acquisition. They're a mere shadow of their former self from the Nintendo days.

whothedog5298d ago (Edited 5298d ago )

I loved RARE on 64 and SNES and NES

almost forgot

Xbox Avatars Shoe5298d ago (Edited 5298d ago )

Rare should have stayed their own company so M$ would have paid them $50 million to make Banjo Kazooie a 360 exclusive. Instead, now they've turned into garbage thanks to M$ control.

Dark_Vendetta5298d ago

FU*K YOU MS!!
I've been so long waiting for a sequel because I LOVED the first one. It's the best RARE game this gen followed by Viva Pinata, and now MS cancels it, most probably because of Avatar or any Natal sh*t. Once again F*CK YOU!!

I liked Kameo, it wasn't a great, but it was a good start.

EDIT:Rare going to MS was its worst move it could take. Should have stayed at Nintendo.

Saaking5298d ago

ms always holding devs back

Defectiv3_Detectiv35298d ago

Yeah, rare hasn't been the same since 1/2 the devs left to form the now defunct free radical. And if you ask me, those devs seemed like the more confident ones, Free Radical was repsonsible for bringing us Timesplitters, and I'm sure they were the one's repsonsible for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark back in the N64 days.

But honestly, I don't think Rare has made a good game since the N64, what have they really contributed to Xbox?

KingKionic 5298d ago

Wonder what rare is making now .

KingKionic 5298d ago

Other then Natal stuff ....and avatar stuff .

Carl14125298d ago

Probably nothing.

MS seems to like dumping crap on Rare. Honestly they should have stayed with Nintendo

Redempteur5298d ago

2 games cancelled and during that time , they killed banjoo ( in my eyes )

made avatars ..

congrats ...

BYE5298d ago

Natal stuff? So basically, nothing for gamers.

Kameo: Elements of Power - An Undercooked Launch Title Ready for a Comeback

Kameo: Elements of Power arrived as an Xbox 360 launch title. It didn't reinvent the wheel, but deserves more respect than you might think.

Jin_Sakai651d ago

I remember playing this game and really enjoyed it. I’d love for a comeback!

Lightning77651d ago

There was a sequel in the works but got canceled because of the Kinect......

I doubt we'll see a follow up.

MadLad651d ago (Edited 651d ago )

Wasn't a fan.
I give it another try every few years, but it always falls flat for me.

ZeekQuattro651d ago

I remember following this game when it was a N64/GCN game. By the time it came out I didn't even care anymore. It spanned 4 consoles by the time it finally released. It was ridiculous. lol

Looking Back to 2005 and the Elemental Good Times of Kameo: Elements of Power

Paul writes: "Come with me down memory lane while I cast my mind back to a time when the world was a much shinier, much more hopeful place than the one we see today, with the elemental good times of Kameo: Elements of Power."

I remember when they showed off some of the original footage when this was being developed for the GameCube... before Rare went to Microsoft and then delayed for development and launch on the 360. You had to catch the beasts, looked great. Enjoyed it very much when it launched.

Five Franchises Rare Should Bring Back Not Called Banjo-Kazooie

Alex S. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Rare if you’re listening we have so ideas of some other classic titles in your portfolio that would be great to be brought back and none of them are called Banjo-Kazooie."

I think the real issue is that the minds that made those games special are nowhere around. When it’s a series that gets new versions regularly like a COD, Forza, Gears, or Halo you can’t really feel the effects so much of teams changing although I’m sure they do, and all the time. Part of that original vision can live on through some of those team members that remain. In these LONG dormant games they have a far greater chance of ruining the memory of these games and the feel they have us than recapturing it. I think that’s also why Rare hasn’t had a hit since they left Nintendo. Rare should be left to their own vices to make a find a identity and make a new IP. ONLY time I saw a whole new team knock it out the park is the new God of War. Corey killed that.

Saranya1276d ago

It's unfortunately that Kameo 2 was canceled by Don Mattrick.

rlow11276d ago

Interesting list, I never heard of the gameboy game they had talked about. But I would still like new IPs this gen.

Tra-D2141276d ago

A new Perfect Dark would do

jambola1276d ago

or they could not tarnish other franchises
