Infinity Ward: Console Wars Make Us Angry

NowGamer: Speaking frankly in an exclusive interview with NowGamer, Infinity Ward's creative strategist and all-round good egg, Robert Bowling confessed this week that nothing makes him more mad than petty console feuds.

Speaking in relation to the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 community, he said "I'm pretty vocal. I'm a gamer and I speak with them a lot whether via twitter or the forums and I'm not afraid to let them know when they're just being ridiculous."

Sure it's prolly a financial deal but qwhen you don't treat the platforms equally the reason doesn't matter only the resuling fact that you do favour one side and that leaves you in no position to comment on the futility of the console wars you helped propagate.

Add to that the comments this guy makes about the PS and Sony and the situation looks really murky, doesn't it? Why's he saying this if he hates Sony as much as he does? Also, I don't buy the IW as helpless pawns in all the Activision raising the price of MW2 in the EU eithe-they could have distanced themselves from that move at any timebut CHOSE not to. Why couldn't they? Would Acti drop their cash cow devs? Not a chance and IF IW did throw some weight behind this being unfair then my guess is that it might well change it pretty quickly.

You realize that Infinity Ward has absolutely no say in any of the exclusive content or anything like that, right? They are just a developer. Those decisions are made completely by the publisher, in this case being Activision, the most money hungry video game company around. They make Microsoft look like a saint. All Microsoft does is dangle a $1 bill on a fishing line in front of Bobby Kotick and he'll sign anything Microsoft asks for.

I'm glad Infinity Ward are publicly expressing their disdain for the console war stuff even though their hands are tied. They know they can get away with saying pretty much anything they want without outright saying "we hate Activision" and they know they will never be dropped, but honestly I wish they were and found a new publisher who didn't decide to charge ridiculous amounts of money for their games, and maybe then I would actually buy an Infinity Ward game. Sadly, Activision controls what Infinity Ward does, not Infinity Ward. Timed map packs and Beta's on one console are not their decision. The 5 dollar increase in price for the game is also Activision's decision, not Infinity Ward.

Lets hope this is true because COD4 (Infinity Ward) and COD:WaW (Treyarch) have had lower resolution textures on the PlayStation 3. But I am sure that they have spent the extra time on this AAA title to ensure they are equals.

I grew up on PS1 and PS2, and when I played a FPS on the 360 controller, I fell in love. Not saying the PS3 controller is bad in any way, shape, or form, but the 360 feels more natural for FPS. For RPG's, action, etc games, the PS3 controller feels identical to the 360 controller in my honest opinion. In regards to the game, it will run identical.

The main concern of any profit based business is the generation of income, money!
If Microsoft pay ActiVision X million dollars for timed exclusive content, why should Activision or even Infinity Ward apologise for this transaction? They are making more money.
They weighed the risks and concluded that the profit generated from said transaction more than outweighs the possible backlash from ''angry SONY fans'' who will boycott *cough* yeah right *cough* the game just because they won't get additional content at the same time as their X360 counterparts.

402 claiming the the console versions of Modern Warfare were identical is laughable. On the 360 version of MW every public online match is preceded by a pre-match host selection where the player with the strongest signal is chosen as the match host. On the PS3 version there is no pre-match host selection, the first man in the lobby is always the host, no matter how poor his signal strength. This relatively small difference means the PS3 version of the game suffers from a drastically more lag issues online than the 360 version. They are not equal! When 402 revealed he would answer questions posed to him via twitter i immediately asked if the PS3 version on MW2 would have pre match host selection, the answer i got was silence. Obviously 402 couldn't lower himself to answer the legitimate concerns of a lowly PS3 owner. He can lick my sack.

How difficult is it to understand that an online match hosted by a person with a good internet connection will be less laggy than a match hosted by somebody paying $19.99 a month for their bottom of the barrel connection? I pay $100 dollars a month for my 20Mbps down/10Mbps up signal and still have to deal with laggy matches on MW due to a crappy host connection and the fact that IW favors developing for 360 (because its much less challenging to develop for older, out of date hardware) and included a pre-match host selection only on that console.

Infinity Ward will always have my respect. Why, you ask? Simple, because around the time gaming journalist were touting how the multiplatform games always looked better on the 360. Infinity Ward put that whole theory to rest, when they developed both 360 and ps3 version in-house. Both versions were completely identical, and showed that it was the developers not the hardware. Instead of being lazy and having to hand-me-down studio port it, they put in the time to actually learn the system.

Robert Bowling I'm sure alot of effort goes into creating the game the same on both platforms. If SONY came a year earlier, there would only be one platform the PS3..(wii does not count). Why do you think the 360 was rushed out, doh. without proper testing.

Day one 360 version. I have both consoles and I've played COD 4 on both consoles, and I prefer the controller for 360 for FPS. Not to mention that I have a long list or friends that I'll be playing it with on 360.

he also said that the PS3 was more prone to lag.
e.g 2 bars on the 360 is still playable but on the PS3 it isnt.

COD4 is incredible online. I generally play it more on the ps3 just becuase its what my friends have but Ive played the 360 version loads too.

And both versions are virtualy lagless. Its incredible.

what that article was about. What you say is as if theyve done something to annoy the 360. But chances are your just misinformed with that statement. Just think a minute.

1)Why would a game dev want to annoy over half of its buyers???

2) At the time COD4 came out devs everywhere were struggling with the ps3. IW probably needed the best ps3 devs they could get their hands on to make sure that they could utilise the ps3 enough to make it play as good as the 360 version.

Thats all. its just that at that time devs were struggling with the ps3. They needed good devs to help and to teach them.

And it obviously woked, becuase Ive played both versions a ton and Ive never noticed a single difference between both versions.

At the time there was some bad ports and i could imagine some other companys having their best devs working on the PS3 port too ,but im pretty sure none of them would admit to this like IW did.
