not systems. I think the delineation between who is and who isn't a fanboy is whether you go out of your way to disparage another system, it's games, or the people that buy it. Simply preferring one system over another does not, imo, make one a fanboy. But hating another system (especially when you don't own it) seems like the prereq.

Fanboys are funny to me. If I were a "Sony fanboy" which means I would hate the 360, I would've missed out on some really fun/great moments in some amazing games. Disagree all you want but attempting to clear Horde mode in Gears 2 or lol'ing as I left someone behind in L4D was just memorable. I think it goes the other way for anti-Sony fanboys and games like Uncharted, Killzone, Metal Gear, etc.

I hate some of MS business practices but I don't hate the 360. In fact, I would love to own one to enjoy some of those great exclusives.

Some of the biggest fanboys were the ones that owned both systems and worked in the gaming media. owning both systems is a veil of security that I think many fanboys hide behind. Owning both systems doesn't mean your not a fanboy; it simply shows you have a good amount of disposable income.

It doesn't matter that adults own both systems. Maturity has no correlation to age, but I see more immaturity in gamers than anything else. There is not a single other industry where people cry like little b1tches about something so minuscule as a simple hobby or past-time.

I love my AudiRS4, many BMW drivers would say their BMW is the better car, but people don't sit and argue all day long about it like these immature fanboys do of videogame consoles. Seriously some of these people defend their system as though it were their god and it's really quite pathetic. All I'm saying is that the argument is futile. If you don't like the other system, don't buy it, don't talk about it, and don't think about it, unless of course you have too much time on your hands, which these fanboys obviously do.

There is nothing wrong with being a fanboy, because no one can avoid the label. If you say something nice about a console, you're a fanboy. If you say something negative about a console, you're a fanboy. Everyone is a fanboy because there will always be someone who disagrees with you and calls you a fanboy.

Seriously, I have had people call me out for being a PS3 fanboy on rare occasions. And plenty of people on this site know that not the case. I mean, it never happens HERE because this site is practically owned by PS3 fanboys, but it has happened.

I could care less. Some people are more obsessed than their are fanboys. And that's where things are different. Fanboys are loyal to a console but don't belittle other consoles to the point of hatred - it's just personal preference, I'd say. Where obsessed folks are clearly sided with one console, damning the rest, and constantly promoting flame wars in order to hype up or defend their console of choice using whatever means they can (i.e. insults, incorrect facts, etc.) These are the people who get offended when they read comments like this.

Fanboys, as annoying as some can be, make things interesting from a competitive standpoint for companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. Realistically, it's like small factions for each company where fans keep the momentum of competition going. It's because of these very fanboys that consoles have become so successful during the last decades. Hate 'em or love 'em, they are somewhat needed in the industry to keep things interesting.

I disagree, there is a vast difference between fans of a platform and a fanboy. A fanboy will not allow, will not accept that another platform may have something better or on a par with their console. They see only their platform and everything else is crap.

A fan on the other hand appreciates his platform and can accept that another platform has equal or greater exclusives.

Fanboys are the detriment of gaming as a community and as a culture, this place, could be a haven where all gamers come together to discuss and appreciate all games, but what do we see?

I agree. Nothing wrong with having a preference and voicing it. Some people aren't able to communicate effectively and get frustrated when their message is misinterpreted or misunderstood, therefore earning the label of fanboy.

The only thing that pi$$es me off is wehn journalists (by that I mean gaming media) are paid to have a "preference". I still remember that 9 page interview with Peter Moore after he left Microsoft, where he openly discusses the FUD tactics they were using to market the original Xbox.

I 100% agree. Everyone here has a preference. If you say you're 100% don't...well, you're not kidding anyone. Having preferences and acknowledging the strenghts and enjoyability of the other systems is cool in my book. In my case, I own a PS3 and a wii. But I play my cousin's 360 more than my wii. However, when I play with my wii (I know, it sounded weird), I have a helluva a fun time (I know, it probably sounds worse). I think the closest (atleast on N4G) to objectivity at the time only had a 360 (he has both a 360 and PS3), but he was and still is an excellent commentator (immortalkain). Which brings me to my next point. I think the worse of the bunch are those are owners of both 360/PS3. Not everyone does this and I respect those who enjoy their systems but they bash the other side and yet justify their bashing by saying "Oh I have the system, so I can say [enter fanboyish comment here]). Plus I have the pic to prove it".

To me, the media perpetuate this whole fanboy crap. I mean, everyone of these single so-called Journalist have preferences but some are just so pathetic, it's laughable. Take Kotaku's Luke Plunkett, sarcastic gamer's Lono, that Landis fella from [irrelevant website].com and of course the quissential fanboy himself, the honorary monocle wearing fool, Jim Sterling. These guys are the fuel to the war (In this case, Jim is the nuclear energy) and it's pathetic. I truly think most of the people who make the videogames go round are just gamers.

Well, it certainly wouldn't be the N4G the way it is now, but I personally think that it would be a far better place. Ahh, you do have a very good point there, but there is a place for sites that are completely fanboy neutral and for the first site to do this, the gamers who do wish to discuss games will congregate there:and they will continue to go back.

Take giantbomb for instance I've rarely seen fanboy 'disagreements' in the comments section and the forums remain very respectful, it's still got a fair bit of work to do, but it's getting there, not to mention amongst the best video/podcast content out there.

I don't think either side has more truth than the other side in what they believe. The problem has more to do with slander and trying to downplay everything else.

PS3 fanboys in particular have a very bad complex of believing that PS3 is a better console, and they're so preoccupied with trying to convert other people to that same belief.

It sounds almost religious, right? Well then my policy on that applies here too: don't shove your beliefs down my throat. But I also have a 360 for some exclusive games from MS. I buy multiplatform games for my ps3 and not my 360 because I like collecting trophies for my collection. But games like Forza 3 and SC: Conviction are games that I want to play so owning a 360 is the way I get to play those games.

But if I could only own one console it would be a ps3 and it's because of the games sony has like uncharted, ratchet and clank, Gran Turismo , God of War, Killzone, Wipeout, and so many others that are only coming to the ps3.

I am an anti-Sony fanboy. Sony cost me money with the DRE problem on the PS2 and their 90 day warranty(PS2 slim had 1 year). Microsoft fixed my RRoD for free, twice under a 3 year warranty. There are games I would like to play on PS3, but I will not support a company whose "customer support" laughed at me when my PS2 got DRE after 5 months, twice! When Microsoft screws me out of money, I will hate them too. I guess that actually makes me a money fanboy!

There were two things that made Jim's article not worthy to me:

1. He used the term "Sony Defense Force" to describe them, as if he was Rob Foor or some sh!t. That REALLY pissed me off.

Lets get one thing straight, the Ps3 fanboy is the guy who BLINDLY says that the Ps3 is perfect, he truly believes it. The Ps3 fan on the other hand, is the guy who would love to see his big black beautiful machine do even better than it currently(back then) is.
