David Wenham as Arthas in Warcraft The Movie?

A strong rumor is going around the net that David Wenham might play the role of Prince Arthas Menethil in the upcoming Warcraft The Movie to be directed by Sam Raimi.

Though Blizzard Entertainment originally said the movie wouldn't feature Arthas, this was said back on 2007 at Blizzcon when Gary Whitta was secretly the script writer.

With Gary Whitta out of the picture and his script scrapped, I don't doubt Arthas would be in the new script. However, It is unknown if Wenham will be the actor to characterize him.

He doesn't look too bad for the role, what do you think?

i dunno arthas seems wimpy to me; he is nowhere near as badass as the dwarfs he traveled with(i think the bronzebeards its been awhile).

You know I think you might be onto something.... I second the motion for Jason Isaacs. He was really great as Lucious Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies; his combination of calm/collected and malicious was really great.

I really don't know what to think of this thing yet. Blizzard are good with games, but will the quality carry over to the movie? Will they be able to rise above the standard video game movie?

The movie's slated to be set between Warcraft 3 and WoW, right? I'd love to see the fall of Arthas in cinematic form, though this would presumably only have the Lich King. Not convinced that I could believe Wenham as the Lich King off the bat, but I reckon he could do the fall quite well.

Hmm. I guess I'm... happy about the possible casting, but only if we see the young prince, too. I don't think Wenham would be convincing as the Lich King without seeing his fall from grace first.

david wenham is a champ, i'm sure he'd do a great job, alot of actors only get cast in "good", or "bad" roles, but i think he could pull off the bad role nicely

I think he would do really well as Arthas but it depends on when the movie is set.
When comparing LOTR as movies to the books they are terrible. One of the few glimmering performances that were as good as the books was David Wenhams performance as Faramir. He really portrayed the conflict within Faramir that defines as a character in the books. A similar conflict which appears in Arthas before he takes Frostmourne.
If the movie is set before Arthas takes Frostmourne and becomes a Death knight/Lich King then i think they really couldn't have found a better actor to play the role and do the games and lore justice.

...but definitely far from good. People who've never heard about the Warcraft storyline would say, "Oh look, a 4th LOTR movie, it even has Faramir starring in it..." Screw that, as much as i love the trilogy, i don't want another LOTR-ish movie. I want a fresh new theme that is worthy of donning the name 'Warcraft', and not something that 'looks just like LOTR'.
