I Want A Good Single Player Campaign In My Shooter… Please?

NextGN writes: "With the arrival of the next generation consoles, I have seen the rise of a strong multiplayer component within FPS games. Nowadays a good shooter is mostly judged by how strong and addictive its Multiplayer is and the whole single player experience has taken a back seat for good."

Too many ADHD gamers this generation who don't give a damn about a good single-player experience. It's a shame considering how much of a centralized component the single-player storyline was in games even just last-generation. Now it's pretty much an afterthought, which is sad.

Agree...

I buy a game firstly for it's single player mode, not for multiplayer.

thereapersson5408d ago

It also makes me mad when games that have such a solid single-player experience, end up getting a tacked-on multiplayer mode that doesn't make any sense to be there. Granted, when developers get it right, it's a nice bonus. But simply adding multiplayer for a sequel, for example, because it will attract more consumers just isn't right.

The Darkness was one of those games. Great single player but the MP was beyond bad.

thereapersson5408d ago

Yeah, the Darkness was one of the games I had in mind. The multiplayer was so bad, I traded the game in after I beat the single player storyline.

uncharted?

oh well.. they are all PS3 exclusive games.

DARK WITNESS5408d ago (Edited 5408d ago )

i don't think its about if they are xbox or ps3 exclusives or not.

Uncharted had a great single player, but no multiplayer so it does not really fall inline with the games he is talking about.

Killzone 2, i am sorry its just my opinion, but there was nothing special about the single player other then its visual achievements. Yes it's just about the best looking game too date, but other then that i found it very average.

Resistance ( i can't speak for the 1st because i didn't play it, i tried the demo and knew it was not something i was going to enjoy ) going by resistance 2, well i don't even know where to start. i thought it was bad, very bad... i finished it, played a little of the multiplayer and took it straight back to the shop. both resistance 2 and gears 2 were biggest disappointments of 2008 for me personally. I could go on all day about why i thought it was so bad, but i know there is not much point... its my opinion anyway.

I do agree with the article though and i have always said it, i always judge the games i like the most based on the single player experience.

My No 1 fps of all time is still Halo CE and that's not because of the multiplayer but because of the campaign. On the other hand i was very disappointed with halo 2 and 3 because the campaign didn't meet my expectations compared to halo CE.

my best game last year was Dead Space, no multiplayer ! I know it sounds odd but i just about refuse to buy any game that is multi only with no campaign, while i am quite happy to buy a game that is campaign only with no multiplayer.

godmoney5408d ago

He mentioned Gears of War and Bioshock too

godmoney5408d ago

+ =I played over 20 hours in Killzone 2 and never bothered finishing the single player. Only multiplayer.

DARK WITNESS5408d ago

@ godmoney

me too, i got to the last stage of killzone 2, but just could not bring myself to finish it... its gone back to the shops now for a credit note.

resistance 2 i did finish and i have no idea how i managed too.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.

Infamous Video Game Endings That Left a Bad Taste

The most disappointing and infamous video game endings even sour the overall thoughts of a game. Most of these titles represent some of the finest entries in their respective series, marred by an ending we can't quite forgive.

Far Cry 5....bullshit. This game had a great ending imo.

MrNinosan14d ago

There is no game called Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, but Rebirth had a great ending imo. Felt robbed by the ending at first, but the more I've seen it and during my 3rd playthrough, I started to understand and realize a lot more that make me appreciate the ending.

Nerdmaster14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I was enjoying FFVII Remake, even though those whispers throughout the game were annoying. But the ending was so bad that I don't even want to play Rebirth. On top of that, from what I saw on reviews, the ending of Rebirth is even worse.

Also, I'm glad to see Zero Time Dilemma being recognized as the trainwreck it is. After the amazing two first games (especially the near perfect second one), the low quality of the trilogy end is baffling. The new characters are bad, the old characters don't feel like themselves, a surprise "alien technology" pops out of nowhere, the big twist was like "eh?", and it doesn't really finish the story nor explains the loose threads from the second game.

Far Cry Villains To Appear In A New Comic

This is interesting news for comic and Far Cry fans as something new in the universe for the game is always welcome. Villains from popular Far Cry games are transported into prehistoric times by the priestess Batari, who has pulled them from their lives before they've committed their most heinous crimes.

"Villains from popular Far Cry games are transported into prehistoric times by the priestess Batari"

Why do they make every f****** thing goofier and goofier

Watch Dogs become whacky, Assassins Creed jumped the shark, Ghost Recon become less serious now this

Garethvk17d ago

I think it is the trend. They look around and say ok; what can be done that will not infringe upon the next game and this is what happens. I heard rumors of the next Far Cry offering may be in Alaska and there was also an Online offering coming. So we get this to tide us over.
